Truthful...Enlightening
This book is an exploration of the Acadians forced movement from Nova Scotia - with the majority ending up in newly formed Louisiana - shows that there were "slaves" and forced labor not only during the later issues in America's South... The British harsh forced expulsion of those French Canadians to other islands, back to France, Louisiana and other places...forced to leave their lands, homes etc that they had built...with many deaths - not only adults, but many children as well...during their forced journeys... That the divide caused by religious persecution, language, and the British desire for the Acadian lands...was forefront in causing misery to those Acadians expelled in some of the most horrid ways... Enlightening account...

Detailed and informative
This book captures a history that is little known, and presents it in an easily readable form reminiscent of the great history storyteller, Shelby Foote. The author is clearly exhaustive in researching the story of the Acadian Resistance by the details included that equally present the big picture in the Anglo-Franco global war as well as the local issues and details. Masterful work!

Highly recommend for anyone who is interested in learning about our Acadian history and the heroes who resisted British occupation. This should be required reading in our Maritime schools...

Excellent
This is a historical account of those first settlers in Canada who came from France and turned a hostile land into a thriving farming community. Instead of fighting with the Native Micmac people, they learned and worked with these people, until the British arrived. The land of Nova Scotia changed hands many times, but the Acadian people held fast to the ideals of neutrality. They would swear allegiance to the King, but refused to raise arms against British enemies, their old forefathers, France.Exasperated, the British overlords took matters in their own hands and expelled over 10,000 people to locations scattered across the globe, separating families and communities. In this book, the entire of the expulsion and those who sought to combat the horrible and illegal strategy is expressed so that the Acadian, French, and the British sides are shown equally. From this perspective, once can ask if the hostilities helped or hindered the decisions of that day. Excellent historical account.
