The LyxPro VRI-30 is a portable, foldable microphone isolation shield featuring high-density EVA foam and a perforated aluminum backplate to absorb sound reflections and reduce ambient noise. Measuring 19.3" x 12" x 3.5" and weighing just 3.75 lbs, it mounts easily on most mic stands with included hardware, creating a professional vocal booth environment ideal for home studios and office setups. While it improves vocal clarity by minimizing room resonance, it does not soundproof entire rooms.

Sound Absorbing, Yes. Isolation, No
For its intended purpose, the baffle works well once mic and baffle are set up properly for close placement vis a vis sound source. The baffle will absorb ambiance in the immediate vicinity of the mic capsule. Within about 5 inches or less from microphone, the mic will capture the timber, resonance, and characteristics of a vocal without capturing room resonance, reflections, etc. So very good in that respect: the higher quality the mic, the higher quality the result (I'm using it with an Electrovoice RE-20) and am very satisfied. As to isolation, it's unreasonable to expect a baffle of this size to isolate a good quality mic from sounds occurring away from the microphone. For example, the EV RE-20 is a professional cardioid dynamic mic having a polar response rejection of at least 15dB at 180 degrees off axis. With the mic baffle in place, it easily picked up conversations and movements behind it in another room, yielding an ambient level between -36 and -24 dBFS at the microphone. This is as expected, and not a failing of the VRI-30.

$30 well spent...definitely worth the money!
Amateur here, not a professional, but I do know just enough about audio recording & sound quality to know that this is worth buying. I do occasional voiceovers for work & use Audacity as my DAW. I thought about turning a tiny closet into a recording area with acoustic panels from floor to ceiling, but that's a little out of my price range right now. I record everything while sitting at my desk, so I needed something small & portable that I could attach to my floor model mic stand (Proline MS235) & use with my Blue Snowball iCE mic. The acoustic shield panel came today & I just got through trying it out & there is a definite difference in the sound quality. My recordings sound so much better without having to use any other sound treatment panels in the room. This LyxPro VRI-30 acoustic panel is a little on the heavy side, so DO NOT try to use it with a swing arm boom mic stand that clamps to your desk, it will definitely weigh it down. Use it with a floor model mic stand, something sturdy enough to support the weight of both the panel & your mic. You could probably get away with using it on a flat surface if you rigged up some front legs for it so it would stand on its own. You could do this easily with paperback books, styrofoam pieces or even Legos. If you try to stand it up on a flat surface as is, it will tip forward because the back leg is the screw mount that goes on your mic stand, so it's a little longer & can't be removed. It is very well constructed & I see it lasting a long time. The silver backing is metal, not plastic & you can tell by the weight (about 2.5 lbs). It folds in half so you can store it away when you're not using it. It only takes a minute to screw it on to your mic stand, then screw the attachment piece for your mic into the bracket. Buying this saved me several hundred dollars vs. buying enough acoustic panels to remodel my closet & as long as you have a quiet environment (no kids, pets, outside noises), it will work fine for my needs. IT DOES NOT SOUNDPROOF A ROOM OR BLOCK ANY OUTSIDE NOISES. What it does is give you a good "backstop" for your voice & make it sound like you are recording in a vocal booth, provided that the room is quiet to begin with. (I may be "beating a dead horse" by saying that over & over but y'all KNOW how some Amazon shoppers are when they write reviews...lol.) Hope this review helps. I was on the fence about quality & whether it would actually work but I was pleasantly surprised.

Compact but effective
I purchased the panel to enhance the performance of my condenser microphone. I also purchased an isolation mount. The combination of the two resulted in a remarkable improvement in the quality of the recording. Clearer, rumble free and captures subtle changes remarkably well. I’m very happy with the panel, the fact it’s compact and the way it mounts. I’ve not used it a great deal yet but looking forward to using it much more over the coming months.

