Sturdy and powerful fan, don't let the plastic assembly fool you.
So, I'm using this fan as part of my custom built ventilation system in my basement room converted to a cigar room. I use it to suck the cigar smoke out through the window via the 6 inch hose and some ducting that goes out. I use it in conjunction with a duct fan that's hooked onto the HVAC ducting that acts as an intake fan for the same room. What I like.1. The speed controller comes attached. No need to purchase one separately.2. Durable. I had a mishap where I accidentally dropped it from 7 feet to a concrete floor. No problems, turned it on and fired right up. It's plastic on the outside, but the fan itself has some good heft to it.3. Powerful. This thing cleans out a room fast. You can watch the smoke going from the cigar a good distance away in the room as it goes right to the area of the fan. What I don't like:1. This thing is loud. But, that's the compromise. If you want a proper fan that will do the job, noise will be on the table. That all said, it's not loud enough to drown out conversation or music on a small speaker in the room. Further, it's powerful enough to run on low and still keep the room clear with one or two cigar smokers. In all, this being part of my ventilation system saved me hundreds of dollars by not buying a rabbit, or any other overpriced smoke eater. Good price, quality fan.

Quiet fan, working well for me so far, adjustable speed works fine with variac speed controller.

Noisy / Not Properly Balanced Impeller/ 4yr Life? New models wt better motor?
I just recently (06/25) replaced the fan unit from this kit that I purchased here on Amazon July 26, 2021. The complete kit was on sale for what is normally the price for just the fan - $59.49.From the beginning, the blower unit showed enough vibration that I couldn't use the included wall mount and had to resort to laying it on a cushioning bag of fiberfill on the top of the grow tent as a vibration damper. I needed the clearance inside the enclosure, so although hanging it may (or may not have) transmitted the vibration from the unit through the frame as badly as it did through the wall bracket, it wasn't an option.Laying on the fiberfill, the noise was reduced to a tolerable level, and the unit ran 24/7 at full RPM for just-a-month-shy of a full 4 years. Running the blower with the intake hose removed the imbalance of the impeller and the amount of deflection from centered was clearly visible. Still, there was enough clearance between the red impeller and the venturi that this did not interfere with the function of the unit. At 195 CFM, it has good suction and air could be felt processing through the filter on the exhaust end. However, starting at the beginning of 2025 the fan suffered from reduced RPM / CFM and sounded strained. I regularly clear the intake impeller of any airborne particulates that might accumulate on the impeller blade edges, so I removed the intake venturi and the white center screw to unmount the blade. The blade itself was free of accumulate. The shaft of the motor, on the other hand, was difficult to turn. The motor in question in my July 2021 model does not look like the current depictions that suggest a multi-field induction or EC motor. I recognize the motor as a variant of the type of small wire wound motor that had been used for decades in household refrigerators to circulate the air in and from the freezer. These motors are ideal in a sub-freezing environment as the motors and bearings are literally cooled by the freezer environment. As such they could run for 10-20 years before the bearings run dry or wear - and even then, I have 'resurrected' many that were seized or binding by re-oiling with lightweight synthetic oil at the bearing endcaps. In the case of the VivoSun motor, it was run in non-refrigerated environment. The bearings were thirsty and did bring back the RPMs upon replenishment, but the imbalanced impeller had also worn the actual sleeved bearing and shaft surfaces so that the amount of deflection, now caused the freely spinning fan to strike the inside of the plenum -resulting in chattering at full speed and dramatic vibration at reduced speeds.I have seen a number of others complain about this fan (even as separate from this complete kit). Unless the manufacturer has corrected the balance issue with the red intake impeller, and replaced the refrigerator evaporator style motor with something more substantial, noise / vibration will be an issue along with potential early replacement.I chose to try a 4" Vevor EC motor fan unit for about the same pricepoint and so far it is immediately quieter with no significant vibration. It also uses less than half (23w) of the power of this one (59w). Since I also have extensive experience with major household appliances using EC motors, I know that the motor control circuitry is a weak point so it will remain to be seen if it will outlast the nearly 4 years life of this unit - but it's already worth it in how quietly it moves its 205CFM vs 195 from this noisier unit.

