Daily Geography Practice is aligned to National Geography Standards and the six essential elements of geography: The world in spatial terms Places and regions Physical systems Human systems Environment and society Uses of geography How it works MondayโFriday: There are two geography questions for each day of the week, and the questions progress in difficulty from Monday to Friday. Each week includes a challenge question at the end of the unit. Grade 3 Daily Geography includes 36 weekly units, and each weekly unit includes: A teacher page with unit overview and answer key. A Vocabulary list to highlight key geography terms. A map page that emphasizes the geography skills for the week. Question pages with two geography questions for each day of the week, plus a weekly challenge question. Bonus! A 10-page reproducible geography glossary is included for students to use as an easy reference booklet throughout the year. The geography skills presented at grade 3 include: globes compass roses map keys map grids and indexes map scales physical state maps road maps historical and cultural landmark maps population and product maps tourist and weather maps regions of the United States political maps of the United States, North America, and the world Review: ~~ A 3rd grade geography curriculum focused on the US states ~~ - Mostly studying the US states, this Grade 3 Daily Geography book builds on the skills learned in the earlier levels. Very early on (Week 4) it brings in the intermediate directions of northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest. If you are looking for a geography book that studies different parts of the world then this is NOT for you! There are 5 lessons per week (Monday thru Friday) with each day having 2 questions that require a written answer. At the end of the week there is an extra challenge. Sometimes our kids do more than one lesson a day as they really enjoy this curriculum. PLEASE NOTE that the Daily Geography books are set up for classroom use and printed expecting you to photocopy the student's pages. What do I mean by this? Each week there is a "Teacher's Page" which includes not only the answers but also some information to help the teacher teach the students along with some useful vocabulary. If you are a homeschooler using this product, like us, you will not want to just hand your child this book as the temptation to cheat will be WAY too strong. My advice is to tear out all the perforated pages and only photocopy the pages your child needs. (We use a 3 ring binder to put ours in.) This way, you still have the original book for your next child thus saving you money. As a family we LOVE this curriculum and highly recommend it. Review: I've been looking for something like this! - This is an excellent book for classroom use! The maps are great and very appropriate for third graders. They are clear and easy to read. My favorite thing is that there are overhead maps already included with the book. This saves me the time of making them to use with the lessons. Each map will be used for a week of geography learning. There are 2 questions per day for each map and a challenge question at the end of the week that requires students to extend their learning with the map of the week. I can't wait to use this in my classroom!

Learning about the US is fun!
I am using a lot of the Spectrum books for home-schooling and love them. They allow the kids to go at their own pace, but add depth you don't find in a lot of workbook-style books. Each section involves "thinking" rather than fill-in-the-blank-type answers. My daughter loves this book. It attacks the US by region after first teaching map skills (map key, compass rose, waterways, etc.) Each chapter is broken down into a few introductory paragraphs about the week's topic, a map illustration, and daily assignments that are not too difficult and allow jumping off points for discussion or, in our case, she loves to go it on her own.

Good Geography Basics
We used this book for homeschool geography for 3rd grade, and looked forward to doing this every day. The only reason that I do not give this book 5 stars is because my son says that he can't remember much of what he learned in this book, and he usually remembers facts. Because of this, we found that the book needs to be supplemented with a globe, maps, and whatever other resources we have, to make it as interesting and memorable as possible. The book alone does an excellent job of teaching many geography basics, such as cardinal and intermediate directions, and we are much further along than we would be without it. We like it enough that we are now doing Daily Geography for 4th grade, and plan to continue the series.

Great format for maps learning and spatial awareness along with descriptions
We use this book so my son can learn words for every day speech and his spaces awareness around him. I think this is the third book of this format and geography that we have bought and we have loved all of them.

... using this as a homeschooling workbook and did not like that the answer key is right in from of ...
Exactly what I was hoping for - I did not realize I received the Teachers addition - I am using this as a homeschooling workbook and did not like that the answer key is right in from of the lesson. Would have preferred a student edition - would have liked better description of being a teachers' manual. Other than that it has great planned out organized approach.

Perfect for Social Studies small groups!
I use these in my 3rd grade social studies classes. Specifically, I use these in small groups and allow students to work together on these skills. These are great for reviewing as well!

Great resource
We use this, like many other readers, as our geography curriculum. We do a weeks worth of lessons once or twice a week and it doesn't take much time, but helps develop some good basic geography skills. The only thing I don't love is that the answer key is on the "teachers page" and that the teachers page is written to be read by the teacher, not just written directly to the student (as it's so simple! there's really no reason for this!). But it hasn't been a problem, really. The book is also reproducible which makes it economical if you are using it for more than one child.

It's a wonderful resource.
It's a wonderful resource. It does have a heavy focus on American geography. It is easy to use and has great teacher notes in the margins.
