Helium Aero Hardside Expandable Luggage with Spinner Wheels, Blue Cobalt, Carry-On 19 Inch

From someone who has traveled internationally frequently, reviewing a checked bag (24") 1. 10lb weight unpacked. Even some carry-on's weigh that much. So....if you are limted to 50lbs (45 even on some airlines, you'll want to save weight. This bag is nice and light despite the hard sides. Because you DON'T repeat don't don't pack to the limit. I let my traveling buddy do this just once and it was DISASTER. She overloaded on the way back (of course!) and I was tossing stuff into my (underloaded bag) while saying naughty words. Oh, yes, I travel with a small luggage scale. If you have an over-packer with you, or can't estimate weights, you will want one too. They are a small investment saving hundreds. Believe me.... Overweight bags? The airline gets this look of "OH BOY!" in their eyes at the agent desk and you'll be hauling out your wallet. Don't do it. 100pct would not recommend. 2. Structure: the surface is shiny ABS --the titatium color is a lovely shiny gunmetal grey but you may want some decoratively bright tape in fluorescent barbi pink, evil orange or gruesome green to make it stand out among all the black and grey luggage. The surface is ridged vertically for extra strength. 3. Inside: there is a zip compartment in the top and straps on the bottom. The zip compartment has an extra zip pocket in the nylon divider. Huge points for this. Keeps shoes and say, equipment off the clothing. The small compartment on the divider holds little items or USB cords or a copy of your insurance. 4. Spinner wheels. Why I bought it. My well-traveled and now obsolete suitcase has only drag wheels and though I'm sentimental about it (we rounded the Horn together) it has to be retired. Spinners are the way to go; you can wheel it unlifted all over long walks in airports like Houston, Rome, Berlin and Madrid. 5. Hard sides: I've seen musical instruments being tossed like circus acrobats into the cargo ramp (and the hapless musician crying like a baby as they watched while being given smelling salts) so you want hard sides. 6. Expanding zipper: I've used this. I like a 24" suitcase (keeps me from being tempted to overpack) and then when I'm forced to take on the traveling companion's overweight items, I can expand to fit them unexpectedly. Or if I'm bringing home something I just couldn't resist . 5. Zipper pulls fit a 3 combo lock with TSA compliance. If you rotate the zip pulls around they snap into a lock on the long side. If it happens to get destroyed during travel, you still can lock with a TSA compliant loop lock separately. 6. 24" size. Big enough for a week or two, can be checked (too big for carry-on.) Why not the 29" This limits the temptation to overpack. However, if you travel with an over-packer and you can restrain yourself, the 29" larger is handy as you can leave room and weight in case of someone being overweight on the way home. You can then rescue them from an overweight bag by redistributing. Also a 29" is better for long trips (3-4 week or more.) Summary: This is a very well designed, useful piece of luggage

I got this bag to match the larger Delsey Paris checked bag size I already have and love. I love the red color. The checked bag is instantly recognizable on the turnstile. This carry-on bag is as great as I was hoping it would be. It has a zipper compartment on one side for things that might move around. Just zip that side closed and nothing’s moving. The other side has straps to secure your folded clothing. There are also 2 smaller zipper pockets to secure smaller items. I travel fairly frequently to visit my daughter and her family, and I often stay for one to three weeks. I have learned that I don’t need the big bag. I can easily fit a week’s worth of casual clothes in this carry-on. If I stay longer, I just wash clothes. The bag is expandable. However, I have found that with the zipper expansion open, it does not comply with the carry-on dimensions for all airlines. So you have to check before using the expansion. That said, the bag is still very roomy even without the expansion. Because I always take my own pillow when I travel. So it has to go in the carry-on. So what I do is pack everything, then put the pillow in. Then I open the zipper expansion and close the suitcase. Then after a bit I am able to close the zipper expansion with the pillow inside. It works! As I said, very roomy! It’s also very light and rolls very well. And I can put my backpack on the handle, and it rolls beautifully. Love this bag!

