OEM Quality
This Briggs and Stratton carburetor primer base was an exact fit and cured the fuel primer problem I had with my 14 year old engine. The plastic base becomes warped due to engine heat and no longer allows the primer bulb to pump fuel. Then the engine will not start. This part solved my engine starting problem.

Smarter buy than just replacing the bulb since hassle free for proper air channel clearance on older engine parts
after changing in isolation only the bulb and the gasket, still no success with primer working. Once I bought and installed this complete unit (far cheaper than individual components), worked like a charm so there must have been an invisible crack in the old housing or some warping. This OEM bulb works better than the replacement OEM bulb I bought separately and you don't have to fuss with the cleaning where the old bulb sat. Note there are torque specs in the instructions (2 different specs unfortunately 30 vs 45 inch pounds) that ideally should be followed so the air channel isn't crushed (if no inch-pound torque wrench available just go easy when tightening the 2 screws near the gasket. See youtube videos for importance of the air channel not being crushed (and the doubling-of-gasket-solution that did not work for me). Unit came with gasket, the breather tube, and bulb all installed. 10 minute replacement. No brainer to buy this unit rather than just the bulb unless you burn through bulbs (mine lasted 19 years). No modification required for 6hp toro push mower but instruction indicated some installations required filing of plastic.

The cure!
After rebuilding the carb on an old snapper lawnmower that I bought, the engine ran great except for the fact that I had to take the air filter off and spray starting fluid on every cold start and almost all warm starts. So it got real annoying everytime someone had to stop me from mowing to tell me something. I read somewhere that this plate was more than likely the problem and after installing it, it cranks after a few pumps of the primer bulb. The fact that it comes with a primer bulb and carb gasket makes it a fair value considering the way lawn equipment will nickel and dime you to death!

Fit and works perfectly .
A little pricey but when you need it you need it. Its OE.

Some modification had to be made to fit my mower but it wasn't overly complicated and it works great... and looks good too.
It worked fine, I didn't know before hand that I would have to trim this but the directions explains what to do, you trim the cable bracket piece off, I thought it was a straight from the box to the mower no modifications part, you may have to remove the primer bulb also, I had some trouble getting the little primer bulb out even though the directions to remove it are simple and straight forward. Use a lot of Caution cutting and trimming this up including the primer bulb, it's not hard at all to slip and cut yourself pretty bad, sometimes you might say ah I won't cut myself but I have found out numerous times that was a bad idea, Emergency Room visits aren't cheap and they are usually very busy.. One thing that I did was use a hacksaw blade on part of it, didn't have my coping saw with me, and I got the bright idea to use my hand pruners to trim some of the excess plastic off and it worked pretty good for part of it.

Good Quality
Had a no priming situation on my mower and after trying various fixes nothing worked. I ordered this and put it on and it resolved the problem.

This part really works. Be careful not to over tighten the screws holding it on.
I bought a different one of these that wasn't Briggs and it didn't work. This one worked. However I read that you should be careful with tightening the screws holding it in place as this can warp the plastic seal with the gasket. So on this one I was careful and didn't torque it too much. The other one may have been OK but I used a ratchet wrench and torqued it a lot, so may damaged it. Anyway put this one on and it's magic. Three pushes on the bulb and one easy pull and it always starts. You can tell if it's going to work by looking at the little tube inside the carb. When you push the primer it should spray gas in the carb. You can see the tube by removing the air filter, this will expose the inside of the carb.

Saved Me From Replacing A Carburetor
I have a Snapper Hi Vac that had needed many extra pumps on the primer to start. However, when I couldn't start it one day, I began to worry that I needed to replace the carburetor. So, I ordered a cheap carb, but I also remembered that when I had removed and cleaned the old primer base, the carb's gasket was in crummy shape. I put the control on "Prime" and pumped the primer bulb and sure enough - there was no fuel begin shot through. I first put a new gasket on, but that didn't work. I then removed the primer base, put the new gasket on top of the gasket in the new base and installed it. I pushed the primer bulb and - TA-DA! Fresh fuel! The mower cranked up instantly! Let this serve as a lesson to others - start with the less-invasive repairs FIRST! And check to see if your primer is working. Frankly, considering how cheap this part is, I'll never try to replace a primer bulb again. It's a huge pain and can be time-consuming. Now, I have a new carburetor still in the box that I'll keep sealed "just in case".
