No difference in tone from a regular tenor
Don't waste your money if you're looking for a deeper tone than a regular tenor. I have a lanikai tenor and I thought the super tenor would have a deeper tone but it doesn't. Actually my lanikai has a deeper tone than this one.

This is my 6th Kala and perhaps my favorite.
I almost didn't buy because of review reporting a high and therefore difficult to play action. I went ahead and bought it anyway. I am delighted that I did. It is very handsome and sounds great. Full disclosure: I did sand down the saddle a bit to lower the action. It wasn't that bad "out of the box", but I wanted to see if I could improve the playability. It is now my most playable uke and is rapidly growing to be my favorite. There's not a great risk in trying to lower action by sanding the saddle. There are good instructional videos and your total risk exposure is $10 or less for a new saddle.

Beautiful well made tenor Ukulele
Upon close inspection this ukulele is well made. It is set up well and sounds good.

Nice but difficult
The instrument is beautiful and appears to be well-made. There is one major problem: the action is so high I find it nearly impossible to bar the first fret. I do not trust myself to lower the action, so it will be necessary to find an expert. I own other Kala products that I enjoy playing, but I fear that this one will just collect dust.

When you’re ready to step up…
This instrument sounds great and is a genuine pleasure to play. The extra width on the neck makes it much easier to press a string without interfering with adjacent ones - a problem for anyone with big hands. The action also makes it easier to play barre chords with less effort than my old concert sized instrument.

Maple binding
The binding is a stunning feature not expected except on higher end guitars. I love the gold tuning machines. It makes for a beautiful piece. The XL is perfect for my sausage fingers. I was unsure how I’d like the low G but now I find I much prefer it. Tone and playability are outstanding.