We have had this suitcase for about 3 months, my partner and I travel a lot for work and pleasure so I did some extensive research on the pros and cons of hard luggage vs soft and the different types of wheels etc. This Aero Delsey line was always one of the top rated and made just about every travel blog luggage rating list I saw. We bought a whole set, the 29", 25" and 2 of the smallest ones the 19" that has the outside pocket and can fit in a overhead bin. I would recommend getting the 3rd party warranty as it covers about anything and is well worth it if you do travel a lot like we do. All of the sizes that we purchased fit inside one another which is great for storage. You do have to get use to how to pack and open the hard luggage if you have never used them before. Don't want all of you stuff pouring out in be hotel. Couple of things I would say to think about if you are looking for new luggage. The wheels are so important, these spinners are great make sure that no matter which luggage you end up buying make sure the wheels are double-sided spinners so it's little 2 little wheels on each one (like on office chairs) some of the cheaper, and even more expensive brands have single wheels and they will wear down faster and break more easily. Also one thing to note, when you have these hard shell suitcases and you get to a hotel or where ever you are traveling to, if you are the type of person that likes to setup a luggage stand and just live out of your suitcase sitting on it, these may not be the best option for you. Since items are stored evenly on each side you have to open the suit case fully like a book to really access everything and to pack and unpack it, just something to consider. In the 3 months we have had these we have traveled 2 times internationally and probably 4-5 times domestically like NYC area to FL and NC, checking these hard shell suitcases does get some scratches on them but overall they have really held up well. The side handles, retractable handle and the wheels have all remained sturdy and we have not had any issues. The lock works great on the side and the inside zipper compartment and straps all work great. You can really fit a lot into these suitcases and the best part about this model is that is gives a little unlike some hard shells so you can fit that extra few things in, it also has the zipper expander but we have not needed to expand it any. The luggage looks great and very stylish, have taken it right into meetings with me and even had some complements. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions I have included a few photos to show have they have worn as most people probably travel less in a year then we do in a few months.

I've been on the search for the "perfect" luggage for twenty years. Changes in size restrictions, weight restrictions, etc. have complicated matters. Add to that the frustrations of finding sturdy handles, interiors that actually keep belongings in place, and exteriors that will hold up to being tossed around... well. Those are all factors that make mine an ongoing search. The last round of soft-sided suitcases developed some tears. The last round of hard-shell suitcases began to detach along the zipper seams. I've read the pros and cons of polycarbonate, ABS, combination materials - and still end up placing a bet rather than buying with confidence. I'm not even sure the super-expensive, top-of-the-line suitcases are worth the money - not that I can afford them. If they hold up better, I wonder if it's because the owners are traveling business- or first-class and the luggage also gets better treatment. At any rate: I've used these Delseys (I bought two) four times now. They began to show scrapes and scratches after the first trip, but I don't really give a d'mn how the outside of a suitcase looks. I only worry about performance (and cost). The insides are holding up well - I like how the zippered covering zips to the inside, rather than to the outside - and the interior lining looks brand-new. I'm not crazy about the straps over the other half of the interior: when snugged-up, they have a "loop" of excess strap. I don't see that it's a better idea than just having the extra strap-end loose, but it's a small matter, perhaps even of personal preference. The wheels have held up well - I've had suitcases that lost a wheel almost with the first use, so this is a plus. And they spin well, but not to the extent that they tend to take off on their own. Another plus. The handles have been adequate: they have a bit more play and wobble in them than I'd like (the kind of play and wobble that makes me wonder how well they'll hold up and how long they'll last), but I like "full" handles as opposed to T-handles (even if it slightly benefits the interior design), so it's a plus, even if it's personal preference. One thing I dislike - and dislike on most suitcases - is the "expandable gusset." I wish suitcases came with an option to choose with or without gusset, because I would surely choose "without." Once expanded, your suitcase will most likely be over the size limit - so what's the use? I suppose if you're going on a road trip, you can make the suitcase as large as you like, but you wouldn't really be able to use the extra space for planes, trains, buses, cruises... And the other problem is, as soon as you expand the gusset to pack more things, the better the odds that you will end up over a weight limit. Who needs that? These Delseys have held up for three (round-trip) flights and one train trip. They wheel fairly easily, the handles are manageable, and the stuff I pack stays in place. The exteriors have shown wear but no cracks, breaks, punctures, dings. In short, so far, so good. They get four stars for price and doing what I bought them to do; they lose a star for exterior "dingability," wobbly handles, and the unnecessary extra zipper for the unwanted gusset.

