This HDMI converter works for ROKU-3
I bought this device to connect my ROKU-3 to an older TV that doesn't have any HDMI ports - and it works! (both sound and video work fine.)I wanted to go ahead and buy a ROKU-3 for this TV because I knew the TV would need to be replaced in the not-too-distant future, and I wanted all my ROKU devices to be the same and I didn't want to have to settle for a ROKU with limited features just to get the appropriate connectivity built in.After researching how to do this on-line, I was to say the least underwhelmed with the available information on how to go about doing this, so when I found this device, which was advertised for the ROKU Stick, I thought there was a good chance it would work with any ROKU models sporting HDMI connections, so I took the chance and ordered one. Here is what I found:1) This converter works reasonably well with the ROKU-3, and should work with other ROKU models that have HDMI output.2) There is another "model" of this converter that comes with a USB 5-volt, 1-amp power supply, which is actually a better option for use with the ROKU-2 and ROKU-3. My understanding is that the inclusion of the power supply is the only difference between the two models.3) The video quality was pretty much what I expected, which is to say I was happy with it. Don't expect 1080p resolution. Also, the device compresses the aspect ratio of the incoming signal to fit the screen, as opposed to "clipping" the picture. Probably the most noticeable thing about picture quality is any text on the screen is a bit harder to read than if it were displayed in 1080p.4) The HDMI converter comes with a USB cable in order to provide power to the unit. My advice is to use it, but don't plug it into the ROKU for power. I tried using the converter without the power cable installed at all, and it worked just fine. I tried connecting the power cable to the HDMI converter and plugging it into the USB port on the ROKU-3 for power and it still worked fine. But in both cases I noticed that the ROKU-3 ran hot. I happened to have a USB 5-volt, 1-amp power adapter, so I used that to power the HDMI converter directly from a power outlet, but still using the USB cable that came with the converter. That configuration seems to work the best, but the ROKU still seems to run a bit hotter than my other one that doesn't need to go through the HDMI converter...5) Whatever HDMI Converter you buy, be sure it is HDCP compatible. If your converter doesn't include this security protocol, it won't be able to convert some of the video signals coming from the ROKU.This HDMI converter works reasonably well for ROKU-3. The fact that my ROKU-3 connected to this device seems to run a bit hotter than my ROKU-3 that connects directly to the TV does concern me. Time will tell...

Very nice converter to convert HDMI to Composite for legacy devices, can't go wrong for the price or even 4x the price
Overall I'm very impressed. The black level is very good, if not a tad dark(just a tad) but I much prefer this to other such converters and filters I've tried that really wash out the picture(due to I believe incorrect IRE) but this converter must have taken that into account. My only beef is a "somewhat noticeable" drop in resolution. I say somewhat because on my 52" HDTV I notice it's not as sharp as a native composite source but it's not bad and if one wasn't really looking for it, you may not notice, you'd probably never notice it on a SD CRT. Note I really prefer S-video which should give an even better picture than composite but I'm comparing the composite output of this converter(it doesn't have S-video) to native composite, not S-video.Overall I'd give it a 8 and for the very low price it could be a 9, I won't be returning mine.Note it's really meant for a Roku stick and uses the Roku USB power supply but I used mine from a DVD player with HDMI output so I just used a spare cell phone charger I had lying around(one that had a female USB socket on it) and the included neat power cord. It has a male USB on one end and a Micro USB(new Android cell phone standard) connector and Mini USB(old cell phone connector) on the other. The micro USB connector would go to your Roku stick and the mini USB connector goes to the converter. The converter also includes a rather nice 4' AV cable(yellow and red and white) RCA cables to hook the converter to your TV or DVDR's line input. And yes, it ignores any CP that may be present, I was able to easily record the output to my DVDR even though I was outputting a CP'd DVD. You'll need to provide your own HDMI cable.Note I found the best setting for my DVD player(source) was 1080i, 1080p was noticeably fuzzier than 1080i and 720p and 480p were the worst, my DVD player didn't have 480i over HDMI or I'd have tried that. Note this may differ if you use a different source, probably best to try all the resolutions you have available and see what works best for you.The very small converter is kind of nice in that if you don't provide it a signal it outputs color bars and says "no input signal". Once you give it a signal it tells you what resolution it is and tells you it's NTSC. It has a NTSC and PAL switch with PAL being 50hz, I only tested with 60hz or NTSC.I don't see how you could go wrong for the price, I've tested converters 4x the price that weren't any better, some worse!
