Great Kennel, Don't Follow Size Guidelines
Absolutely great kennel. I love 'em so much I have 3 (now 4! Amazon had a great deal on one as I started writing this review) one for each of my dogs. Simple, easy and functional design. Front gate can easily be removed when not needed. Weight guide may be a little misleading. Err on the side of bigger when purchasing, especially if you're planning on using these as daily/overnight crates for your dog. My 35-lbs pit bull fits in the 50-70 lbs crate. She can stand up and turn around without too much of an issue, but it'd be too small for her as an overnight crate. My two Boston Terriers are between 15-20 lbs. They can fit in the 30-50 lbs crate, but it's a tight fit. OK for travel but not ideal for overnight. Measure your dog first before you buy and ignore the weight ranges. Keep in mind the measurements on this kennel are to the outside edges, not interior space. Deduct about 4 inches in width and length to account for the plastic lip used to secure both halves of the kennel together. Only quip I have is that it is a little difficult lining up some of the screws when putting the kennel together. Not a big issue, but a little frustrating at first if you've never put one of these together. You might need to use a little brute force. It's OK. You did follow the instructions correctly and had to resort to brute force because you needed to.

Pup loves his crate!
We actually bought two of these. One for the bedroom and one for the living room. Pup sleeps and takes nap in it all the time. Nice and roomy and vent holes provide good circulation. We had no issues putting the crate together. Also really like that the door can open from the left or the right. Has come in handy a few times, especially when we put the crate in the car for some small trips. One note, do keep in mind the dimensions are how it measures on the outside with those little edges sticking out. So we did need to go up a size larger than what we thought. We kept the original for the bedroom since pup will just be sleeping all the time in that, but felt we should get one size up for when he may need more room.

Decent value
This crate does its job well, and I like that the door allows you to easily open the door from either side. Unlike many crates the open latches are much easier, with a plastic twist knob that's easier to use for people with less strength or precision in their hands. The crate is nice and roomy, check the measurements twice before buying! I got the 10-20 based on height recommendations, but I don't think those were the most accurate because my dog is 6 lbs but 8 inches tall and I can't imagine the smallest one wouldn't have been best suited for him, he probably has 3-4 inches over his head. Just the same, he hasn't had any accidents, so I'm going to keep the larger one. He's pretty fond of it as well. The downside: I feel like there could be more bolts to secure around the edges. I bought this because I thought it would be suited for airline travel, and upon inspecting it, while I feel like the door is much more sturdy than you would normally find, I'm not entirely sure the rest would pass muster for the airlines. It does look slightly cheap, in my opinion, even though it is well made - that doesn't bother me, but it might some. For everyday use, it's great though.

NICE. Sturdy, Roomy, Very Easy to Assemble, Easy to Clean. Accurate Sizing and Practical Design Makes Crate Training A Snap
These kennels are my favorite by far. Super easy to assemble, and sturdy. The dogs love them, they are easily cleaned. You can take them apart and pressure wash them once in a while, and they are like new again. I find their sizing to be accurate, so just choose the kennel that corresponds with your dog's weight. I'm a foster so I've had many types of dogs come and go through these crates. The design is much appreciated. The dogs seem to feel safer in these than they do in the open wire type. I'd say I get way more cooperation in crate training when using this style, probably because it's more like a den than the open wire. Very nice, study, and reasonably priced (because they last).

