Temptation's Darling

I love you Johanna. But not this book.
Johanna, how I have loved you. But this book was very disappointing. Sometimes, I wondered if you even wrote it. The sexual tension that you excel at was missing. The hero was not alpha. The plot was silly. I thought the mother was selfish. The love scenes were mailed in. It lacked the Regency flavor - felt like a contemporary novel at times. The magic wasn’t there for me.That being said, I will always love your wonderful books. Especially the Mallorys.

No my favorite JL book
This was rather slow and boring...none of the usual angst or drama. Skipped a lot of pages to get to the point... So disappointing to anticipate a new release by a fav author and pay full price to have just an ok read.

I Usually Love a Lindsey
But this one? Eh, not so much. The characters were just okay. Usually they are vividly drawn, deep (for romance novels) and have stories that draw you in and ensure you don’t put the book down. I kept waiting for something more and it never came.

Snooze
I’m sorry to say that I thought this book was a huge disappointment. The storyline was extremely slow and unimaginative. I’ve read every book that Johanna has written. This is the only time that I’ve had to force myself to keep reading, assuming it would get better. It did not. On the upside, one out of over a hundred isn’t bad. I’ll look forward to her next story and hope it’s as much of a page-turner as they usually are!

A good stand-alone!
When I heard that Johannah Lindsey had passed away, I wanted to know what her last book was and I believe this is it. It’s a really good stand alone story which was refreshing since I haven’t enjoyed her more recent series, including the last few Mallory novels. The interactions between the two main characters seem more natural than in other books. I really enjoyed this cute story and it made me want to go back and read some of her earlier works. Please let me know if you found this review helpful.

If I could get a refund, I would
My first caveat. I love Johanna Lindsey's work. I thought nothing of spending $15 on a Kindle book because I trusted her to create another captivating story. This one was not that. I really struggled with the characters. Nessi was an emboldened tomboy in the beginning yet complacent docile dolt in the middle. I'm not sure where the fearless hard charging lady went, but she wasn't anything like George or Regie or Amy. It seemed to meander in places. I struggled with even finishing the book. I know Johanna can do better. But this was clearly putting a story out there for a new payday moreso than developing a beautiful story.

Not for me
Vanessa Blackburn has been hiding out in Scotland with her father who is in exile due to estrangement and misunderstanding with his wife. Once Vanessa is grown, she is to return to England to her mother in order to enter the life of a lady and find a husband. She's pretty wild, having grown up under her father's somewhat neglected tutelage. Dressed as a man, she travels south to meet up with an incognito Lord Montgomery Townsend, a familiar of the Prince Regent who is bringing a disguised European prince to hide at Vanessa's mother's home. If this sounds like a Shakespeare comedy, the plot outline comes close. Unfortunately, the execution doesn't. The story rambles with fairly unbelievable coincidences and silly twists. The heroine is unlikeable and the hero not much better, both acting like sulky adolescents. Not for me.

Great love story
I love the historical accents the characters have that make this story more realistic to the era. this is by far NOT one of Johanna Lindsey's best books but I was engaged in the love story from beginning to end hence my rating. I wish some of the story lines were more believable but still worth the read.

Historically incorrect
Okay, the story itself is fine and I may have given it 5 stars if only the author had bothered to do any research and get the details accurate to the period and the titles right. It irritates me intensely when author's are sloppy over the details of novels that are historically set, they may as well just set them in modern day if they aren't going to bother with the correct details. For example, the period setting for this book is 1815 from what JL says about Napoleon. JL describes the hairstyles of the men as being long and clubbed back i.e. tied into the nape of their necks. However that fashion had gone out of style for young men and fashionable men by 1800, or just before. Men wore their hair short and layered or cropped. As for titles, JL gives Kathleen, Vanessa's mother two titles, Countess of Ketterham, which is correct as her husband is the Earl of Ketterham. But she also calls her Countess of Dawton, which is incorrect. Her father was the Earl of Dawton, therefore as his daughter Kathleen would have been Lady Kathleen whatever the family surname was. She would not have had the title of Countess unless she had been married to the Earl of Dawton. For heaven's sake JL get it right you've written enough books now.
