So far it's working great
So far no issues. Seems to be well made and had good terminals People claiming it gets too hot are probably not using the right wiring or terminals. It is highly recommended to use pure copper 4 gauge wire and copper terminals. Do not use CCA wire or cheap terminals. If you're not running it at half power don't go smaller than 4 gauge wire. Make sure your alternator can handle a 75 to 90 amp load on top of what your vehicle uses. I correct wiring will cause high resistance and heat, the heat transfers to the circuit board and will damage the unit. It does get hot to the touch but not hot enough to burn. Read the instructions and make sure the dip switches are set properly according to the battery you're using.

this device drained my starter battery, repeatedly
I installed the device correctly with the ignition wire that only turns on the device when the engine is running. I talked with renogy twice and we confirmed all the connections were perfect.. This device continued to drain my starter battery and it was also popping 100 amp in line fuses between the starter battery and the DC charger, as I have braided 4AWG going from the starter battery to this charger per the manual. renogy tried to tell me that my starter battery was no good. I informed them that if my starter battery was not providing enough electricity the Red fault light would be on, which is one of the design outputs of their DC charger, per thier manual. I also explained to them if there’s not enough electricity coming from the starter battery it’s not going to pop 100 amp breaker repeatedly when i'm driving. i am military and I called back to duty after i bought this charger so I couldn’t install this until three months after I bought it. amazon they said there’s no return option available. I noticed on the 40 amp charger. They did an upgrade which is an automatic alternator checker so I think this problem is well known. UPDATE: I contacted Renogy 10 days ago and they asked for photos of my installation of the charger which was done per the manual. I informed them the device failed right out of the box. I sent the photos in and they said it would be 24-48hr and i haven’t heard from them after 10 days. I then called them and was transferred many times and received the run around. they are now asking for me to conduct resistance testing on thier own device not connected to anything and to test my starter battery. they said if they’re happy with these results, they’ll send me a return authorization for me to send the device back to them. They will test it and either send it back to me or send another device back to me. This whole process will take many many weeks. so ridiculous. I have no faith in their device now. I’ve never had a company ask me to do electrical tests on their own device to ensure that it works before i can return it to them.

seems efficient
I installed these units to charge the 2x 600ah battery bank(s) shown above. My instalation draws power from a 250 amp engine alternator. The charging units have primary input and output hookups of solid metal with machine screws to secure the wires. They also have 2x additional wire inputs. One wire input activates the unit, it will not charge untill voltage is applied to the "D+" terminal. This allows it to fuction as a battery isolator relay, whereby it wont charge untill its told to by the activation wire. It also has a second activation wire for a 50% power mode. This knocks the charging amperage down to 30 amps, and I highly reccomend wireing this lead to a toggle switch. I installed 2x units and found that a 250 amp alternator cannot power more than one of these at idle engine speed. At highway speed and higher rpm, I can run both units at 60 amps. but at night time with all lights on in the RV, I can only run one at 60 amps and the other at 50% power without overdrawing the alternator. The installation instructions indicate that they "may draw upto" 90 amps, but upon installation i havnt seen more than 65 amps. I installed 2 of these units which is kinda crazy, i did it by isolating two battery banks with a giant diode array, in the form of a battery isolator diode set installed "upside down" on the negative terminal side. but take note that a 250 amp alternator can barely power both of them when tacked ontop of the other electrical load for the RV. Installing one unit with a common 130-150 amp alternator it would be advised to install the amperage reduction function to avoid overtaxing the alternator at low engine rpm. The units have internal cooling cans that SUCK AIR from the electrical input side, and EXPEL AIR on the electrical output side. This information is only apparent AFTER installation, so ill include it here. 2 gauge cable worked fine. to install the activation leads, unscrew the tiny screw above the wiring opening, insert the wire, then tighten the screw. This information is not included in the instructions so i include it here. Since you will probibly wire the activation lead to turn the unit on whenever the engine is running, advise installing an interupt switch for that lead, or a giant battery disconnect switch for the voltage input as I did.

