Exactly, the diameter given refer to the bottom of the candles holders. The candles holders only hold candles 3 1/8 or to make it easy 3 inches.

Is this a true set of 3? tic sells another "set" - 72-880. the reviews say only one is sent (out of 3). a pity as the sets would coordinate nicely.
