I ordered the steelbook shortly before Series 1 finished and it arrived in perfect condition. The box (with the beautiful multiple worlds design on the front) comes with four art cards (portraying Lyra, Marisa Coulter, Lord Asriel & Lee on the front and four posters which were posted to the @darkmaterials social media accounts last year on the back) as well as three discs: the first two contain three episodes each and the third the final two. Disc three also includes 5 special features (an introduction to HDM as well as four different features for: the building, adapting the novel, making the dæmons and the costumes) however these features have been uploaded to BBC social media previously and are nothing new (a shame they decided not to give a few more behind the scenes extras to fans who have paid for it). The series itself is wonderfully acted (Ruth Wilson steals every scene she's in) and the sets are stunning - a hundred times better than the film of 2007 - although, as many have pointed out, there is a noticeable lack of background dæmons and a few poor decisions that were made which means some may not enjoy the series as mmuch as they could. Overall, this TV series is definitely a must-watch (easily one of the best BBC shows of 2019) and the steelbook a great addition to the collection of any Pullman fan. Beautiful steelbook to go with a wonderful TV series!

Darker than you might expect
Firstly a confession. I have not read Philip Pullman's trilogy. I did watch the first series broadcast on TV avidly, knowing something of the rather ascerbic Pullman. It did not disappoint. Then I bought the BluRay, having at last got a suitable player. Now, it may be my faulty memory but it seemed to me that there was quite a bit more material on the BluRays than I had seen in the original broadcast and toward the end (principally episodes 7 and 8) I felt the more adult themes were much enhanced. The result was a good deal more gripping to my mind and I now wait impatiently for the second series, which may be some time coming due to the current Coronavirus restrictions. It will be worth the wait.

Favourite books and now my favourite show!
As someone obsessed with the books, I was skeptical about this show when announced, as it brought back bad memories of the horrific 2007 movie. However, I was blown away by this show! Bring on Series 2!!!

It is very good & is appealing to children as well as adults
I had watched the 2nd series on TV wanted the 1st, which was equally as good. Full recommend it it to everyone who likes an imaginary story.

So good it ground The Golden Compass to dust.
This is how you adapt His Dark Materials specifically the first book Northern Lights! Great casting and amazing special effects. This blows the terrible New Line The Golden Compass out of the sky and returns it to the dust where it belongs. The special effects are stunning for a HBO/BBC production and are used to their full advantage. Cannot wait for the next two series.

Tortuous bit brilliant! Still trying to full understand it!!
Outstanding in every way! Had me gripped - needed to see it at my leisure to understand the plot and the nuances! Even more explanation would have been welcome! Such a hard story to follow

We watched this on TV and had to buy the DVD - based on the books by Philip Pullman - keeps well to the story in the books. Excellent cast and production.
