Great toasters for families
Bought this for my parents and they love it. Toasts evenly, works quickly, and the four slots are perfect for making breakfast easier. Looks great on the counter and feels very well made.

Terrific Toaster
I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research before buying this toaster. I love it. The toaster itself is very attractive and modern looking. It works like a charm. I read reviews that complained about the length of time it took to toast. I learned many years ago that low quality toasters usually toasted very fast, browning the outside, but not warming the bread product itself through and through. When I started to purchase better quality toasters I learned that they did indeed take a bit longer to toast. The reason being is that they toasted more slowly and at a lower temperature which allowed the bread to be thoroughly heated through, not just browned on the outside. This toaster takes as long as the one it replaced as it too was a high quality toaster. It toasts perfectly evenly on bread, bagels, waffles, etc. I appreciate the reheat feature which allows the bread product to be heated again without getting more toasted. The defrost setting works just as it should and is really very fast. I appreciate the crumb trays which are located in the front at the bottom. They're very easy to keep clean. Also, if you have something that is sitting low in the toaster, simply push up on the lever and your item will be raised enough so you won't have the need to go fishing for it with a knife or fork. This toaster also has a 2 year warranty which is a nice change from the standard one year offered on most products. I would recommend this toaster to anyone. There's not one thing that I would change about it or that I'm not pleased with. Don't forget to do as the manufacturer instructs and run on the highest setting with nothing in the toaster for 2 or 3 times before actually toasting in it.

Not the fastest toaster, being a four-slicer, but perfectly adequate
Four-slice toasters are notoriously slow, because of the power limitation of 110V, 15A supply (I'm originally from the UK, where we use 240V and somehow, along with our European friends who use 220V, haven't all died from electrocution, and where our toasters and electric teakettles don't give you time for a shower and a shave and a lunar cycle before they do their job). This device has a bagel setting, which lowers the power level of the outer pair of elements for each slot pair. This is a silly feature, because the outer elements of each slot pair are actually the strongest. It would be just as effective - and faster - to simply insert your bagels inside out, for the same effect. I don't actually mind that imbalance with regular toast, because I like to butter the darker side of my toast, leaving the other side slightly less brown - it prevents the toast from drying out and cooling off too quickly. The reheat function will warm toast a little if you've been a little slow in putting it out. I use it for gentle warming of Pop-Tarts. The defrost setting works as well as can be expected on frozen bread. An inverter microwave oven (yes, I have one) is really the best thing for defrosting... well, anything, actually, but this toaster will do the job if you don't mind your edges browned slightly... Front side to back side of each slice, the toaster isn't perfectly even, but across each face it isn't too bad: no pictures of Elmo, saints, famous biblical figures or past presidents. Left timer to right timer on my unit is about one click different: enough that it bothers me when I forget, especially when toasting multigrain bread which turns into body armor, or Italian loaf, which dries out, burns and crumbles when over-toasted. Summary: I recommend this product on looks and perfectly reasonable functionality.

Back to buy another
I first ordered this toaster a year and a half ago. I have a large family and wanted to cook multiple slices of bread without multiple toasters. It worked fabulously -- toasts even, adjustable, quick stop, bagels on one side, easy to clean. The exterior does get warm but not hot enough to burn you. Nothing but good. Then my daughters were diagnosed with celiac disease which means we need to replace plastic, wood, non-sealed ceramic and of course . . . my toaster. I was thrilled to see that they still make this toaster, and ordered it without a second thought. I am happy to report that this one works as well as the other. Only oddity is that the two right slots do tend to cook a little faster than the two left most slots (yes, they are set to the same number on the dial). I hadn't noticed that on the original toaster.

Great toaster! Just bought replacement after 8 1/2 years.
I don't usually do reviews but in the process of buying a replacement (primary) toaster I was surprised at how many middling to bad rating this baby got. Bought the first one through Amazon is mid-2014. It has been moved 5 times, one move cross-country. It is beat to heck. Dents in the side and scrapes all over from poor packing. It's like a Timex watch, takes a licking and keeps on toasting. I looks around before buying the replacement, but found nothing to match the features of this one. The slots are nice and long as well as wide. The bagel setting actually toasts the inside of the bagel and warms the outside. It toast wide bread and thick bread. I even put frozen biscuit in the slot to defrost and warm up. I have to use wooden tongs to retrieve them, but it works. No doubt the toaster has been abused. I heat plates on it nearly everyday. That's probably not good for it, but it does a fine job. The only thing wrong with it is the abuse has made the toasting uneven. I can flip the bread and it does fine, I'll move it to the caseta on our house and let it live on, just not in daily use. The toaster has been a workhorse for my family. I hope it is for yours.

