I used a pair of 40# hinges. They are very stiff and hard to open. Dry lubricant did not help. Any solutions?

There is no adjustment on particular hinges. They are made with several options of stiffness and you need to determine how heavy your lid is…measured in foot-pounds. There is a simple formula. The #15 and #30 are for lighter lids. #60 is real hefty and difficult to open by hand.

What is the word thickness that fits over

3/4 inch thick. Not 3/4 plywood because it is 1/32 thinner, or 23/32

how do you know what size hinge to use?

I had no idea so I got two of the 40 inch pound for use on a toy chest. I think a single one would,have been plenty as the two make it difficult for the kid to close. I would have put one in the middle and used regular hinges on the sides of it and saved $$&.

Does the jig come with the 2 pack hinges or do you have to buy it separate?

No. the Rocklers I bought did not come with a jig. I think an average to good woodworker could do without.By the way, I have 2 15inch-pounders for sale.
