I bought a new (to me) home that has security cameras. I called the security company to gain access to the cameras and make sure the old owner didn’t still have access. The security company spent 4 billable hours trying to get the system working with the original NVR and then said they'd have to come back with the "expert". Then they kept blowing me off. I got tired of asking them so I simply purchased a new Lorex NVR (on sale) and had it hooked up and working within 30 minutes. I may buy some new cameras to replace the 10 year old ones in the existing system. The app works pretty well and there are no hidden costs.

Easy to set up. Be sure that your cameras will work with the dvr. Luckily we did the research and our cameras fit. Since our dvr stays in our garage, I bought the 3 yr warranty which was cheap. This dvr has a great app, but only works on one phone per household.

I decided to upgrade my 7 year old broken night owl DVR and keep my old cameras instead of replacing everything with a fully digital NVR system that uses ethernet cables. I went thru a handful of DVRs that either had horrible apps, limited functionality like no timeline playback(!!!!), or bad hardware like no fans or fan connectors on the motherboards. I almost gave up and this Lorex was the last one I bought that I was going to decide between. Thankfully it solved any and all issues. The motion detection works decently enough that I don't think I've missed anything. It has both event AND continuous timeline recording which was somehow missing from the other systems I previously purchased, but was included in my old system. Beats me. The device and app interfaces are intuitive. I set motion detection zones and changed some of the image settings because it was motion detecting static interference. I like that a fan was included tho I changed it out with a quieter aftermarket one. All in all I'm very satisfied. Also, I installed a security system specific hard drive because it will last much longer under recording load over a typical computer hard drive. So I do suggest that.

This is the second time we have bought this product… They don’t work and they charge you to return it

I can only assume that if you are VERY tech savvy, this will probably be a breeze to install. But being a more seasoned older adult who is not that tech savvy, it has not been the most happy experience trying to get it up and running. The video is way above what I had because the previous DVR although rated 4K, could not take advantage of the 4K 8MP cameras - this LORAX can and does. What an eye popping thing to see. It is much simpler overall than I am used to for reviewing feeds but it does have limitations you must be aware of. The fact that you CAN NOT make adjustments from you desktop computer - you MUST go to the DVR with a mouse and a monitor to make changes (sensitivity, range, etc, etc.). Last but not least, LOREX HOME will NOT work on your desktop so you have to use LOREX CLOUD all the while the DVR works on LOREX HOME. Makes for further complications in setting it up. Customer service is way above what I had previously had to deal with and they are knowledgeable, patient, and courteous. The ONLY reason I gave it four stars is due to my desktop is at one end of the building and the LOREX is at the complete other end and up a ladder making it impossible to work with LOREX CLOUD from my desktop which would have made the whole install process so much simpler instead of me running back and forth. Even though the previous DVR system was much harder to operate and set up, all future changes or tweaks could be done from the desktop.

I recently bought a TIGERSECU DVR and it was so bad that i could not understand why it has so many great reviews. (Something very fishy there.) I ended up reading a review from someone who made the same mistake i did by buying that DVR because of REVIEWS and he suggested getting a Lorex DVR instead. I did that and i am SO GLAD i did. It is 10X better for an extra $40 and you get a 4K ULTRA HD DVR with a 2TB Hard Drive instead of just a 2K with a 1TB Drive. Additionally, the LOREX APP is excellent quality unlike the TIGERSECU App with is terrible. FIVE STARS TO LOREX. I would give them 10 STARS if i could.

Good and clear image

The Lorex DVR is high quality, easy to set up and operate. I am extremely happy that it is compatible with my existing surveillance cameras. I was able to easily swap out the broken Night Owl DVR with the new Lorex DVR - it works great! Very satisfied!
