Question 1

I can't figure out how the stop works. There are no instructions. I would love is someone could help me with this. Thanks!

you just place it in the middle (i know it moves), and then when you put the dog's nail in there, it can only go so far and not passed that point....the first and only time i used it, i was still hesitant, so really i just cut a little bit of the nail off, not knowing if the 'stop' would be too far or not.....i think if it's your first time, you must determine how long the nail is, and if you put the dogs nail in there and you think the 'stop' is too close to the point where you're gonna hurt the dog, you pull back.....i think the 'stop' will work only if the nails are really long.....but i totally agree that there should be some instructions for us novices......hope this helps.........good luck!

I have a 35 lb. dog.  Do I get the sm/med. or large clippers?

I use the small for my 11 lb doggie and the large for my 60lb doggie. I would think you are in the medium category.  Hope that helps :)

do these have a 'stop' so you don't cut too short

Yes they do have a stop and they work GREAT!  Just used them for the first time this past Saturday on "my owner" and he did not even flinch.  Was very nervous because another product that I purchased, cheaply made (bought) would flex, not cut properly and required more hand strength, which then made the product flex even more.  This set did NOT flex, made a clean cut with less effort and no pain or yelps from the recipient of the "pawdicure".   Recommend this set HIGHLY as well as the vendor.ese worked as they should on my roughly 75 to 80 lb "owner".

Question 4

I bought what was listed as "small/medium" for my medium (40lb) poodle, but what arrived says "small." Should I get the "large" instead?

Small and medium are relative. I had wolfhounds. I then adopted a dog who was listed as a large hound. He was about 55 lbs. and could walk beneath the wolfhound's belly.  I would have described him as a small hound.  Anyway if those clippers are the same size I have (the pkg. has been thrown out) they are fine for my 50ish pound hounds.  So should be fine for your poodle.