Solid toaster if you want a dehydrator
-----UPDATED REVIEW------------- I am changing my original review to lower it to 1 star. After about 6 months, this toaster is barely toasting at all. I have the dials set to maximum and the toast comes out warm and dry but not exactly toasted. There is only a hint of golden color. I have to push the bread down again to have it toasted and then it comes out unevenly browned. Mostly, it just turns the bread into a dried out, hard slab. So if you need bread crumbs, it works great. If you want actual toasted bread, it doesn't work at all. And it takes absolutely forever to run through a cycle--I won't use the word "toast" since it no longer does that. It's a bread dehydrator, not a toaster. Yes, you can see from my original review that it initially worked. But less than a month after I wrote that, we started having to turn up the dials to max and getting that traditional yummy toast that is browned on the outside while warm and still tender on the inside was impossible. This was an outrageously expensive toaster to stop working properly so quickly. I don't know why a good toaster is so difficult to find now, but it is. I certainly can't recommend this one. And I can't understand how so many others gave it good reviews unless they did so during the first week after purchase. Thar is why I initially thought it was a good toaster. I was wrong. -----ORIGINAL REVIEW------- I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. When we first got the toaster, it worked fine, although I had to dial it almost to max to get really brown toast. I love the fact that the slots are wide and you can lift the lever to make your toast stick up to take it out. However, now that we've had it for several months, I have noticed that the top portion of the toast browns while the bottom does not. It may just be our toaster or a problem with the homemade bread, but it is not toasting evenly. It is also on the slow side for making toast, although definitely faster than our toaster oven. Overall, the toaster seems well built with nice features, but we are finding it a little uneven in toasting.

Excellent product!
I bought this toaster 10 years ago and it's still working fine. I'm replacing it due to plug getting warm when in use. I really would like to buy this toaster again but spending $159 for a toaster is crazy.

good, not great.
So I have had a piece of garbage toastmaster for the past 12 years. Just never got around to replacing it. (The control knobs broke and popped off within the first couple of weeks. Burned toast, had to hover over it to not set off the fire alarm, etc.) So about a month ago I started researching which toaster to buy. I didn't want to spend a huge amount for a toaster that might be better than a 50-70 dollar one. So I decided on either this one or the T-fall four slice with the long slots. Finally I read one review where the guy said "hey, your not buying a car, its a toaster, pick one and be happy." Or something like that. Anyway, I decided on this one over the t-fall based on good reviews and I liked how it looked. Positives: toasts evenly, most of the time. Like the bagel setting, although it only lightly toasts the top of the bagel on that setting no matter how high you turn it up. I usually toast it twice or just toast it on a normal setting. So I should say I like the idea of a bagel setting. It defrosts well and looks sleek on the counter. It is easy to clean with the crumb trays pulling straight out. Negatives: the top of it gets hot, extremely so. My 6 year old burned his finger quite badly on the top metal edge trying to grab a piece of toast. (It blistered from the heat and the skin was slightly melted, so its not an 'oh he burned himself with a boo-boo on the hot toast' no he got an actual burn) New house rule, only mom or dad can get the toast. I heard this is an issue with the T-fall as well so I guess either way I would have had a problem. The wattage on this one is lower than the a T-fall. A fact I didn't know about until I had already ordered this one. Result: its slow. It takes a good five minutes or so to get your toast back. I haven't timed it, but it feels a little slower than the garbage that was toastmaster. While making breakfast for myself I hardly notice it. However when trying to toast enough for five kids it can get a bit tedious. I might buy the T-fall as well and that way I can double my output and compare them both side by side, but then again I would have spent all the money I was trying to avoid spending in the first place. Maybe I will just suffer, who knows. I would recommend the unit, for a small family or a single person. It does OK for my needs, not great. This is not a silver bullet. From what I have read you should really prepare to spend double or even triple if you want a perfect toaster. So there it is.

Browns Sliced Bread Evenly, both sides
My expectations are that a toaster be able to brown, Bread, English Muffins, and Frozen Waffles to a satisfactory level with one press. The Krups toaster succeeds brilliantly at one out of three with one press. The toaster is nothing short of fabulous with grocery store baked sliced bread. It toasts bread evenly (both sides) at a setting of 5 or 6. Per the photos the bread is evenly toasted on both sides. This alone earns the toaster four stars. No other toaster I have ever had can do this as consistently as the Krups. The toaster however requires that Frozen Waffles and English Muffins be popped down at least twice to reach the level of browning that I require. The defrosting feature, in combination with the maximum setting, still did not brown Frozen Waffles to the same standard as the bread; nor did simply putting the Waffles in at the maximum setting. English Muffins on the maximum setting were warmed but not sufficiently browned. I did not have bagels to toast but I did try English Muffins on the bagel setting and found they did not brown sufficiently on the inside. My approach is to toast Waffles and English Muffins on the maximum setting, then turn the toaster down to 3 or 4 and re-toast to sufficiently and consistently brown them the way I like. The toaster's cord comes out of the side and is longer than others with plenty of reach to access electrical plugs. I give the Krups four stars due to its superb bread toasting ability and design. I deducted one star for making me re-toast English Muffins and Waffles. Note that other toasters I have owned were not even close in terms of the Krups performance.
