I believe that you will deeply benefit from joining Dr. Lipski on this journey toward digestive wellness.” ―Patrick Hanaway, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Genova Diagnostics; President, American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine “For anyone who has an interest in truly understanding how the gut works or is just interested in finding ways to optimize quality of life during the aging process, Digestive Wellness, 4th Edition is a must read.” ―Jeffrey Moss, D.D.S., CNS, DACBN, Moss Nutrition “Liz Lipski explains digestion in a most appetizing and personal way. Even better than the last edition, Liz updates her understanding and ours. Everyone with a digestive tract has a need to know what Dr. Lipski synthesizes so well.” ―Russell M. Jaffe, M.D., Ph.D., CCN, founder, ELISA/ACT Biotechnologies, LLC, and Perque, LLC “Dr. Lipski has written an easy-to-read and highly informative book that will help the general population and practitioners alike understand what the problem is and how to treat it. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn more about the intimate relationship between our digestion and our health.” ―Marcelle Pick, RNC, M.S.N., OB/GYN NP Review: This book has saved my life and sanity, and no I'm not exaggerating. - Very informative, excellent information. Our digestive tracts and microbiome are so very important to our health, more so than even the 'experts' expected. More is being learned about how it effects our over all health every day. This book explains it all in an easily understandable way. Has information on so very many health conditions, just look at the index, I am sure you will find what you are looking for there. Also contains information on important diagnostic tests that I have not seen anywhere else, and comparisons of labs, very helpful indeed. If you have or think you might have: fibromyalgia, Celiac disease, Metabolic syndrome, Chronic Fatigue, Migraine Headaches, Depression, bi-polar, diabetes or any number of other serious health conditions and 'modern' medicine is not helping you, then you need this book. This is about 'Functional medicine' that treats our whole bodies and over all health instead of just putting a band-aid on symptoms. If you feel like cr@p, are just surviving day to day, wondering what new symptom will strike next or what awful side effect your latest Rx will have, then this book is for you. It will help you find your way back to feeling good again, to living a normal life again. It certainly did me ! Review: an extremely informative and important read.. - For those who want to learn about how diet and one's digestive tract can impact one's overall health then this book is an absolute must. 'Digestive Wellness' does an excellent job explaining all the intricacies of the digestive tract in a very understandable way. We learn about how certain areas can go wrong and lead to a cascade of problems, even chronic illness. The author then recommends a course of action for those suffering from these illnesses. Although the author strongly promotes natural treatments she is not against conventional medications at all. She thinks the two can work together. This book enables one to speak intelligently with one's doctor about potential natural treatments, either on their own or complementary to conventional treatments. Bottom line: I really cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is well worth paying full price for it.

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE IS UNLOCKING THE SECRETS IN OUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
This book is very useful in that it contains many practical tips on how to improve your digestive health. I found it very interesting to see how research has changed, by looking at the extremely complex performance of the human digestive system, in a systemic way. It is extremely technical and I, for one, did not try to memorize, the very large number of enzymes and various biochemical entities that Dr Lipski and her fellow researchers are studying in their complex interaction. One interesting point that is made is that the same problematic symptoms may be due to very different causes calling for very different treatments and that the same underlying problematic causes may and do in fact, evolve into different problems. Dr Lipski explains the differences in this fourth edition v the previous one. Scientific knowledge doubles between every two and three years, so that knowledge is twentyfive times what it was when the first edition was published. I hope that when we go for consultation with our gastro specialist, that he or she have read and understood Dr Lipski's book!

Digestive Wellness: Strengthen the Immune System
Enjoyed reading this book and when I showed it to a friend she had to borrow it because she couldn't put it down once she started to into it. This book is very informative on healing the gut and the whole digestive system. Most of the immune healing abilities are in the gut and if that is not working properly then the immunity is weakened.

