Is there a way to turn it off other than taking the battery out?

No. The realistic effect of the dog breathing in and out can only be turned off by taking out the battery.

Come off the bed? Yes it does. You need to replace the battery by opening up from the bottom of the dog.

It comes in a box with the puppy of course. A bed to place the puppy in and a birth certificate of the puppy as well. 🙂
