Awesome Accessory for Cold Weather Riding
Usually, I am a warm weather bike rider. If it isn’t at least 60 degrees, I don’t ride. However, after making a bet with a coworker that I could ride to work every day, I had to prepare myself for some cold weather. I braved October and November, but December started to get a bit chilly. Christmas rolled around and under the tree were the Bar Mitts Mountain Mitts. At first, I had no idea what they were, but after my husband explained, I was ecstatic! The bar mitts are exactly as described….basically, mittens for your handlebars. They fit over the bars and cover the gear shifters and everything, and then you slide your hands into them. They are a godsend! My hands are usually the first thing to get cold, but with the bar mitts, they stay warm throughout my ride. In addition, they are also easy to install and remove. I live in Missouri, and the weather tends to frequently fluctuate between cold and warm, so I add and remove them accordingly with ease. The only downside that I see is they do look a bit silly, so if you want to maintain your reputation as a serious biker, these probably won’t help you out a lot. They do cost a bit, as well, but cyclists usually don’t have any issues buying accessories for their bikes. I also wish they came in different colors, instead of just plain black. However, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Overall, I give this product 5 out of 5 stars.

Amazing product, puts and end to cold fingers and hands for winter riding while maintaining grip and flexibility.
Phenomenal product. I can ride in sub-freezing tmperatures without gloves, they keep your hands that warm. if they made a full body suit I would ride all winter. People on trails ask me if the room inside the mitts is limiting? it is not. there is plenty of room, I have never had issues activating brake levers or shifters, nothing gets caught in there inside. Also, I still do jumps and drops with these on the bars, they don't limit my flexibility to handle the bike in any way. One of the best products I have purchased in a long time for riding, and easily the best winter-riding product. So much better than those awful lobster gloves because you get normal grip with these. Totally serious, you do not need to wear gloves inside these, if you do, your hands will burn up.

Finally, warm hands!!
These work exactly as advertised. I have a very hard time keeping my fingers warm when the temps go below 40 degrees American, and the Bar Mitts have allowed me to ride in temps down into the teens wearing only summer weight full-fingered gloves. Any feeling of claustrophobia -- or having your hands feel "trapped" passes almost immediately. It's very easy to insert/remove your hands, and your hands will come away from the bars just fine in the event of a crash. In fact, because I can wear normal weight gloves I feel like I have much better control then when I wear thick Winter weight gloves or "lobster" gloves. They are very well made and feel worthy of the price. They have stood up to repeated installation/removal without issue. I have the "roadie" drop-bar version of these too, and I highly recommend those as well.

No more frozen digits!
Decided I needed to try these after my index finger was nearly frostbitten using a lobster style glove at 17 F. Bar Mitts definitely help on those cold morning commutes. Used gloves I normally wear in 35 F to 45 F temps inside the Bar Mitts and rode 7 mile commute to work in 18F with no freezing fingers. I think I could safely use down to 5 F. Easy to put on and remove. Only downside: it does change my normal hand placement/arm angle; but this is likely due to the brake and gear cables on my bike, which seem to limit the way the mitts fit. I suppose I could work on changing the angle of the brake and gear levers which would change the cables and fit of the mitts, but since it is only 7 miles, the discomfort is temporary and I like where they are without the mitts. Still, I'll take the slight discomfort on this short commute over frozen fingers!

Perfectly warm fingers at 32 deg F.
Perfect. I live in Michigan and have used these a couple of times when the temperatures were around freezing. I wore long finger thin gloves as well and ended up having to remove the gloves as my hands were too warm! I found there was sufficient (not lots) of room within the mitt which made it easy to change gears and apply the brakes etc - not perfect, but good enough, and way better than doing all that with frozen fingers. Easy to install and they look like they will stay in place. I am really happy with this purchase. Any cyclist will tell you that your feet and fingers get cold real easy. This does not help with your toes, but your fingers will be warm! I would recommend this to anyone...... I have NOT tried this product in temperatures less than 28 degF.

Must have for cold weather riders
I rode with these all through the winter here in Denver at temperatures below 10 degrees F. My hands actually got sweaty on climbs even while wearing my lighter gloves. The only downside is that these affect your inability to quickly move your hands and arms to catch yourself. I use grip shifters, not sure how well they work with regular shifters, but it should be fine. Suggest going with the large size or XL unless you have really small hands. Only other recommendation is to make sure you have the velcro closures tightly closed around your cables to seal off the cold air as much as possible for really cold days. The design makes this easy. Very well designed in this regard. On days with slightly higher temps, you might actually want more airflow to keep hands from sweating on climbs, which can be accomplished by relaxing the velcro. These clean up very easily and so far have been very durable. Great product.

A gift he loved.
I bought these for my brother who bikes.. a lot! Even in North Central PA in the winter. These fit over his gears and brakes and keeps his hands toasty warm. Gloves are not sensitive enough and don’t allow quick shifting of gears. These are comfortable and durable while allowing you to maneuver everything with your bare hands. He loved them. I got him size large even though he doesn’t have really large hands. He said perfect! Plenty of room and not too tight.

Eliminated cold hands
They really work, These replaced a previous pair that were too small, they have vertually eliminated cold hands, I have used these in temps well below freezing in the low 20’s with no problems, easy to install, comfortable, enough room to shift and move hands a bit, The only problem I have is the reflective strip is falling off after one ride (90 min.), would and will recommend to friends

Works really well!
Put these on my Fat Bike for riding in snow. For the first time ever I can ride without my hands becoming painfully sore with cold. This isn't a scientific review obviously, but subjectively I guess they add around 10 degrees (Celsius) to your gloves effectiveness. So if you had gloves that were good down to say zero degrees, you can comfortably wear them down to -10 (or possibly -15) with the Bar Mitts in place. They mount on the handle bars well, no complaints there. The zips etc are a nice feature for warmer conditions. I got large and they are snug but OK, remember when ordering you have gloves or mitts on underneath and need the extra room. Worth the money IMHO. UPDATE: Two months later: Swear by these! They are amazing. They stay in position well, the warm is fantastic in the cold Ottawa climate. I haven't needed anything but cheap leather gloves when using these bar mitts to keep my hands warm even when its been below -10 Celsius.

Warm hands in any climate!
Totally isolate your hands from the weather. Make sure you have space on handlebars to install them. Mirrors could be an issue but a little cut solves the problem.

Utterly useless in freezing temperatures.
On a reasonably mild day, they were ok, easy to fit etc. However, even with warm gloves inside the mitts, me fingers eventually started to freeze when temperatures approached zero on a long bike ride through London. Bought another brand instead…

Opt for the insulated version
Not as warm as I was hoping. I'd get the insulated version if I could order again.

You get what you pay for.
Definitely more expensive than the competition but also generally better quality all around. Nice to have all the size options that other brands don’t have. Bought a cheaper brand for another bike but went back to Bar Mitts due to the better quality and fit.
