Super easy to understand
Nice book that explains what thyroid disease is in really super easy to understand terms. Its written in a way that makes learning about thyroid disease simple. I like the way the authors write the book! Thyroid disease is new to me, my husband was just diagnosed and I need to learn as much as possible. This is such a helpful book.

Good Review of Thyroid issues and controversies
The book covers the main scope of thyroid disease thoroughly in an easy to understand manner. Of particular interest is an excellent section on the controversies of thyroid diagnosis and treatment that pervade the medical profession at this time, i.e. one size fits all medicine, which is slowly evolving toward individually oriented treatment. There is also a very good discussion on the various treatment options and an excellent section on analyzing test results, however my test results apparently do not follow any of the patterns indicated nor described elsewhere in the book. Thus it is short on information about the supposedly rarer outlying diagnoses that people have involving the thyroid (only 4 pages), such as secondary (pituitary) and tertiary (hypothalamus) hypothyroidism. I definitely recommend it even though it was not completely helpful in my case.

Good overview.
This book was very complete in providing a high level understanding of thyroid disease and helped me to release the diagnosis while important was not a sentence to a miserable existence. I do understand some individuals suffer extensively, and my comment in no way is meant to diminish their pain and suffering. I have been fortunate to have a family practitioner that prides herself in understanding her patients conditions and exploring all options for treatment. This book provided solid information on the basics of the condition. It is not an in-depth examination of the disease. Each individual will have different experience and should seek additional books to support those concerns.

thyroid disease info
this thyroid disease business is more than a little difficult to deal with. It is not just pop a pill and everything goes away. For a little part in our bodies that control something in every aspect of its function. It can have symptoms of many different things but always lurking there is this either non or over functioning little thing. THEN there is the weight up, weight down thing and everyone thinks you are another one of those who blame everything on their thyroid when they need to be more disciplined. So, this might be described as a handbook for the general public to have a better understanding of a challenging part of so many friends lives and tr being a bit less critical..I have to say I was probably looking for a silver bullet for helping myself deal with a bit better.

No information about hypothyroid and unwanted weight loss.
This is a very helpful book if you're looking for well written and easy to read general information about thyroid problems, but not so helpful if you're condition isn't 'typical'. I was hoping to find some information of use to those of us who are hypothyroid, eating well, and losing weight rather than gaining. OK, I know that we're in the minority, and I also understand that those who have the opposite problem aren't going to feel very sympathetic, but believe me it is a real problem. There is a huge amount of easily available information all over the internet on how to lose weight, so I was very disappointed to find that a great deal of this book was devoted to the same topic, while there was no information at all about why some of us are hypothyroid and unable to maintain or increase our weight.

Extremely Helpful
For years my mother has suffered from hyperthyroidism and doing research on this topic and trying to understand it has been extremely complicated for us. It's a scary illness that affects her eyes and throat. When the glands act up her throat constricts without warning and it's like she's being strangled. Her heart would then palpitate and then panic sets in. This book has helped us to better understand her condition. The book uses simple language to explain the disease in concise sentences. It provides tips on proper dieting and how to handle moments where the body feels like it's about to shutdown. It's an informative read if you or someone close to you suffers from this.

Just Try To Look It Up
I was really looking forward to reading this whole book. I downloaded the Kindle version, started reading, then wanted to look up a specific item my doctor had been talking about. When I went to the Index, while it looked to be nicely done, there were no page numbers to refer to nor was there any capability to tap on the specific item and be taken to that area of the book. At the very least, I would have thought that an electronic copy of this book be able to search for a specific item in the Index regardless of a "page" number.I found the book itself to be very informative and well written. Just keep in mind that you might not be able to get to a specific item you need information on.I will be ordering this in book form.

Good effort.
I got this after listining to the author on Dave Asprey's podcast, very interesting as the authoer aims to break down function and disease into chunks that are logical, I feel that title is tad misleading as simplifying thyroid interactions is never easy But this book goes a long way in making this happen.

Very detailed in its information. Extremely helpful and educational ...
Very detailed in its information. Extremely helpful and educational. What a kindness to give out this much information to the layman, to help us make more responsible decisions. Especially in the wake of the occasional arrogant dr. who's narrow mindedness and lack of keeping up with medical knowledge has cost some of us years of decent quality of life. I am grateful to this author.

Highly recommended.
I am never sure when I buy a Complete Idiot's Guide but this book was excellent to say the least. As a guide for understanding thyroid issues it is tough to beat. The author takes a very complex subject and makes it understandable for any reader.

Too clinical for a quick insight for the layman. Very condescending in parts too. Need guidance not a lecture. The presumption
is that we fully understand the mechanics of the thyroid when in fact even our own GP may not be well versed in the symptoms to look for. Too medical for my needs.