crate is ok but it is NOT easy to put together; do not believe vid here!
What put me over the top to choose this one was the video here that demonstrated how the thing fit together. Folks, the woman must have had silicone salve on those halves to make them slip together so easily! My assembly did NOT work that way! (And I've assembled a bunch of dog crates in my life!) The latch(es) on the back do not lift very easily. I was afraid I was going to break them off; the plastic is pretty flimsy. When it became apparent that I couldn't assemble the crate without opening the latches, I used a screwdriver to give them a little nudge, and they popped open enough for me to get my fingertip under them. After half-a-dozen (I lost count!) attempts to slide the top and bottom halves together (my allotment of colorful language was exhausted), I got a semblance of a crate. It was still not totally correct, but I used the Marine Corps method. Now the screws and wing nuts.... Note that the holes are square; the screws are round. Work from the underside and give the screw head a good whack with a stout hammer (Semper Fi!). This will force the round screw into the square hole, and then it's easy to twist it thru by hand. There no slot in the screw, so you can't use a screwdriver. Wing nut (on top) went on with ease. Extra screw and wingnut included. Kudos there. There was a slight alignment problem, as noted. I couldn't get the top and bottom of the crate married perfectly (should've had some of that silicone stuff, huh?), so the square holes did not line up 100%, which made screw insertion even more of a party. If you have some washers, you could use two on each corner (one on the underside at screw head and one on the top side at the wingnut). This allows you to take advantage of the two large -round- holes where the top and bottom of the crate were wire-tied together for shipping and thus leave your hammer and a bit of your vocabulary in your toolbox. Let us now talk about the door! You have to turn the two handles (those are the black rectangles at nine and three o'clock on the picture) in opposite directions (toward each other) so that you can attach the door. While holding the handles in the turned position, somehow insert the top 2 and bottom 2 ends of the latch rods simultaneously. Doing the bottom, say, and then the top doesn't work because when you try to get the top ends of the rods in place, the bottom ends have wandered out. Let me note that the silver lip thingie (six o'clock) must be snapped into place before you begin the challenge of the handles and rod; otherwise, no go. Oh, yes: try not to pinch your fingers. Are we having fun yet? Note that there is no top opening; nor is there a handle. The plastic is not very robust, either. I would not purchase another of these. (Try Pet Porter.) Fits my mini poodle well, however (20 lbs., 15" at shoulder). Ok for a standard poodle puppy. A small Sheltie would fit, as would a beagle, very small Border Collie, or a couple of friendly cats. mb

Demon Wrangler 2000
This kennel is a family favorite. They aren’t sold at PetSmart or Petco, the two reigning chains in our area. Personally, I have a half velociraptor half cat breed that weighs about 11 pounds. She doesn’t prefer tight spaces not of her choosing. However, this kennel has been perfect for her! We put in a towel at the bottom and a lovely soft spooky blanket for her to hide under with a few mouse toys and voila! Contained tiny demon. I would like to note that there is not a top door for my feline owners out there, but don’t let that discourage you. The door opens on either side and is perfect for a stockier predator of the night. Our canine companion will sniff around every now and again, and for a Frenchie, he fits very well! Although, white and black doesn’t suite him quite as well. The beauty of color options. Overall, would very highly recommended this kennel for a first time critter owner or a seasoned animal wrangler.

Design Disaster and Poorly Made
I've used Petmate kennels for many years, and have always found them sturdy and well-designed. But their new Compass line of kennels is a total disaster…. in both design and execution. Design problems: This new Compass design adopts a different approach to securing the top half to the bottom. Instead of setting the top in place and securing it with built in clips, you now have to set the top onto the bottom and slide it forward about 3 inches into place. The biggest problem is that there are 6 plastic guide slots (6 on the smallest kennel -- 8 on the larger ones) that have to be lined up correctly in order for the top to slide into place correctly. If they're not in perfect position, the top won't fit right. And it is very hard to get all 6 guides in the right position while sliding the top into place. (You've only got two hands!) This basic design flaw is exacerbated by the fact that the kennel is more cheaply made than it used to be (see below). Another design issue is the need to use metal screws and plastic nuts to secure the top after it has been slid in place. The old snap-clip design was so much better -- easy to use and no small parts to get lost. It is difficult and time consuming to take the kennel apart and reassemble it. One positive design feature: the new double-pivot door is easy to use and versatile. Execution flaws: The first thing you notice is that the kennel is considerably flimsier than the old ones -- thinner plastic, easily distorted out of its proper shape. This is also an assembly problem: because the plastic is so much thinner, the sides of two halves (especially the bottom) tend to be warped out of their proper shape. This makes the assembly process (see above) much, much harder as you have to push the sides into their proper position while sliding the top, so that the guide slots line up correctly. Only two hands, remember? Quality control is poor: my new kennels were missing one of the metal screws (there were 3, should be 4). In summary, I strongly suggest buying somebody else's kennel.

Nice and sturdy small kennel
Perfect size for my little chihuahua. She likes smaller kennels to cozy up in versus the bigger ones but shes only 3 lbs. its very secure once put together but make sure all 3 tabs on each side are in the correct position when sliding it together.

Fast shipping, great crate
Size is perfect. Everything packaged nicely. The only negative is that there were only 4 screws in the package but there are 6 butterfly nuts. It seems to be secure with just the 4 screws but there is room for one more.
