Great product
Perfect to refresh our advertising boards. Feels like regular chalk board. Cleans up nicely with a matte finish. No strong odor. Holds up if dried properly with the liquid chalk markers.

Easy chalk board DIY
Super easy to use. I did two coats to have more of a bold look. It was a bare area in the kitchen and hated it. This was a win win for me and the kids. We love it! Was cheaper than buying a chalk board too!! :)

Works like it should, but kind of expensive
Why is chalkboard paint so expensive? $1 per ounce is a bit pricey and why we gave it only 4 stars. It is essentially just black acryllic paint. It says so right on the jar. I would bet you couldn't tell the difference between this paint and normal black acryllic paint. Anyway, this small jar actually went further than we thought it would. We did a coffee table project 50" by 16" and we still have almost half the jar left. We followed the instructions to the T, using one light coat at first, then a heavy second coat. The end result looks like a chalkboard. You can easily write on it just like a chalkboard. The main thing with this chalkboard piant, or any paint is: The key to a great looking finished product is the type of surface you start with, and how smooth it is. Any imperfections will me magnified once painted with black paint. (See pictures). If you're working with a wood surface, sand it as smooth as you possibly can, if you want a clean looking smooth chalkboard finish. Also an unpainted or unsealed wood surface will absorb more of the chalkboard paint, and will require more paint to completely cover. Maybe try sanding perfectly smooth, then painting with a cheaper paint, before applying the chalkboard paint. Whatever you decide, this paint will definitely transform your surface in to a chalkboard like surface, but probably no more than any black acryllic paint. The key is to condition the surface with chalk, once the paint has cured.

beautiful finish, easy
3/25 initial review, before & after. i sanded the table slightly before, not perfect in anyway so it’s not smooth. i painted 3 coats with a roller, letting it dry about an hour in between. beautiful finish, self smoothing! i did a write & erase test a few hours later and it scratched slightly. quick research says to let it cure for 3 days and then season it & wipe. will update in a few days when cured

Worked as advertised- easy to clean!
I painted a small rectangle on my painted drywall in my basement for a foosball scoreboard. I used a foam brush and did three coats (2 hrs apart) and I could still see the walk color coming through. I switched to a 2inch paint brush and did two more coats (2 hrs apart). I waited 24 hours and then conditioned with chalk (rubbed a piece of crayola white all over and wiped with a paper towel) and it’s a dream! Worked perfectly! I’m able to write on it and wipe off with no issue. My 12x24 rectangle took about a 1/3 of the jar with all the coats. It’s exactly what was advertised and works perfectly. I think I might have needed fewer coats had I used a regular brush from the beginning but can’t be sure. Highly recommend!

Mixed results and zero customer support
I bought enough to do a 4 foot square chalkboard for my grandkids, but decided to do an 8"x10" test first. About 5 days ago, I primed a piece of wood, then painted 2 coats according to the directions on the bottle. The following day, I covered it with chalk, then wiped it off and tried to write on and erase and write again. It worked well and I was very pleased. Today, I tried to wipe it down with a damp paper towel and found black paint had come off the board and on to the towel. I went to the FolkArt website where it gave [email protected] as the email contact address. I've tried twice to email, asking if the paint needs to cure longer or what. Both times, it got bounced back "because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail." I'm annoyed at the lack of customer support and am hoping that, in time, the paint will cure enough to be wiped down with a damp cloth once in a while.

Awesome - Couldn't Be Happier!
After reading all of the positive reviews I went ahead and made the purchase and am incredibly pleased with the results. Do not be fooled by the price - this stuff is great! As advised, I sanded the area of the wall I where I was going to apply the paint beforehand to make the surface as even as possible. I didn't go crazy - just manually rubbed one coarse and one less coarse 1/2 sheets of sand paper across the wall just made sure it was smooth enough to run my hand along without feeling any obvious roughness. I was a bit concerned that the first coat still left some visible signs of the white wall but this was no longer the case after the 2nd coat. Since the area I was painting wasn't very large (54" x 22") I went ahead and applied 4 coats total with probably enough for a 5th that I opted not to do because it seemed unnecessary. As mentioned in one review - it does have a very slight glossiness to it (which I wanted) so please be advised if you are looking for something that has a slate/matte finish this may not the product for you. After applying the 4 coats I let it "cure" for just about 24 hours and did a test without conditioning it (rubbing chalk over the entire area) just to see how well it worked without it as I was feeling kinda lazy. Lol. And much to my delight it exceeded all of my expectations - could it be this good for 7 bucks!? Both writing and erasing with a dry cloth was a TOTAL PINCH! Yay - I couldn't be happier. I love it when this happens! Best of luck!

no priming and it went on fine. I was able to do 2 coats on ...
I used this to cover up a white board that was badly weathered and would no longer erase due to being outdoors for 6-7 years. I wasn't sure this would work, but I figured it was worth the money to try a cheap fix versus replacing the board. I sanded and washed the whiteboard first, then painted with this, no priming and it went on fine. I was able to do 2 coats on the board measuring approximately 6'x4'. About a month later it is looking good and working great. I may buy more to do another coat, but this is a great product, very impressed.

Good product, but quite expensive
The paint is of a good quality and dries quite fast. I used it on a wooden surface painted with Duco, and it is working quite well on that. I applied 2 coats of paint, a few hours apart and let it dry for half a day. Then rubbed chalk all over to condition it, and began using as a chalkboard. Just do not use sharp edges on it because the paint can peel off if you do that. However I would consider it quite pricey, and I hope similar cheaper alternatives are available locally in India soon. Smooth application.
Went on well. Haven't tried writing on it yet in chalk (as was covering over a black chalkboard) but was easy to apply and quick drying.