I really like this luggage! It is sleek and expensive looking, holds a lot of items, rolls VERY easily, and has proven to be quite durable. We bought two of the 25 inch and one of the smaller carry on size for a trip to China. I was worried about making the switch from soft sided luggage we have always used to hard shell bags but after 15,000 plus miles over 17 days I am happy I did. All three bags were loaded on at least 8 different flights, half a dozen taxi's, onto three trains, a high speed bullet train, several buses, 3 or 4 airport terminal trains, a ferry...rolled over miles of airport terminals, train stations, up and down more stairs then I can remember...jammed into car trunks and opened and inspected by customs at least 4 or 5 times that I know of. They got a few scuffs of course but still look great. At least 10 different people commented on how nice the bags look and a woman actually asked if she could take a picture to show her husband...of our luggage. I am serious. They hold a lot of "stuff" also. So much so that the clothes looked a lot better when removed then they normally do. We also had quite a bit of extra space in the carry on for the inevitable travel "bloat" type items we bought on the trip. We did not have to ever use the expansion zippers but I did try them out a few times just to see how they work and them seem well thought out and sturdy as well. The wheels really do roll well, and stacking a messenger type bag and coats etc. on top of each case turns them into very handy carts. I Did enjoy rolling by the $2.00 a pop cart rentals =) and if needed for curbs or pavement markers (China has a tone of these in public buildings for the vision impaired) you can tilt the luggage onto two wheels like older style bags if needed. The wheels are good enough that if your on a slight slope the bags can get away from you if you let them go. The pull out handles are strong enough for the task and slide in and out MUCH better then the ones on our old bags. They are also well integrated into the cases so that they don't seem to take up a lot of room inside the bags. The regular carry handles are one of the few less then perfect parts of these bags. The handles are the retractable type designed to fit flush to the case when not being used and they are a bit hard to pull away from the bag enough to get your fingers around them. Once you are used to it you just give them a good tug out and your fine, but cabbies and hotel people always seemed to just grab the pull out handle and use that. On balance I would rather have the carry handles retract tightly to the case and be a bit hard to use rather then hanging out to get caught on luggage handling conveyors and the bag ripped open. I think they might also relax a bit over time. The other less then perfect point on the carry handles is that they are closer to one side then the other because the bags essentially split into two equal halves when you open them, so when you first use the handles the bags feel a bit one sided weight wise--you get accustomed to it pretty fast so not a huge deal, and I am not sure they could have placed them any differently from a design and engineering perspective. The locks are very well thought out and work perfectly. Other then the very minor things I mentioned about the carry handles my wife and I simply love these bags. They are well made, well designed, hold more then enough stuff, roll very well, have a great pull out handle, and look amazing.

I ordered this 21" Aero Helium carry-on so I would have a size between my older style Delsey 19" international carry-on size and 25" medium checked size luggage. I've also seen the 25" medium checked case in this Aero Helium style which is very similar to mine. I like all of them. They are 100% polycarbonate which is strong but very lightweight. I ordered the cobalt blue which is a very dark blue. The dual spinner wheels roll very easily on all of them. They have side and top grab handles plus the adjustable trolley handle. They have TSA combination locks and another zipper which can expand the bag a couple of inches if needed. Each bag is divided into a slightly deeper bottom main section and a "lid" section. The bottom section has a compression strap and a zip pouch. In the 21" (can't recall about the 25") the zip pouch also has a small inner pocket good for holding an Airtag or other tiny item. There is a zip divider covering the lid section with a flat zip pocket on it. This flat zip pocket seems upside down (zipper at the bottom) but it isn't a problem. Note that as most luggage manufacturers also do, the given dimension is the measurement of only the case, NOT including the wheels and grab handle on top. These handles do lie flat on the Delsey. Add a couple of inches to get the actual total height. The 21" carry-on is actually about 22-23" tall including the wheels and the 25" case is actually about 27". This might matter for the carry-ons, depending on how strict the airline is being on any given day, as a couple of other reviews have mentioned. Many reviews say the Delsey carry-ons are fine on most USA carriers. If you want a carry-on with a separate accessible laptop section, you would need the smaller 19" international size carry-on Aero case. The photo compares the Aero 21" carry-on to my older style Delsey 19" international size carry-on. All my Delsey suitcases hold much more than it would appear. I like using packing cubes which hold items compactly and keep them from shifting. This 21" carry-on would easily hold a week's worth of clothing and accessories for me unless most were heavy winter clothing. I'm very pleased with this Delsey luggage and have had no problems with it so far.

