Only a handful of recordings demonstrate the level of musicianship that Mr. Emmanuel provides here. He accomplishes the rare feat of communicating true emotion with his instrumentals. The range covered includes somber reflection all the way to humor that might be described as silly, for lack of a better term. Sprinkled in liberally are feats of technical wizardry that had me frozen in slack-jawed amazement. To sum up, I would describe his playing overall as daringly brilliant (And I don't toss around the word "brilliant" at all often).Technique and projection aside, all the compositions are his own, and his style of presenting and resolving melodies is impeccable. Further, the fidelity of the record (in Pacific Microsonics HDCD)is as good as any I've heard.I once found a copy of the Impressions' Greatest Hits in a pawn shop for $5. That was the best money I ever spent for recorded music. "Only" comes in a very close second.

Tommy Emmanuel is without question one of the best guitarists in the world. What's that, you've never heard of him? Buy this cd and you'll find out how good Austrailia's best kept secret is.Emmanuel fluency and clean style is beautiful to listen to. His finger picking is unbelievable.His songs are very melodic and soothing. He ranges from jazz, country, soft rock and beyond.Some of my favorite cuts are the title cut "Only", "Drive" and "Lutrell". Each song shows off his range and awesome finger picking style.Chet Atkins awarded Emmanuel with the title "Certifed Guitar Player" which coming from Atkins is an honor in itself. Pick up this cd and hear the "CGP" for yourself. You'll find it was a much deserved award.

Master of Acoustic guitar

I was in search of a great instrumental guitar CD and happened upon the name Tommy Emmanuel during my search; I'm sure glad I did. I wanted a CD that I would enjoy listening to as many times as I have with Masters of Acoustic Guitar and Sounds of Wood & Steel.Listening to this CD has made me an instant Tommy fan. This CD has an excellent mixture of soothing and goosebump inducing tracks (the mark of a great CD in my book). I can't tell you how many times I've listened to track 3, Mombasa. I am quite certain I will own many more Tommy Emmanuel CDs. If you enjoy instrumental guitar, I would not hesitate to buy this one.

This is my first venture into the acoustic world, and Tommy is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. His music is full of emotion, and pure. Also, his technical ability is mind boggling, I don't even have an idea where to begin to try and understand how he does it. Anyways, he is one of my new favorites, buy this album.

Love the talent of this guy - purchased it for my father for Father's Day; he's a professional musician and he was impressed with his style.

I highly recommend for any TE fan. The album is only songs that he wrote.

This cd is a must for Tommy Emmanuel fans. It doesn't contain the more popular tunes that Tommy is likely to do at concerts, his magnificent covers of other people's tunes, but it is pure Tommy on mostly original stuff. These are tunes that Tommy fans go to his concerts to hear. Wonderful stuff.
