An Excellent Tool for Camping, Hunting of Around the Home
Since I no longer crawl around in the jungle or have the ability to hike and camp in the outdoors, one might ask, "why in the heck did you purchase this MTECH USA Rescue Team Fixed Blade Survival Knife 10.25-Inch?" Well, the answer is very simple to me. Because I liked and wanted it! Honestly? I had made an earlier purchase of another brand of knife, almost exactly like this in design and quality, only a more spiffy brand name, at a considerably higher price and it arrived with the striking realization 12.5-Inches is HUGE! Not only that, the design of the knife in hand, is quiet different than looking at it online, as it had a Bowie Knife like aspect to it with a top leading sharpened edge. All of which are illegal to carry in many situations in my state and especially under my limited circumstances. Thus and regrettably, I returned it and with no difficulty from Amazon.com with that transaction. I discovered this specific knife by accident and compared all aspects of it to the previously returned knife, noting the Tanto versus Drop Point blade and at only 10.25-Inches overall length. Now 'THAT' I can deal with much more easily. Ironically, for being so close in quality, design, expected and reviewed performance, it is at a considerably less cost than the previously returned knife. I received the new knife in less than 48 hours, very well package, in excellent condition and very sharp out of the box. It fits very comfortably in my hand, which is average-large, is well balanced, single-edged and extremely sturdy with full tang and strong. I also like the finished coating on the outside of the blade as a personal preference. MTECH USA is quickly becoming a strong competitor in the tactical, survival, rescue knife arena, where the quality surpasses the investment with the same high quality return as some of the spiffier brand names. I highly recommend this knife especially for those who desire a smaller version of a 12 to 12.5-Inch survival knife, yet with all of the abilities and quality within an overall length of 10.25-Inches. A very sturdy, black, well designed protective sheath is included, which bodes well as an additional asset to this purchase. This is a great knife to meet many needs and challenges and I am very satisfied to have it as part of my collection.

A low cost full tang tanto fixed blade knife, complete with guards and comfortable handle
This is one of the lowest cost Tanto fixed blade kniives you will find that is also full tang. Many Tanto knives do NOT come with guard that protect your hand from sliding onto the blade in if you use it to stab or pierce, this one does. Nice big guards, in fact. Most tanto knives do not have a big comfortable handle that is easy to grip, this one does! The steel is decently thick; maybe about 3-3.5 MM, for this size and price I believe that is thick enough. I do not like the black coating because it seems a bit too thick and slightly rough (like many of these low budget mtech knives). I suppose the coating is good to have though for the long run on these cheap 440a steel blades, it's also good to put a light coating of oil on the blade. This is good for self defense or if you want a knife for rescue work, or to use it as a camp knife, or a general purpose around the property doing work kind of knife. It's about 10.5 inches long, so it's on the small to medium end of the scale, not really big enough to baton firewood, but you probably could a little bit if you really had to. Not a big chpping knife, and the tanto is not ideal for bushcraft either. Just a nice self defense junkyard beater that looks tough, and may or may not be, but it was only $10, so why not! No knife collection is complete without a tanto fixed blade knife, and Mtech makes that a no brainer! The sheath is just like all the other $10 mtechs; ok considering the price, actually i say these sheaths are pretty good for a $10 knife. At least they put 3 rivets on the sheath, in addition to the stitching. Nothing to complain about here at this price point! Update 6/3/2019: I took the knife and put it to use, using it to pry open some old paint cans, and also stabbing holes in some paint cans. Of course the tanto blade excelled at such junk yard use, or rough use as they say. Yes, the guard worked very well when stabbing the paint cans to keep my hand from sliding onto the blade. This is a pretty tough knife for $10! It still looks tough, too. Have fun, buy extra! PS One caveat with mtech knives is sometimes the steel blade may break. But that is true with other knives as well. When you are dealing with a $10 knife the quality control is not always that great. Sometimes the steel didn't finish properly and I think that is why we see some failures with these knives. So if you are using this in a situation where your life depends on it, then you should have a backup. Not the best for mission critical applications.

Kinda dull but otherwise good knife
Just got my M-Tech knife in today. First impression was that it was bigger than I thought it was going to be. From end to end the whole knife is as long as my forearm. I originally bought it to keep it in my car but it's a bit overkill seeing how large it is lol. It has a really nice weight to it and feels very solid. The black paint looks sweet and the rubber grip is comfortable and easy to hold - it does kinda smell like gasoline though but I don't really care, it'll probably go away once it's been out of the package for a while. Only real downside to it is that it really is dull. I haven't tried sharpening it yet so I'll give it a go and see how sharp I can get it. Overall I give it a 4/5 though. Really good price, solid and balanced, just a bit dull.

