If I Built a Car (If I Built Series)

My kids adore this! Both my sons ages 1.5 and 3.5 love this book and have for a while now. The rhythm makes it fun for me to read and the illustrations are perfect.

One of my biggest pet peeves with kids books is that most seem to be written as though the book can have rhyming/cadence or vocabulary, but not both. But this book proves the others wrong. When two coworkers recommended this book, I broke down and got it for my kid. He loves this book and I really enjoy reading it to him. He’s too young to understand all the words, so the vivid colors on EVERY page keep him engaged. The cadence is almost perfect, and the rhyming is very good. Absolutely no complaints there. There are references to various vehicles, materials, etc. scattered throughout the book, so I think this is also a good read for kids ready to start trying to build up their vocabulary and reading comprehension. The illustrations follow along closely to the words, which will be helpful to new readers. All in all, so glad I bought this book. Will be getting more from the author in the future! P.S. I bought this book to read to my grandchildren. Van Dusen is the author and he has three other books in his "If I Built" series. Since I already had "If I built a School" I knew I had to get this book too. My grandkids loved that book and loved "If I Built a Car" just as much. These two books opened up my grandkids imagination and we too talked about schools and cars that we would like to create.

This is an amazing book and my child’s new favorite. We read it probably 4x a day..! It rhymes like cat in the hat and is automotive related which makes it fun for dad lol

Super fun to read with kids and full of imagination. Fair warning that the latest book in the series, If I Built a Town, is terrible.

Cute little book. Very nicely illustrated. Bought it as a gift for the grandbabies. Buy the hardcover it's worth the extra few dollars.

This author has a great imagination and writes a very engaging story especially for children that like to ‘invent’ things. Creative story that is fun to read and keep childrens attention for read aloud or read alone. Love the bright colorful illustrations and how unique the story line is. Great book and the other books by same author are equally wonderful.

This book is such a delight! I used this book in a STEM lab to kickoff a project where students will create, design, and race a balloon powered car. It was the perfect inspiration. There are more books in the series that I can’t wait to read!