Seems to deliver what I needed
So, some background first: I am doing some recording for digital classes along with podcasts. I have a home office area which is fine, but i also have to spend some time recording in my kitchen area. this isn't so fine, because we have a rather noisy newer fridge that emits a constant buzz or hum. so, i thought i would try this shield to help things out. my setup was: blue snowball, on a shock mount attached to a scissor arm which attached to my table. now: blue snowball on a moukey mms-2, with the shield attached. instructions weren't super clear, but look at the box or the images on amazon and you will see clearly how to set this up. the shield is fine on the mic stand, but once i put the snowball on the adapter that comes with the shield, my microphone stand base is just not heavy enough to keep things where they need to stay. short term, i've borrowed a heavy textbook to weigh it down. long term, i have some smaller (2.5 or 5 pound) weight plates that should fit on top of the base and fix the balance. minor field mod which i do not mind doing. before i figured out the right way to connect things, i had the snowball on the moukey mount and used the provided snoball stand for the shield. it worked fine, except that the snowball stand is not the most stable for the larger shield, so i wouldn't really recommend that as a long term option. i will add the weight plate probably tomorrow and see if that makes it better. as for the performance? i listened to the real time feedback on my headphones and behind the shield and then away from, you could hear the difference. i made a test recording and then listened to that, as well as the recordings i made last week pre-shield, and while i'd argue the hum is still present, it's demonstrably less, to the point you probably won't mind it or may not even easily notice it. i'd say that at least initially, the investment seems worth it edit-one slight update. seems that when i mount things all in one, the shield being up a little higher changes things a bit. the hum is blocked less now than it was before. i am either going to get a second mic stand just for the shield that sits low, around the height of the snowball stand...or i may get a low end set of soundproofing and put a block on the top and bottom of the shield to make it a low budget soundproof box and see which way works out better Update 2/7 So the snowball mic was just too unstable and the weight wasn’t terribly helpful. I broke down and bought a Samson MD5 mic stand and it’s a great improvement. My snowball is on a Mouskey mic stand in front of it when I’m doing things on my tabletop set up. (On my desk, the snowball is on an arm and no need for the mic shield)

Best affordable mic shield
Could have came with better instructions, but I was able to figure out how to install it in 5 minutes tops. It's a very surprisingly good quality for the cost, weighs just right, at 3.6 pounds, not very heavy on my mic stand. And gives enough coverage and I can adjust the shields opening to isolate it slightly more, before a vocal recording. Other than needing clearer instructions, its a great shield for the cost once installed and doesn't feel very cheap at all. I would highly recommend this shield, no need for a super expensive one if you have your room fitted with acoustic frames and bass traps, like I do, this will definitely make your vocal recordings much cleaner than without it.

Might be for you
The product itself is built fairly decent. Depending on how sturdy your mic stand is, mine constantly was tipping over from this product being so heavy. I would have much rather just paid the extra money to get sound proof padding on the walls. I can hear a small difference in the vocals I record but not enough to have bought this. It could be where I record in a pretty small room anyway, so other people could have different results

Great starter tool
I got started doing voice at with my smartphone but soon realized that if I wanted to work as a professional I would need the right equipment. First thing I got was a real microphone and next I got this noise isolation panel. All my clients agree that my recordings now sound much clearer and more defined.

Works great on the reverb in my condo.
I needed something to cut down on the reverb from my very cavernous condo, and so far this has been working REALLY well. I got the small size for a blue snowball mic, and it JUST fits. And I put the screen right on my desk, it doesn't need a stand. In a nutshell, I was getting reverb from my tall ceilings, and so far this has gotten rid of it. It's also deepened my voice a bit - the audio experts could explain this better, but basically it has isolated my voice, and made it sound more like a studio. And it got rid of the reverb in my room. So I'm very happy with it. As I said, it's a bit small for what I need, but it does work. So I'm satisfied.

Perfect for recording.
The foam in the shield is useful for rooms with a lot of reflection and it increases the quality of the recordings.
