We have it for our little one and just bought another for a gift for a baby shower. The art of creativity is getting lost in our world and this book helps you use your own creativity to tell the story. There are pictures to guide you though you can change the story and you can make it as short or as long as you want as suits your needs at the time. I think this book reminds the parents just as much as the child that using our imaginations is a key skill. I've also found that while my little one is now interested in this type of book is helpful for LO to "read.". LO now "reads" to us just as much as we read to LO. The imagery is nicely done and the easy palette is beautiful. It's nice to be able to pick up book that is fairly calming and not too overstimulating. The book serves a number of purposes and is sweet too. A great addition to a toddler's library. Review: A picture is worth 1000 words - This exquisitely presented wordless book truly proves that a picture is worth 1000 words. The story is about a girl who visits a beach and engages in imaginative play with an ocean wave. As she sneaks up on it, the wave in turn sneaks up on her. She growls and runs at it, and it crashes at her. Suzy artfully shows how this imaginative girl sees the wave as a playmate, and Suzy's stark contrast of the charcoal girl against the brilliant blue sea gives this book a sophisticated look which will appeal to children (and adults) of all ages.

Wonderfully, imaginatively simple
I bought this book for my 3-year-old granddaughter, and it instantly became her favorite book, especially after we had just come back from a playful day at the beach with its crashing waves. I "read" the book to her the first time (which I'm sorry I did, as I should have let her "read" it to me using her own version), but after that, she began "reading" it to me and each time she added something different to the story. She giggled at the taunting of the little girl to the wave, and then the results of that taunting. She totally related to the story, reminding me that we found seashells at the beach, bringing home a souvenir of a special seashell she had found, and that we ran away from the big waves when they crashed toward us. When we finished the book, she wanted to start all over. The illustrations are beautiful and the watercolors are simple yet poignant. I would recommend this book to everyone who can still enjoy the imagination of the child in all of us.

Captivating
I was originally worried this book would be too simple to hold my 2.5 y/o's interest, but she adores it. The first day we had it, she asked to read it about every 10 minutes. She is absolutely enamored with the beautiful pictures of the little girl and the sea gulls at the beach.

I absolutely love this book
I absolutely love this book. Being a graphic designer/artist, I'm so drawn to the simple illustrations and the story it tells without words. But the best part, is the story I make up with my son each and every time I read this. Best for young children though. My son is now 5 and still loves this book (along with her other book "Shadows") but I can see when he's a bit older and a better reader, he'll want to read books with actual words. But this book is amazing in creating a young person's imagination and a keepsake I will always cherish.

Printing problem
This book is amazing and fantastic and deserves 5 stars on its own merits. But....the printing is messed up!!! 3 image spreads have the artwork cutoff and it really affects the story. If I was the artist I'd flip out it's such an obvious printing mistake. This book is amazing, but I'd try to buy it elsewhere.

Suzy Lee is a beautiful artist
We love her artwork. "Mirror" is one of our favorites, but we decided to get this first. While I like it, I think "Mirror" tells a better, more detailed story -- even though there are no words. This type of book is great for young kids / early readers as they can flip through the pages, view the pictures & just have fun telling the story THEY see. Lovely.