UPDATE: Two defective units in a row and I'm out all the installation fees.
UPDATE: I would love to say this a great charger, however I have received two of them and neither of them worked correctly. The first one was DOA when I received it. It cost me $200 to have it installed, only to have my installer tell me it was not working correctly, and pull it out. I sent that back to Amazon, but was out the $200 installation fee. Stupidly, I bought a second one because I like the company. I again paid $200 to have this installed in my RV under the passenger seat where apparently it needs to go. This one worked, so I was happy with it. It worked well, in fact, for all of three days into my vacation, then I noticed on my battery monitor that there was no charge whatsoever coming from my alternator. On vacation, 2000 miles from home, I had to drive two hours to an RV place to have this unit taken out. Removal and reconnection of my old wiring cost me $220 this time. Now I am up to $620 in installation and removal fees. I drove the rest of my vacation with the straight alternator and was fine. When I returned I called Amazon and they agreed to take back the unit even though it was past the 30 days. They said they would charge a restocking fee but that the fee would be waived once they received the unit. They now refuse to refund the 45.00 restocking fee because the unit is not in re-sellable condition, to which I can only say, Of Course not! The long and short of it is that it cost me $665 to try to make this work and as much as I like the company, it doesn't. The units I got were defective and I would not order this again from them.

Noisey and Low amps
And 3 months into using it, the fans started making a buzzing sound. Like I've heard when I had old desktop computers and eventually the fan starts to go out so that was disheartening. The noise goes up and down every month or so better and worse but it's always made the noise. Never have I ever once. Got 60 amps out of this thing, as usual. They bumped it up to make it seem like more than what it really is. On average I get as a range, 48 to 52 amps so I really can't complain but it's just they should call it a 50 amp not a 60. So overall it's somewhat did what I wanted but it never lived up to its full potential. Going with a LiTime charger this time. Prices and battery quality are both outstanding (very highly rated) so I'm hoping dc to dc is the same quality. Renogy products as a whole are not very good....I have used other things from them but everything is very cheaply made and not QA'd very well imo.

Exactly what I needed
Does exactly what I got it for! Install is very simple. I like the terminal design, very secure connections for my wire lugs. Not all lugs will fit in here, but I have found that most 4awg lugs that I purchased in a kit from another Amazon seller have fit perfectly in this device. When others haven't fit, I've been able to cut to size. I noticed that manu reviewers say it runs hot. Mine is definitely warm to the touch when charging at 60a, but I wouldn't say it is hot and I certainly wouldn't worry about the heat generated from the device creating a fire or burn hazard. I've run run this baby now daily for about 1 week and am very happy with this product. I would purchase again and highly recommend this unit!

Blown internal 40amp fuses
I just received a package and installed it so far it’s working great. I let the vehicle idle for about two hours to test out charging capabilities. I got the 60 amp and at idle it was dishing out about 57A 740W of charging power. Only reason I’m not giving it. Five stars is cause I haven’t put it through a durability and time test and because the product came broken I had to take it down and open it up and replace the internal 3 40amp fuses

Low efficiency.
Working as advertised but found out it’s low efficiency - while delivering 57A it takes 89A from alternator. Also there is no low voltage shut down so when car slow and stop on red light and RPM are low voltage drop below 11V and car (radio lights) not functioning correctly while it still sucks all these Amps.

Works fine but be Careful with Draw on Starting Battery
I purchased the 60 amp model. Installed in my truck cap along with an inverter and a 100 amp hr deep cell battery. I installed it to run our Ecoflow cooler, as well as to run some of my tool battery chargers. We took the cooler on our east coast trip. The cooler was plugged into the inverter the whole time for about half the trip. I had the cooler set to 38 deg F. Each morning when I went to start the truck, it turned over slower than normal. I thought that was odd. after a couple days, brought the cooler into the cabin. those mornings the truck turned over just fine. So this is not isolating from the starting battery when the truck is turned off. Did I miss read the manual? Is it not supposed to isolate from the starting battery when it is turned off? I have it hooked into the alternator wire as instructed. Now that we are home I'm going to do some testing with my amp clamp.

Careful these have issues!
I purchased this charger in late June I didn’t get to install it until 2 1/2 weeks ago, it doesn’t work correctly It hasn’t from the minute I put it in I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years. I have a very, very good understanding of wiring. The part where it says(customers return this item frequently) Was not on this page page at the time of purchase purchase, but I see now that it is I would’ve never bought this in the first place I would like somebody to do something about this. Send me another charger or return this charger and I will buy one from a different company that it actually works. I would like somebody to contact me from Amazon or Renogy before I take this any steps farther I will edit this post when I get some feedback from Amazon or the company