Makes the upstairs so much more comfortable!
Installed in-line on a 6-inch HVAC duct to increase airflow to the second floor bedrooms due to too cold in winter/too hot in summer issues.Pros: super easy to install- 45 minutes or less if you’re handy- longer if in a tight or confined space. Very inexpensive fix if you have an upstairs that is too hot/too cold due to poor HVAC volume on upper floors.Cons: really not any. Since sound travels in the ductwork he may consider it loud, however it’s about the same as having a fan running in your room. This is the ideal model if you’re trying to push more air to a bedroom. If you plan to install yourself, buy yourself BOTH left AND right handed tin-snips to cut out the duct work you plan to install it in. Note you can also cut into ductwork with a utility knife, though only recommended for initial cut. Connect the ends with flashing tape to make things easy.I bought this model to duct to all the upstairs bedrooms (4) and now it’s like an icebox up there in the summer. Running our central air no more than before we’ve managed lower the upstairs temperatures by 10 degrees easily- making it so much easier to sleep. I was originally going to upgrade the central air, but that was a multi thousand dollar change – this was in much better solution.Note- install these as close to the blower as possible- ideally right off the trunk line. Also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED- buy and connect to smart plugs that you can control via app or google home/Alexa. That will allow you to easily turn on and off without having to go to the basement every time you want to turn them on/off, and also allows you to set them to a timer through an app so you don’t have to run them all the time. I only run them from 7-9 at night when the A/C begins to cool the house for the evening.

Great kit that does the job!
I bought 2 of these kits since I caught one on sale. I do not regret buying either kit.The fan instantly helped me keep my temps and humidity in check in a small room and a 5x5 tent. Even on low the exhaust fan sucks in the walls of my tent (I need to add an inlet fan to fix this). The carbon filter does a great job at keeping the smell down in both the room and the tent. There is literally no smell at all on the other side of the door or tent. The only 2 things I could complain a little about is that the fan is a little loud and they should have included a 3rd hose clamp in the kit. Even on low, there is no way someone is going to walk in a room with your tent and exhaust running and not wonder what the noise is.Overall this is a great kit and well worth the money. Don't expect it to be whisper quiet and pickup an extra 6" hose clamp before you try to install it and I think you'll be very happy with this kit.

Good but LOUD
I purchased the blower to boost A/C air flow to my upstairs bedroom. instead of putting it in the duct, I simply put it in my bedroom to pull the air. Even though the house has 6" ducts, I purchased the 8" blower to move more air. and it does move the air. I considered buying a second A/C for my bedroom, but this was a cheaper solution and probably better than running a smaller less efficient A/C. I have it on a temp control switch and it works great.I used to have to set the first floor to 68 degrees to get my bedroom to 74. I HATED freezing all summer only to allow my wife to sleep at night. Now, it keeps my bedroom 1-2 degrees cooler than the first floor. it's awesome. However, it is loud. Very loud. Even at the lowest setting it's loud. it's impossible to keep it on when I'm in the room. Even when I'm downstairs, it's loud--although you only really notice how loud when it turns off, and you can enjoy the quiet.Fortunately, cools my bedroom off so well, that when I retire, I simply turn it off for the night.ADDITION 2 YEARS LATERFan is still working very well. I think it might be slightly less loud.

Great service
I didn't install it in my grow cabinet until about six weeks after receiving and everything went great. The day after I fired it up the motor started to get noisy on low with a hearty vibration on high. I emailed customer support and after a few days they refunded that portion so I could order a new one with no down-time, and I really appreciate a company that stands behind their product. The install would have been straightforward except that I was mounting it in an 18" x 24" cabinet (doing my first grow on the cheap!) but it all fit with some creativity. Tip - be careful how you mount the fan especially because in my case I had a tough time getting it back out to troubleshoot, but for most setups it should all be a snap. All the mounting hardware is included and solid and no matter how high-quality the design is a percentage will have an issue, so to me the noise was no big deal since they took care of it. Five stars, Vivosun!
