Question 1

Is this crate/kennel IATA ?Airline cargo approved with a 65lb. mutt?

Accepted Answer

Definitely need to check with your airline about whether they will carry the larger sized crates. Tall skinny dogs will often require very large crates (our 50-pound standard poodle is 30+ inches tall and therefore requires an XXL crate!), but most airlines will only accommodate such large crates on wide body aircraft. Given that most US air travel today is by narrow body planes pursuant to hub & spoke networks, transporting large (or even just tall) dogs by air can be tricky!

Question 2

is it bolted

Accepted Answer

3/16th inch 10-24. That will get you to the hardware store to buy bolts and nuts. These are carriage bolts by the way.

Question 3

What does the crate weigh empty?

Accepted Answer

Information from http://www.pettravelcenter.com/products/detail/339/59:Petmate Sky Kennel Dog Crate (lots of info at this website!)Sizes and breed recommendations, according to the manufacturerSmall = 21"L x 16"W x 15"H (Cats, Toy Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Chihuahuas, Shih Tzus) - For pets up to 15 lbs. (Actual Crate Weight: 51.5 lbs.)*Lg, XLg and Giant have 4-point locking door for added security*Med, Intermediate, Lg, XLg have tie down holes in corners for tying down in trucks or trailers*Small and Medium have handles, larger sizes do notVisual size/feature comparison: http://www.dogsupplynetwork.com/petmate-sky-kennel.htmlI have the X-Large 70-90 pds and really love it. It is like a mini-room for my 60 pd. puppy. The lock is secure yet simple to operate. Well ventilated with windows on all sides and tall enough for my dog to stand comfortably. I would not hesitate to recommend it. (Have not used it for airline travel-only as a home kennel) Update: My dog is now 88 pounds (german shepherd/border collie) and extremely muscular. He has not defeated the latch system. Plenty of room for him to stand and move within the crate. Fourteen months old and Kennel looks and functions just as it did on day one. I am purchasing a second one for my golden retriever puppy.

Question 4

Is this kennel FAA approved

Accepted Answer

Absolutely 100% FAA approved. This is THE airline create used all over the world. With that said, you should still check with your individual airline as they each seem to have their own rules and can vary depending on the type of aircraft being used for the particular flight.
