Great gift for Dinosaur fans
I wasn't sure if my 6-year-old granddaughter would like this gift but she played with it for more than four hours on Christmas Day. Actually, every member of our household worked with my granddaughter "excavating the dinosaur bones." Grandpa supplied a few extra tools to help "scrape away" the chalk-like dirt. It's a messy "dino dig" but well worth the excitement when bits of bones were finally scraped away. Just remember to supply an old blanket on which the kids can perform the excavation. The toy provided about ten hours of fun and that was just digging out the various pieces which, to our surprise, amounted to about ten dinosaur bones. If your child is a dinosaur-enthusiast, I highly recommend this gift. While working on it, I listened to my granddaughter explain her three theories of the extinction of the dinosaur...in other words, I learned quite a bit from this 6-year-old child. Three adults and her 5-year-old brother all got caught up in the toy. The chalk-like block is about 8X8 inches and comes with two scraping tools. Grandpa provided a few other tools that he uses for carving and this really helped with the scraping. Along with this comes a plastic model to be built by the young ones.Last time I looked, her father was helping with the Dino dig. A great game for the entire family, especially considering that the child also received a computer tablet and other games that could have preoccupied her time. The manufacturer of this toy definitely got it right!

Great kit for aspiring paleontologist! But also partially used?
We received this kit on time, and my daughter is working on digging for the day. She loves it so far, and she's having to learn to be patient and persevere! She's been saying she wants to be a paleontologist, and this is giving her just a small idea of how much work it is to find dino bones & uncover them!My one complaint would be that the goggles that came with the kit were used or damaged. There are scratches all over the lenses and there were no protective covers on the lenses... So they were apparently used? My daughter doesn't like to wear them while scraping away at the plaster because she can't see very much through the scratches & fog. She could very easily get some plaster dust in her eyes... We'll have to find some other child-sized safety glasses.

Kiddos LOVED it
We purchased this item for our neighbors 8 year old boy who LOVES dinosaurs. Not trying to be rude, but he isn't the brighest bulb in the box, and is a little bit more physically agressive than a normal 8 year old, so I was concerned that this would be over his head and he wouldn't have any interest in it. He LOVED it. He and another child attending the party opened it after all the other kids left and spent hours digging, brushing and hoping. They both enjoyed it and played well together with it, alternating tools. The only item that wasnt' top notch was that the brush was a little too small. Easily remedied, we just used a paint brush. I would recommend this science kit to any child that is interested in dinosaurs. As an added bonus, the boys also loved the idea of dead things and bones. LOL so this did go over well.

Fun, but cheap
At first, I was tempted to give this a really bad review. There are really only 2 activities: Put together a plastic glow in the dark skeleton and excavate another skeleton. The glow in the dark one is very cheaply made - that gets one star at most. The excavating was very fun for my son. He sat there for hours with his uncle digging out the bones and got so excited when they found one. He was covered head to toe with the dust - he looked like a real archeologist! Some of the 'bones' broke when excavating them. Overall it is ok and worth a few hours of fun...

My son loved this he is 3
My son loved this he is 3, and love to digging and Dinosaurs so we did a month of dinos, I got this and Recommend putting a towel down cuz it was really hard to dig at first so I had to add water( like it recommends) but that makes a mess so make sure you have a towel down. It is fun to watch them explore as they dig them out, It came with a glow in the dark one which he didn't really care about cuz that wasn't the one he dug out. we did use brushes that didn't come with it to move the stuff out of the way which I would recommend getting I only had my make up brushes at this time so that is what he used.

A great activity for children interested in dinosaurs
I got this kit for my 3 1/2 year old boy who also worked relentlessly on it for hours! (you can speed up the digging process by wetting the mud, but it takes away from the fun). I (the adult) broke a bone because I got impatient :(you can glue the skeleton together with superglue, but it is for display only, not to play with.you can really make this a great "rainy day" activity, take pictures while your child digs and then create an "exposition" with the photos and the glued together dinosaur. We called our "Dylanosaurs" after its "finder", my son Dylan!

Barbara
This was a present from Santa to a 5 1/2 yr old girl. Her best friend is a 6 yr old boy. They had a great time with this gift. I have a 10yr old girl who wanted to play with this gift as well. There isn't much to the box. There are safely goggles , a paint brush, tool for carving (it will take forever with that tool) and there is only 1 so get something else that scrapes. The final item is a hard block of nothing. The hard block is what you have to scrape to dig out the bones. The 5 and 6 yr old needed help with the project. After 2 hrs they are still at it and havent lost interest. This was a great gift. More to write after we try to grow a dino!

Great Dino kit for the price
This was purchased as a Christmas gift for my four year old son. He was very excited to open this up on Christmas morning and could not wait to get started digging! The kit was a bit too involved for him to do independently and it took a LONG time to completely remove the skeleton. As mentioned in other reviews the skeleton is very fragile so we ended up with few broken pieces that needed glued back together. Overall he enjoyed this kit but was disappointed that he could not play with the finished product.

Damaged and over priced
Not only did the product arrive 3 weeks later than I was promised, but it was in a poor condition. the box was badly ripped and bent. I also found a much cheaper equivalent more recently. At £27, it also does not represent good value for money.