I frequently travel for work, 1-3 nights at a time, and have been looking for a carry-on to meet all my needs. I am small (5'1") and needed a carry-on that was easy to wheel, luggage that essentially "propelled" itself, rather than me pushing or pulling on it. The ease of mobility was my #1 priority in choosing luggage. It is an ease to wheel around all surfaces, pushing on all 4s or pulling on 2 wheels behind you. All the reviews I read on this model, on Amazon, and several published reviews (Business Insider, Glamour, Forbes, etc) rated the wheels as excellent. Delsey seems to have a reputation as quality luggage at a great price. Below is a full review of features: - Mobility: top-rated. no matter how much I pack into this bag, it wheels itself everywhere. The next tier up in wheel-functionality would be 3-4x this price. - Space: when I first opened it, I was surprised and a little disappointed at how small it was. However, I have been able to pack 3 days worth of clothes, toiletries, 2-3 pairs of shoes and a curling iron. Again, I am small, so my clothes and shoes are small. If you are 5'10" + you will fit much less, especially shoes. For taller people, this is best used as a single night trip, or to carry business items. - Size: I haven't taken this on an international flight, but I've taken it on all size jets domestically. It fits fine in the overhead, and on the smaller planes needs to be tagged upon boarding (as any carry-on of this size would). - Accessibility: I love the front zip compartment. I had been carrying a hard-case single zipper carry-on, with my laptop and work items in a shoulder bag. The front zip compartment allows me to put my laptop, chargers, and other various items in an easy-access area, keeping my shoulder bag much lighter. - Handle: The handle does have a little bit of give. Several reviews say it is "loose" or not as sturdy as they'd like. While that is true, I believe this was designed to maximize space inside, by not building in hard walls around the handle. I've jam-packed this, and the handle has held up. While I can feel what people are referring to, I didn't feel like the handle was going to break at all. - Looks: I read a few reviews saying this showed dust easily, and wasn't quite sure what that meant. Let me clarify, the material is slick and shiny and shows lint, hair, dust very easily - think static cling. While this is somewhat annoying, for the functionality and ease of use at this price, it's not enough for me to take away a star. For all the research I did, I am more than happy with this carry-on. I purchased this to try out the Delsey Helium Aero series, and will be purchasing the entire set.

As a Woman Veteran of the Gulf War, U.S.A.F. I am impressed with the durability of this carry-on suitcase! I wasn't sure that it was up for the task, but it held its on within the small package. The outer-shell looks more like a burnt orange or rustic brown as oppose to the color red. The shell is hard and flexible at the same time. I had a recent trip and used it to pack 4 days of clothing with shoes and toiletries. On the way back home it was a little tight, due to the purchase of souvenirs, and I had to use the expansion zipper-worked out perfectly! Arrived at the airport in Miami and was told I couldn't get through the terminal gate if I didn't zip up the expansion on the Delsey carry-on. I had to have my daughter sit on it to make this happen and I thought the zipper was going to break, but it held strong, although I was using much force to close it the extra 2 inches, in the end it was a success and we were on our way. On the airplane the Delsey "JUST FIT" in the overhead. It would not have fit if the expansion was used. FYI, if you use the 2 inch expansion IT WILL NOT FIT on the DOMESTIC carry-on overhead compartment (I flew American Airlines-not sure if overhead space is standard on all domestic carriers). The inside of the Delsey is spacious and has nice secure fasteners on each side w/ 2 zippered stow away pouches on one side. The material on the inside of the Delsey is of nice quality fabric and the inside of the carry-on feels solid. The outer zippered storage area has two sleeves in a wedged space that can be used for a laptop, but only if your bag is not overpacked. If the bag is overpacked, the bulkiness of your items will interfere with the ability to close/zip the wedged area. Also, it's not a good idea to pack small items in the wedge, because when you unzip it, there are large holes at the bottom, where two wide elastic bands attach to the main case-thus making two large holes where small items can fall out if you open the case while in the upright position. I loved the roller wheels and its dexterity of motion. I was able to expand the carrying handle and push it, pull it, tow it, lean it, put other bags on top of it -tilt and move swiftly. No matter how you pull, the wheels will follow smoothly like a ballerina in a pirouette! It didn't get scraped nor damage by my aggressive smashing it into the overhead compartments and the second, short handle on top and on the side is very useful for lifting the Delsey into the over head! The heavier the case the more I encourage you to use these handles; they are sturdy, durable and up for the challenge. It also rained heavily (Hurricane "Depression") during my travels and the case did not leak nor appear wet (the rain rolled off the deep grooves on the outer shell), although I was drenched. This was my first trip with this suitcase and I'm now interested in getting the larger travel suitcase for 7 day trips! I'm very particular about spending my money to get quality items that complete the mission. I did much research before I purchased this case and I am very happy with the research! This is only the second time I've completed a review on an Amazon purchase and I've had many great purchases, but didn't feel the need to complete a review. It is time consuming and I'm not getting anything out of it-call me selfish. Anyway, I wholeheartedly recommend Delsey carry-on and took to time to let you know. Happy travels!
