We ALL want one!!!!
MY FAMILY AND I LOVE THIS THING! Ha ha... our 2nd time using it my son asked if I've already made out my will. Twisted sense of humor I know, but it made me laugh. My reply was that I have, and he has to mud-wrestle his sister for it. Since my children are college age and I'm hopefully a ways off from them getting to inherit anything I love to use... I will be getting them all one of these for Christmas. :) It's amazing and fun and makes some yummy stuff. I mean OMG... melted cheese!!! I guess my only complaints would be the plastic handles on the cheese trays... my aunt pushed hers in too far and melted it. I'm not a fan of teflon for many reasons and wish I had options there... plus the cheese does stick sometimes and then you scratch them getting it off. :/ I love that you can flip this over for grilling or crepes. I love that you can order the granite top one and it fits and works just great. I mean, I wish it were a little bigger given that it has 8 trays for cheese. Really only 4 people can use what we call the "grill real estate". You steak out your little corner and if you're hungry it can be a wait. No matter, this is loads of fun. I also love that it's more user-friendly than Fondue. I have learned so much about cheeses and their melting characteristics. Raclette cheese is impossible to find except around the winter holidays, and then it's still difficult. But if you find a place with a variety of other cheeses, this is seriously a must-have!

Great Raclette Set!
Oh this is a great Raclette set! We bought it because it has 8 melting trays, 4 on each side. Just enough for a nice dinner party! The heating unit works very well, it has a reversible grill, and also comes with scrapers for the melting trays. We bought this together as a family gift and used it for the first time during Christmas.

high quality raclette oven
back story: i am a swiss native living in the US. raclette is something i grew up with. i visit switzerland often and consider myself up to date with their standards. good to know: raclette ovens have changed since my childhood.no one uses the enameled tins anymore(i remember my mom soaking them, as they were so hard to clean) and most modern ovens have a table-grill option. (i don't really use that, so i can't review that part) the positive: it heats up really fast, does what it should, heats evenly for what it is* and does not transfer heat to the table it sits on. *note, i have never seen a raclette oven with the traditional style heating element like in the above machine heat perfectly evenly throughout. the spaces towards the middle of the oven are always a tad faster. it's normal, actually negligible in this oven compared to others i've used. i have not used the table grill but it gets hot without a doubt. the tins are easy to clean. they could be a little thicker in the handle but it hasn't affected performance, and they're only minimally thinner than the ones i see in switzerland these days. the negative: -it arrived with the heating element dislodged which was an easy fix. also, upon first plugging i noticed smoke and an unpleasant smell caused by paint on the heating element. quality control missed that one i guess. that said, i've had the oven for close to two years and it has been working reliably. what i'd improve/add as an option: -a parking deck for the empty tins while you eat would be awesome. many raclette ovens offer this, but not all. i just give everyone a small plate to park their tins...

High quality, hot grill - performs as expected!
If you are lucky enough to know what raclette is (we were introduced to it by some friends who spent time in Europe) and decide to incorporate it into the meals you prepare in your home, then this grill would make a good addition to your kitchen. The grill is made of heavy duty, high quality materials. It is attractive and looks nice at your table as you gather around it with guests for a cheese feast. It gets hot very fast. We have not explored past the basic ways to use this grill but were intrigued by the material in the packaging that discussed cooking other meals, such as breakfast. We are messy eaters and one thing I will say about this grill is it is easy to clean, both the trays, top, and inside where the cheese spills over (once you let it cool of course).

Favorite purchase of the year!
We've only had this grill for a couple weeks, and have already used it maybe 10 times. We've done raclette a couple of times, but it's also great for tabletop grilling sans cheese. We even brought it to a cabin without a full kitchen and used it in lieu of a stove to cook breakfast every morning. The base and heating element are very well-made, and it's easy to adjust to the exact temperature you want. We have the cast iron top, which is sturdy and heats up quickly and evenly. Cleaning isn't too bad, either - it's definitely easier when we use the non-ridged side, but doable either way. Couldn't recommend this more highly. I'm glad we paid more to get a good brand, because I can tell that this grill will last for years.

Very nice Raclette Grill!
I have been wanting to buy a Raclette grill for a while now but I was hesitant because I did not quite understand if the Swissmar brand was worth the extra money. After using the Raclette grill now twice, I am glad I opted for Swissmar. The Raclette grill works great. The little pans are easy to use and clean, their handle does not get hot but the cheese melts perfectly. I am particularly pleased with the cast-iron grill top. It heats up very well and cooks meats and vegetables in no time. Most importantly, the cast iron top as well as the rest of the the Raclette grill are easy to clean and the electrical cord has a good length which means I did not have to use an extension cord. Overall two thumbs up.

Great for a party or for an easy midweek dinner!
Arrived quickly and exactly as described! Very happy with this purchase and already enjoyed a raclette party. It has a lot of space to melt cheese for a group and the cast iron top is great for keeping food warm.

Is one of the best one in this category
Beside the fact that cleaning any iron cast items is a challenge, everything else is working well. The Iron cast plate needs to be seasoned, if you want to have a more of nonstick plate. It heats up very quickly.

Swissmar is the best for raclette cooking!
I love the Swissmar raclette. Bought this for New Year’s meal. It’s so pleasant to sit and relax while cooking your meal at the table. Shrimp cooks to perfection on the grill. I love the melted cheese on the vegetables and French baguette slices. The cheese melts perfectly in the bottom trays. I also have another Swissmar raclette with the stone grill. I use both of them at once one for grilling the meats and the other for vegetables It’s nice to have these electric grills compared to fuel ones. It’s safer and less stressful. The trays for putting your veggies and bread are easy to use.

Great raclette grill
I bought this Swissmar raclette grill to replace my 15yo T-FAL. I chose Swissmar over T-FAL mostly because when I tried to replace my cooking plates I had no support from T-FAL who suggested I buy a new complete set. I finally found some on eBay in France... So this time I'm going with Swissmar who sells replacement plates on their website ! Cookingwise I am not disappointed, it works great and I love its retro look. I definitely encourage you to go for Swissmar instead of T-FAL if you're looking for a raclette grill.

Smaller than in photos
We enjoyed it for the first time. Happy with everything. It’ll take a bit of time to adjust to the slow heat, but it’s not the raclette grill issue, it’s a style/expectation/adjust your prep routines issue. Size-wise it’s definitely not going to work for 8 people: it’s perfect for 3-4 people. Maybe 5 if you squeeze around it and complement with finger food (not enough surface area to cook for this many people at once, and it cooks very slowly, and you and your guests will starve). But we already knew this while buying, based on other reviews. So, I was expecting it and wasn’t disappointed. It does look much smaller than in the photos though. Overall, very happy. Took a star off for cleaning: we got the cast iron version and it’s not as easy to clean as our other cast iron pans. The grooves on the grill are deep and quite a bit gets stuck. Normally, you’d just clean it while still hot, if it’s a pan. But with a grill on top, no handles etc., that’s quite tricky. And you wouldn’t want to soak cast iron. But that’s just a question of best practice and elbow grease. If you don’t wish to invest time in cleaning, get a granite/rock surface.
