What is the difference between the “red” and the “red burst”?

Yes, the red one is the original version, and the black one has some modification on size figuration and bridge. And these modifications will apply on the red one from next batches. It is recommended that in performance consideration, you could choose the black model and it has new model discount, while in color preference consideration, you could choose the red one, if you'd like a passion color.

Is this an "a" body or an "f" body mandolin? what is a good, sturdy, recommended hard shell case for it?

Thanks for your inquiry. As the title mentioned, this mandolin is an A style body mandolin, that has a plain, pear-shaped body and no points. .  If you play blues or rock, something warmer and softer tends to work better for the harmonies you prefer, A-style mandolin provides this result. As for the case recommendation, Vangoa bundle always include a durable soft bag, and there're a lot good case on Amazon. As long as the case size is matched, it will provide a well protection, it's recommended that the case interior size should be larger than 28 x 14 x 2 inch without going too far.

Thanks for asking, The top of Vangoa mandolin bridge sits on 2 wheels which move up or down when turned. This raises and lowers the action. To measure the action, check the height of the strings of the fret at the 12th fret with the string at the first fret. You can use a feeler gauge or a little ruler to measure the string height.
Fifty Thousandths (0.05) of an inch on the bass strings and forty thousandths (0.04) on the treble strings will allow a clean tone with comfortable playability. If the action feels stiff, you can lower the bridge. If there is string buzz, raise it.