Wonderfully informative, eye opening
The information in this book links together many illnesses in an understandable way. Damage to the gut and its connection to the immune system is well explained. While many of the alternative treatment suggestions are similar, that makes sense as it is all about healing the gut. It all but confirms suspicions about how our diets and what they have been doing to our bodies are main factors at the root of the explosion of illnesses we are seeing in recent decades. The tone of this book is not preachy, but rather informative. Great book. If you have intestinal problems or any kind of autoimmune disease (including diabetes), reading this book will give you another way of looking at it and treating yourself.

Lesding Edge Very Useful Health Reference
Lipsky provides leading edge information on how our gut influences a large number of processes, functions, diseases and syndromes in the human body. She provides ways to identify, test for and address a multitude of ills. I would highly recommend Digestive Wellness for anyone wishing to be proactive in their personal healthcare and a much more informed consumer of healthcare, or and especially for those who have been searching for a solution to a malady that has eluded cure by more conventional approaches. She is extremely knowledgeable as well as practical.

Started off good, but became less useful and reliable afterwards
There is no doubt that the author has education and experience in the subject matter. And she has her doctorate degree, etc. But does that make her a skilled and effective author? That's debatable. I started off liking the book, and enjoyed learning more about our digestive system. But as the book progressed, it became clear that the content is not presented in the most useful and effective way. The author has a habit of repeating herself. She might state something in a unique and memorable way, and you'll see it repeated later, as though she forgot that she previously mentioned it. She has a bad habit of using the awful and vague word "things", which is a grammatical no-no. I got the feeling at times that she was a young girl due to her excessive use of exclamation marks. It came across as unprofessional. It was very disappointing to come to the tables on pp. 184-87 and find flat-out false information. For example, she put white/acetic vinegar and apple cider vinegar incredulously in the "alkaline" column, when they are clearly "acids". I wonder if anyone with acid issues consulted the table and consumed either vinegar - thinking it was safe - and became adversely affected. The author goes way overboard in the recommendation of herbs and probiotics. Between this and the mistakes such as previously mentioned make it hard to take the author seriously. I had to start questioning basically everything after that realization settled in. For someone who is supposed to be serious and knowledgeable about digestive health and wise eating, it was odd that she admitted to drinking carbonated beverages (p. 213) and eating in the car while driving (p. 31). Doesn't sound like much of a doctor, or at least one who practices what he or she preaches. I got a chuckle when I read, on p. 381: "Did you ever get the munchies from smoking pot?" Okay, Liz... I did learn more about the digestive system, so I could find some value in the book (hence 3 stars, and not 1 or 2), but I don't believe this is the best book to really convey the information. So much of the book could have been slimmed down by grouping like topics together (instead of repeating off and on), cutting down on the probiotic and especially herb stuff, and maybe using a slightly smaller print font. A hardcover edition would also help, and lessen the "paperback" and faddish vibe that it sends out. It seems a bit modern and trendy, and less of a book to stand up over time. As a final point, I actually got a better understanding of how the digestive system works - in a concise, clear, and memorable way - from just a few pages in the book "Body - The Complete Human" by National Geographic.

Great reference book for digestive health
This book is like a "digestive health bible!" It's loaded with information and is written in an easy-to-read format. It's organized well so you can look up information on a specific condition if need be. It doesn't go into a tremendous amount of detail on all digestive disorders, but it does give you enough information, lists of supplements/herbs to try, and diet changes to implement. I think it's a great book to have for anyone who's interested in holistic nutrition.

Highly recommended!
This book is absolutely amazing! It is written in a very nice and easy manner, so the laymen could understand. Everything is explained so well, that it makes you appreciate more your body and amazing way it is working. After reading it, you will have better understanding of your digestive system and you might get some idea what is wrong with you. What I like the most is that it offers you some "non-strictly medical" help and tips how to eat better and also how to treat better your stomach. I think this book should be read by every GI doctor, because unfortunately not many of them know how to recognise and treat the illness in your digestive tract.

A comprehensive book that is well worth a read...
A brilliantly put together book that drills down in depth written by a lady who is passionate and very knowledgeable in this complex field of the importance of the digestive system and health and longevity...an amazing journey of discovery for me that I would wholeheartedly recommended for people to read including GPS who the majority do know more than just follow the normal protocol.
