Solid Flatware!
I got a set to use with a traditional camping setup (1850-1930). They are solidly made and I've already used them numerous weekends since they arrived. They come coated in a light oil so I would wash them in hot soapy water before using. The sheath they come with doesn't quite fit, but it works. I would rub it down with either mink or olive oil to soften the leather and make it easier to use. The knife is amazing! It takes and holds a keen edge and has already cut a lot of meat and veggies while cooking as well as cutting meat on the plate. I havent had a need to re-sharpen yet. The fork (being 2 tined) is great for meat or larger bites such as potatoes or carrots, but fails for foods such as eggs. But that is it's nature. Just use the spoon! The spoon is rather large and extra thick. I would like it to be a bit smaller and thinner. But when eating soups or stews outside while winter camping you came to appreciate it! Great kit for the price and will soon order 2 more!

Better than I expected... Great bargain!
I have bought some of the more expensive "medieval" sets of utensils in the past, so I was a bit leery of the quality I would get at such a low price (the other sets were more than twice as costly) compared to others. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the the two sets (identical to one another) I received. These are real heavy duty items that I am sure will last a very long time! They are made from heavy steel that is about an eighth of an inch (at least three millimeters) thick. There isn't any flaky paint or coating on any pieces and the finish just seems like genuine unpolished iron. Only the parts that would actually go into your mouth are polished. The ones that I got are identical to those shown in the large color photos with the fork stuck in the turkey leg. In the photos I posted for this review, I am holding the knife so that you can see that the handle of knife is wide and curved so that one's hand is less likely to slip over the sharp edge when cutting. This a really good deal for hand forged cutlery! They will look great at the next medieval banquet i attend.

Great set!
Outside packaging was decent, just a box but nothing soaked through. Everything was oily, but the bag holding the cutlery was completely sealed. The leather case essentially glued itself shut, so 4 stars. But overall a good product. I cleaned everything else off like I would my high-carbon steel knives and they came out great. Knife was sharp, cur through garlic and ginger better than some of my other knives. They were pretty heavy to hold, but given the size I expected that. Knife/pan method I used (exhausting, but trust the process). -washed 3x with dawn (some metallic residue on the black part of the blade but that came off eventually). Hand dried, coat lightly with vinegar, leave to air-dry then rinse and re-dry by hand (no streaks) and re-oil. The following day, re-wash, dry, and oil, then “seal” over a flame. Honestly I could’ve probably skipped the vinegar and overnight part, but I’m a creature of habit and it’s worked so far. Zero rust.

Lead free!
Product arrived on time and in good condition, no rust. The knife is sharp and coated black like the picture, but the spoon and fork were just silver. The best part was that they were all lead free! They are strong, thick, solid metal. The fork is just welded on rod and the leather pouch is pretty cheap, but for $17 what do you expect.

Perfect For Ren Faire
I attend renaissance faires with an archery guild and we like to use period cutlery as much as possible. These work perfectly. The knife is sharp enough to use for meat and bread, though I wouldn't consider it some sort of blacksmithing masterwork or anything. I particularly like the spoon, as we do a lot of soup meals. The 2 tong fork is a lot of fun but plenty easy to use. It was exactly what I was hoping for and at a terrific price. I'll be getting more sets to give to new folks who join the guild.

Oily out of box, carrier has a stiff back and flimsy pocket, good metal, looks great
Carrier: TL;DR the carrier/sheathe is not great and I'd suggest making/buying a separate carrier for the cutlery if you can. - The leather strap meant to hold the metalware together almost immediately snapped when I gently bent it prior to tying. (-1 star). - Belt loop sits rather high up since the loop is in the center of the carrier, rather than at the top. The loop is also a rather small opening and won't fit onto larger or thicker belts, such as most leather belts. (-1 star). - Front pocket also seems rather thin and flimsy compared to the very stiff back. I'm a little apprehensive about the long-term viability of the carrier if I'm to keep placing the knife and fork into it. (-1 star) Metalware/Cutlery: TL;DR Looks great! Very oily, so wash first. - Out of the box, the metalware is slathered in oil. This is likely to help preserve it and prevent rust upon arrival, but definitely wash before eating with it as I doubt the oil is safe for consumption. (-1 star) - The metalware looks great though! The spoon is a bit thicker than expected at nearly 1/4 inch thick, but something tells me that's par for the course for medieval cutlery. Other than that, the metalware looks really nice and feels good to hold. (+1 star) - The knife it comes with, as well as the two-pronged fork seem nice and sharp and of a decent quality too. May have versatile uses beyond simply eating. We'll see. (+1 star) - I haven't had a chance to test the metalware out, but it seems more than sufficient for eating with. Though be careful about prolonged exposure to heat, as you might burn your hands if you're out in the sun all day with metal cutlery on your belt. (expected since it's metal) (+0 stars) Overall, I'd say this is a 3 star product.

Incredible blacksmith work!
Even better than expected, these Medieval cutlery are incredible! An amazing blacksmith work! They are sturdy and will last longer than me! -- Also, don’t be alarmed about that 'Cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm' warning on the box. You’re not going to get cancer or cause birth defects if you use and carry the set regularly. This is only the the result of California’s Proposition 65. You can read about it online.

will rust if proper care not taken.
washed with dawn dishsoap twice to remove the grease; seems they are fire blackened to a medium hard temper; the file will bite and skate intermittently on the blade edge. knife grind bevel, will require much work to have a sharp knife that will cut; as is spreads butter well. Care for these will depend on them not being exposed to damp air. they will most certainly rust. this is not stainless steel. what I did: I rubbed an amount of beeswax to coat the handle of the knife, and used a torch lighter to heat the metal so the wax would layer across the surface. the knife is now treated and rust proofed; with a slightly improved tactility to the grip. The craftsmanship: well to good grade; this will last years as long as they are not left to moisture, and treated carefully with wax when needed. The " leather sheath" : oh man.. it's .. paper wrapped in pleather, glued down, sewed, and slapped together. miserably construction; will require a new sheath to be made; fortunately i'm a leatherworker and the replacement of the sheath will not be any trouble at all. My only complaint is the esthetic twist of the metal gets in the way when attempting to stack the tools for storage. aside from that; expected a little bit of rust; but these are quality re-enactment tools.
