The right tool for the job!
I have traditionally gotten cheap tools simply for the price, and sometimes I do ok. Sometimes I don't. I have a couple of old Radio Shack soldering irons that have been adequate for most jobs, but not this time. I had to repair an instrument cluster in my vehicle, and I didn't want to risk damaging it and costing more money than necessary. I have known Weller irons since high school, through college, and into industry. They consistently perform to specifications, and this iron did not disappoint. A couple of key features I needed were the ability to maintain even temperature, and the ability to change tip sizes to match the job. The iron performed flawlessly. The one thing that might make this iron better would be to include a couple of basic tip sizes in the original package. As it is, I had to purchase a smaller tip separately. So, you may ask whether or not you need to buy as expensive of an iron as this when there are a couple more available for as low as in the teens. Even Weller has a red series that is about half the cost of the blue series. I have often found that the right tool does as much for the quality of my work as my skill level. Sure, if you are just learning to solder and not risking ruining something expensive like an instrument cluster, etc., probably not. I used cheaper Radio Shack irons for years with decent results. However, I definitely felt as if I had more control over the solder joint than I would have with my other iron. A stray solder bridge to another component would ruin my circuit board and cost many times the cost of the Weller iron. Sometimes it's just worth it. UPDATE APRIL 2017: I recently attempted to perform some repair work on a tv, and found that the 35 watt Weller had a little difficulty melting newer ROHS solder. I have an ST 7 tip on it, and I had to add some 60-40 solder to it to get the other stuff to melt. A little tough, but it worked.

Weller is the standard
After looking at the crappy offerings in home improvement stores, I chose this one. Needed something a little hotter than my 25W Wellers. This one even uses the same tips. You really can't go wrong with Weller. It is 3 conductor cord so the thing is grounded, a nice safety feature to protect me and the equipment I'm working on. I found it had adequate heat to do what I intended, and the unit should last a long time. My other Wellers range in are from 10 years to recent. All still alive and working well. Amazon got this to me quickly, ordered mid week and on my door step on Sunday, which was nice. Weller costs a bit more, but you get a quality product. I am very happy with this purchase, hence the 5*.

Works great, odd tip
I just replaced a 10 year old Radio Shack 40 watt with this WP35. The stores in my area only carries the budget model Weller though, so I had to mail order this. Very interesting was that this iron is WAY hotter than my old 40 watt. Solder melts instantly and predictably. Very nice. Being used to a smaller size one I find it actually kind of chunky to hold and use though. One criticism is that it comes with a single chisel-type tip. I find this unusable for small circuit board work, wish it came with a pencil tip.

Excellent product, great longevity
When deciding what soldering iron to get, I read a review for this item that recommended paying for quality once. That was nearly 2 years ago and I'm happy to report that this iron is still going strong. Whether I need it on a daily basis or have it put up for a month or two between uses, it consistently heats up quickly, maintains a good, constant temperature and has performed at or above my expectations every time. You might want to invest in an ST7 or ST8 conical tip with this iron for more precision work, but the chisel tip it comes with is great for all-purpose soldering and I've successfully soldered leads to pads using it. Follow the advice I did and pay for quality once -- you won't regret it.

Well known name
I used adjustable temp Weller at work for several years back on the 1990s. When they replaced an old Weller with a newer model, I got to take the old one home. I used the old one for 15 years, until it finally failed. I really didn’t want to buy an expensive Adjustable Weller, so I bought the cheap 15-$20 stuff onAmazon. They last one year. I decided to spend the money on a single temp(watt) Weller, I love it. Easy to hold and control, quality is just like it was 25 years ago. Even the small stuff like the power cord is high quality. Well worth the money

Melts Solder and Skin In Seconds!
Can you pickup a cheaper soldering iron? Yes. Is it blue? Yes. Will it burn the hell out of you? Also yes, but probably not as fast as this quality tool from Weller. This tool will have you soldering connections and reaching for the burn cream thanks to a great heat-up time and a comfortable grip. If you plan to do more than just occasionally soldering and are a masochist with a burn fetish, you'll probably want to invest in a station with adjustable temp, like the nicer Wellers or a Hakko, but this works great in a tool bag or for more-than-average hobby work.

Well worth the money in my opinion
Had this on my list for quite a while. Bought this and a solder 'sucker' both worked really well. I had doubts about the power rating, at 35w thought it might be a bit low. Also wondered how fine the tip. I didn't want a needle tip and I wasn't disappointed. Tip was perfect, iron feels well made and looks like it should last. Always had these in the tech lab so knew what to expect. Great iron, I switched out a bad phono connector on my fender amp without any problems and this iron got the solder melted easily. Very pleased. Next I plan to resolder my guitar pick guard electronics...

Great soldering iron
This iron is an excellent product and I am more than happy with it. The U.S. Army includes this exact iron in their electronics technicians kits, I know because I am a biomedical equipment technician in the U.S. Army. If these can withstand the abuse that numerous soldiers can dish out (they definitely can), then I want one in my toolbox. They reach temperature fast, there are many tips available for them, and they are built to last and be rebuilt. A great iron to start out with and it'll definitely last you years and years. Excellent feel in hand, very comfortable, I have no complaints.

It would be okay ....but
I bought this because of previous experience with Weller tools: somewhat expensive but bullet proof quality. The problems with this purchase were all down to the supplier performance from Standbyon. The goods were delivered from Germany which one would normally expect to receive within 2 weeks - despite the delivery estimate on 15-30 days on the site. In the event delivery was late at more than 32 days (I was away when it actually arrived) and did not include, as described, the US step down plug to enable the 110 volt product to be used in the UK. It was therefore unusable and Standbyon were unable to commit to supply the necessary converter. They have however agreed to a full refund.
