eXtremeRate Clear Atomic Purple Console Back Plate DIY Replacement Housing Shell Case for Nintendo Switch Console with Kickstand – JoyCon Shell NOT Included

I love this product. It is nearly perfect. These are so similar structurally to the OEM backplate that they are super easy to install. They look and feel great. The only real issue I had with mine was that the kickstand is a little loose*, but I did not have with the other kit that I purchased so I feel like mine might just be somewhat faulty. The only minor complaints with these is that they don't put the speaker cover and foam pieces on before shipping them and that the game card cover isn't included/preinstalled. I get that these are small, cost saving steps that the customer can do themselves in less than 5 minutes but it just seems silly that they would manufacturer these products so well but not take those few additional steps to make the process easier. Those issues are so minor and subjective that I'm still giving this item a 5 star rating as it's very easy to install with minimal experience. Altogether it may have taken 15 minutes to change my Switch from stock to unique. I contacted eXtremeRate and they sent an entire replacement kit for the problem I had with the kickstand. It arrived very quickly and the kickstand in the replacement kit was perfect. Their customer service is top notch!

Installation isn't the easiest due to Nintendo's use of JIS 000 screws that strip easily and eXtremeRate supplying a PH00 with the shell for these screws, but, once you have it installed, the transparent color adds a unique look to the console. Just make sure to screw in slowly and not to over tighten the screws, otherwise you risk cracking the shell.

Purchased for my daughter's switch and only took a few minutes to properly install! Great quality and the color is awesome!

I bought this in 2019 and it was great to install and I loved the look! However, now in 2024 I've had to change it out due to concerning cracking. As I removed the backing I noticed more damage than I could see on the surface which is my second pic showing 2 small pieces that used to be attached to the whole. I had quite a time digging them out of my console. The kickstand is meh, I never needed to use it anyway (I don't know anyone who does lol). My Nintendo Switch is adult owned and I am very gentle with my electronics so it was always in a dock or a hardcase during travel. I'm not sure if 4 years is bad or good for this type of thing, but I thought I'd share my experience. Not recommended for rough players :p

Was super easy to put together. And looks super cool. Everything arrived in Great Condition. Watched a tutorial on YouTube. Thankfully there was extra screws tho because some stripped. Had to kinda rip off the original casing by force. It was the last screw. By the SD card. Luckily the screw hole stayed in tact. Lmao. Oh and another thing. I had to take it back off cause one of the mesh screens kept lifting up. Make sure to thoroughly press them into place. Happy tinkering folks. extremeRate rules!

The shell I received was a breeze to install and looks amazing! I will say that the screwdriver included is decent but the bits are garbage and the reason for so many saying it's easy to strip the screwheads. If you use a decently well made ph000 and y00 bit (one that seats into the screwhead without wiggling) and apply steady force until they are loose you will have zero issue stripping screws. There is no warranty sticker to remove either for those who want the option to put it back to original.

My only complaint is that after installing my switch is slightly fat and needs a little push into the dock instead of going in smoothly, but maybe thats something I did. Its weird though because this shell feels thinner and less sturdy than the stock shell. I picked up the back and matching joycon shells, and a Nintendo Screwdriver set from Younik and had fun putting it all together. Doesn't fit as flush as a stock shell so it has a slight ridge along the outside but nothing too noticeable, and my Switch looks as awesome as my Gameboy Advance did way back when!

Bought the Atomic Purple clear backplate replacement. Looks good, fits as it should. Some things to note: 1. The game card cover is not included, nor are the mounting brackets for it or the kickstand. The metal piece that serves as a hinge for the kickstand to the bracket is not included either. 2. There are no instructions included, and there are some possible mistakes to be made in installing the mounting brackets. Check online for a video. 3. Easy mistake to make: do not put the metal hinge piece into the kickstand upside down. The side with the raised edge in the middle goes into the housing. If you do this wrong, it will prevent the screw that goes overtop of it from going in correctly. 4. The plastic is pretty soft, so be careful inserting the screws that have housings in the back plate itself, as it is easy to strip the threads if you overtighten. Only real complaint I have is that the replacement foam padding for the bottom corners of the back plate is kind of a joke. Very thin compared to the OEM pieces, and not very firm so they're a little difficult to peel off the wax paper without bunching them up a bit. Not a huge deal but not great. Was cheap at time of writing, so overall: satisfied, just not wowed.

Product arrived as expected and in excellent condition. The case was of high quality with exact cutouts you would expect from the ones from Nintendo. Also included in the package was an extra set of screws and screwdriver which made installation very convenient!
