what structure is the lid? looks like a thin piece of metal wrap by a band?

I have two of these. Just like most mason jars it has a two part lid. A thin top and a metal band that screws it on.

can you pour boiling water in this to make hot tea with an infusion tube

If the jar is room temperature, you should not have any problem pouring boiling water into the jar. They are made to withstand above-boiling-point temperatures for canning purposes. If you were to have a very cold jar, the temperature difference might cause the jar to fracture.
