Red Line 80204 WaterWetter Super Coolant - 12 Ounce (12 Pack)

My wife has a 99 C280 so I have to take extra care when buying fluids and parts etc since its a German performance automobile (that's sarcasm). All sarcasm aside its a great car and runs very well (no thanks to my tinkering or mechanical abilities). This stuff is highly reccomended in several benz forums from the late 80's models to the fresh of the lot models. I was skeptical at first thinking it was just fancy water and really didn't do anything performancewise. A few summers ago I changed the coolant in the car and noticed that the car would heat up 10-20% more than usual. Nothing to the point of damaging the engine (thankfully I replaced the thermostat to be thorough on this change) but still higher than I was used to. I grabbed a bottle of this at my local Autozone and put it in the car. After a few days of driving the stuff must of mixed fully with the rest of the coolant water mix and the car was nearly back to its old self. The new thermostat had a higher temp trigger so the engine does get a little warmer than before but not anywhere near the levels it was getting before I put the Water Wetter into the coolant tank. I recently changed the coolant again (DC summers are not friendly to engine staying cool)and this time premixed the water coolant and water wetter all at once and noticed an immediate improvement in temperature. With the AC blasting and going at 50mph we used the get the car nearly to 3/4 temp setting (when the thermostat would open and let coolant run from the radiator to the engine block) but now under the same cricumstances the car stays one tick above 1/2 which is 80 C on the car. This stuff makes some kind of chemical or physical change (never figured out the exact difference between those two in high school) to the coolant water mix. Something about making it so that water or coolant is more efficient at disapating. Don't quote me on this but I think that is the correct explanation. Now for a review on Amazon's shipping. I ordered this and the fancy coolant on the Sunday before Memorial Day. I figured well they will process the stuff Tuesday and maybe send me a shipping notice Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. I saved over 200 bucks by doing this easy repair myself so I didn't mind the wait. However, leave it to Amazon to prove me wrong. Not only did I get the shipping notification Monday (memorial day!) I received the coolant and water wetter on Tuesday before 12pm while I was at work! Go figure I paid for the free super saver shipping or whatever it is called and they shipped it with Fedex next day early delivery speed. Now I would not count on this everytime from Amazon but it is nice to see that if an item is nearby and available for shipping they process it quickly and have it out on the truck before you know it.

Before you buy this and use this, do your research! Your first bit of research would be to find out if your car is running hot, and why. Modern cars are designed to operate at certain temperatures, and a number of factors can affect the operating temperature; maybe your thermostat is worn out, maybe you've got a blocked channel in the radiator, maybe your water pump is pumping as effectively as a new one. The point is, this shouldn't be your go-to fix. Having said that, though, this a good a product to use in certain circumstances, like street cars which occasionally see track duty, or hard driving a daily basis. Another good scenario where you should use this is after doing a head gasket. Allow me to explain further. I used this in my 2000 Mercedes C230 Kompressor after I replaced the head gasket and sent the head out to be rebuilt. While I didn't overheat the engine; there was just a slight leak out of the back of the block (very common on the M111), machine shops generally tend to take off even the slightest amount of material when rebuilding a cylinder head, just to make sure it's straight. When you take material off the head though you then change the compression ratio (you raise it), which in turns raises the combustion temperatures, which in turns will raise the coolant temperature slightly. After doing a crap load of research on the topic of coolant mixtures and temperatures associated with different mixtures, I decided to drop the coolant mixture down to 25% coolant, and 75% distilled water. I actually got this ratio from Redline's technical sheet on this product. If you read the information on this product and look at the dyno testing they did, you'll see that they saw the biggest temperature drop when this product was added to pure water, and the temperature climbed slightly with more and more antifreeze added. That's exactly what's supposed to happen. Modern cars use a 50/50 mixture from the factory so that the cooling system can operate in any climate. A 50/50 mixture gives you optimal protection from freezing while not raising the temperature too high. If you were to just run straight anti-freeze the temperature in the cooling system would spike dramatically. But if you were to run just straight water all the water would boil out, you also would have no corrosion inhibitors. Basically what I'm getting at is that if you want to see results with this you should run a 75/25 mixture and a bottle of this product. And read the technical sheet on this product. Happy tinkering.

This took a couple of extra days to receive beyond the expected date.. not sure if this was the seller's issue or a shipping issue. I did receive the correct product at a decent price.

Le extraje 2.5 litros de anticongelante 50/50 de la capacidad total de 11.5 litros, le agregué el water wetter y rellene a nivel con agua destlada. Con baja carga la temperatura sigue en 98 C. A 3000 rpm en carretera la temperatura bajo de 115 a 110 C.