Great Knife Under $15
This is the second of two M-Tech knives I bought. I got them because they were cheap and I didn't expect much. The drop point hunter version I got first and it was pretty crappy, even though it was a couple bucks more than the tanto rescue. See my review of that knife if you care for details. This knife was different in almost every way. It's hard to believe the same company made them, and since they probably source the knives from different shops - maybe they were different suppliers. The knife had a very good edge, "shaving sharp" as they say. I haven't used the knife, so can't comment on whether it holds an edge. Initial quality of the knife was great for this price. The pommel is tight on the pin and the fit with the end of the tang is excellent, unlike the other version. The pin was snipped off and a sharp edge sticks out that I'll need to dress off with a drill bit. The handle material has more grip than the other, but without any texture it is sure to be slippery when wet. The finger guard is thick and tight and I can't see any gap with the blade or handle. The blade is marked 440 stainless with no letter descriptor. Probably isn't the best steel, but I bought these to practice my sharpening anyway. The blade measures 5/16ths at the spine with a typical tanto grind that brings that thickness almost to the end of the knife at the center of the blade. The point and both ground edges are very well done and remind me of the CS GI tanto I have. Other than the grind the blade is covered in a crappy crinkle finish that I'm sure will come right off since it just looks like paint. I will probably strip it off anyway. The sheath isn't great, but is much better than the hunter. They use better nylon, have better stitching and a snap closure. The liner is better quality and the blade sheath is bowed out a little. This design isn't as tight to the blade, but it seems it will wear better and the snap closure is really secure. I really didn't expect this much knife for under $15. I wish my hunter was this good since that's the more useful blade profile.

Very good for $10!
4/7/2014, 4:36 P.M. Okay, so it's not American-made and the steel isn't high carbon, but it honestly isn't bad for $10. If it WAS American-made, I would have bought it in a second. I spent a week researching this knife because I found out it was American-designed but made in China. I just got mine today, I ordered it on Friday and it arrived on Monday, so shipping was very fast. I was expecting to wait at least a week for it. Out of the box, I wasn't expecting a Ka-bar, but it was sharp enough to shave with. And I noticed that some of the coating had chipped off in the pommel and the tip. It takes a bit of work to put the blade into the sheath because the sheath is very snug. Pros: 1. Very solid knife, nothing feels loose 2. The coating feels really nice 3. Blade is nice and thick(Though some of you may not like that because it may throw off the balance of the knife) 5. Came sharp right out of the box 6. The handle feels nice and is sturdy and solid, no rattling of any kind 7. Shipped VERY fast 8. Last, but most important of all(to me at least): FULL TANG Cons: 1. There was some chipping in the coating in the pommel and the tip. 2. It's a bit annoying to sheath the blade if you want to button it down with the straps because of the extreme snug of the sheath(You really have to get in there, wassup!) 3. The sheath is not ambidextrous $. Strap is down too low I would recommend this to anyone! I will update this and let you know how it holds in the field! Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy this knife. Let me know if you've any questions!

Nice Knife
I got this knife for a friend of mine as part of his birthday present. I had recently purchased a knife from M-Tech (the Whetstone Usa Full Tang Stainless Steel Jungle Survival Knife ), and i loved it. Great balance, feel, etc. So i thought this would be a great knife to get for my friend. It is a nice knife. It has a good feel, the balance is good, the handle is easy to grip. The sheath is also sturdy, in my review of my other M-Tech knife is said the Velcro section that holds the knife handle in place is somewhat flimsy, although it is still flimsy i think they have improved it since i got my other knife. My only complaint about this knife is that the blade was very dull when I received it. This is easily remedied by getting it sharpened but just wanted to put it out there that it isn't exactly ready to go out of the box. Overall another very nice knife from M-Tech. Pros: Good balance Easy to grip handle Nice sheath Cons: Dull on arrival Velcro handle holder is flimsy (although improved) UPDATE: Just bought this knife for myself. This one was another great knife. It came sharper than the first time i bought it which was a nice plus, also the sheath is different. Instead of using Velcro to hold the handle in place, the sheath now uses a button clip to hold it in place. It does hold it in better than the Velcro did. UPDATED PROS AND CONS: Pros: Good balance Easy to grip handle Nice sheath. The handle is secured with a button instead of Velcro now. Cons: The fabric that secures the handle is a little flimsy.

M-Tech Tanto Knife
When I received this knife it came in its box wrapped in a paper envelope. I was not expecting the weight or size of the product I ordered. I could tell this knife was solid right from the moment I gripped it in my hands and made a few motions with it. The knife is not as sharp as I'd like it to be, but it is still very sharp(it does not shave hair). I tested the sharpness on paper, then cardboard, then wood. The knife will stick into wood very well, but the powder coating on the blade deteriorates on the top of the blade (the sides are fine). The knife is about 10 and a half inches long total and has a 6 inch blade. Tanto pointed, this knife is very solid and has a KA-BAR style handle. It is a bit different than the one shown, but the only difference is the label placement. The rubberized grip is a plus for me. Overall, this gets a 4 star rating because it is solid and sharp, but the coating and grip were a bit cheap (but not too cheap) I recommend this knife to anyone looking to get a solid blade for a very reasonable price. Or people who want a KA-BAR and jsut can't spend that kind of money.
