Happily SURPRISED by This Hiker!
I ordered these hikers from Columbia after about 3 weeks of scouring Amazon for the right pair. I have always been very hesitant to order any kind of footwear online (I'm a see it, try it on in person first kinda shopper when it comes to clothing & footwear) as I have wider feet and seem to never have luck finding footwear that fits as it should. I've liked Columbia's products for a long time, but could never seem to get my wider feet into their footwear. However, after finding these in a brick & mortar store & falling in intense like with these hikers, I came back to Amazon to find them in an 11 WIDE (!) at super great price far less than in the retail store. With some hesitancy I decided to order these hikers & give it a try. The free return if they didn't fit tipped the scales. They arrived on time as promised and HUZZAH! actually fit my wide feet! Not only did they fit my wide feet, I experienced zero crunching of my toes (the toebox is *actually WIDE* like it should be on a wide shoe), the arch is in the right place, and I can even wear a medium to thick crew sock without feeling squeezed and still have room for my toes to move around. I *really* appreciate that the tongue of this hiker is *not* sewn all the way up to practically the top, which allows for my foot to really easily slide into this hiker without having to wrestle it on. These hikers lace up really nicely and the laces stay tied because they are rounded and not flat. In terms of weight these hikers are not at all heavy like some others I have tried so my legs and feet don't get tired. Though I haven't been in too many situations where there is a ton of water or wintry slush, so far these hikers have performed as waterproofed hikers should in this early winter season. I wore these hikers right out the box the first day for almost the whole day & didn't feel the need to "break them in" as I ahve had to do with other hiker boots. The boots are not heavily insulated, but even with a medium weight crew sock on my feet stay pretty warm but don't overheat even when I've worn them practically all day long. Speaking of crew socks, you'll want to opt in for them because I found that without them the fabric on the inside of the boot can be a little harsh on your ankle. That said, if you are on a long hike with *any* hiker boot this should be your standard dress code anyhow. Overall, really love these hikers. Delightfully surprised by them & would highly recommend. Overall, these hikers were a great find, a nice surprise in fit There could be some improvements made on arch support. While this has so far not been uncomfortable for me at all, if you have higher arches you might need an arch support insert depending on your comfort level. These hikers are not super cushy inside with any kind of memory foam but, again, even having worn them practically all day long my feet really weren't achy at all,

Love these hiking boots!!
I have purchased these boots multiple times (on the third pair of black ones). They have taken me all over the world. They are perfectly designed for my narrow foot and I can walk miles with them just out of the box - without any blisters. I never get sore feet. Perhaps I have a foot suited to the boots - or maybe they are just great hiking boots. My last trip I walked more than 200 miles in the Algerian Sahara on really rough rocky terrain - I wore them every day for every mile and then bought another pair as soon as I got home. I figured they earned their retirement after that trip. They are waterproof, comfortable, nice looking (not overly tech) and with the hooks for the last two laces they are pretty easy on and off in the airport. I did trip once (at the airport ironically) when the loop of one boot hooked on the other boots top hook - so tie them twice to not have large loops - or I am clumsy. They are also really light weight - and love the suede feel of the exterior. They clean up pretty good as well with a damp cloth although the boots do get scuffed and scratched up a bit - character. They have great cushion - but not too much that they feel bulky - and great ankle support yet feel flexible. Basically they are perfect and I wear them traveling and for work (on construction job sites) in any weather and everywhere else!! I am sure I will keep buying them and I hope they keep making them. Photo is after climbing a 500 ft. tall dune - resting at the top! They didn't even have too much sand (ok they had a lot of sand) in them after that. Love these hiking boots - thank you Columbia!!

Great quality hiking boots!
The Columbia Newton Ridge Plus are a very good quality fall/winter hiking boots that performs well on trails, but can look great also in casual looks. I love to hike and I need good quality boots to keep my feet warm and safe. The first time I wore them, I took them on a 3 hour trail walk. Leather shoes usually need some time to break them in, but these were very comfortable from the beginning. I also wore them for a 4 days trip in the Yosemite Valley, in the winter. They kept my feet warm (with appropriate stockings) and dry in both rain and snow. I did lots of hiking and my feet did not hurt at all. The boots are very lightweight, while looking a little bulky (I like this look). On icy surfaces they are a little slippery. The boots look very nice and I can also wear them in the city without looking like I'm on a hike. It's quite a nice styling piece with jeans or leggings (although I wear them with casual skirts/dresses as well). The boots fit me as expected (I wear 7.5 but I bought them in size 8 to be able to wear thicker socks in the winter). With very thin socks I could wear a 7. I have a medium width foot and these are perfectly fitted, maybe a little too fitted with thick socks; if you have even slightly wide fit I would recommend a wider size, since the construction of the boots doesn't allow flexibility. March 2018 update (after December 2016 purchase): The leather shows after one year some wear, but otherwise the hiking boots lasted very well in time (the sole shows minimal signs of wear). These boots protected me from cold and water in many hikes and vacations; I just love them more and more. I would repurchase them again when they'll be all used up and beaten up. Pictures are taken recently.

Better than I expected
In all honesty, I bought these boots because it was Prime Day and the price was right. I like Columbia jackets, but probably would have replaced my old boots with a different tried-and-true hiking shoe brand if the price on these hadnโt been so good at the time. I checked some reviews here and elsewhere and saw that lots of people were happy with these. I wore them on one intermediate local hike to break them in, but they surprisingly didnโt need any real breaking in. They were good to go right away. I ended up wearing them on a week-long family trip to Iceland where we did a ton of hiking and walking. They were comfortable, durable, and held up very well on the rocky terrain and wet weather (my feet stayed completely dry!). I definitely jammed my toe on a few rocks, but didnโt feel a thing in these shoes - they kept my feet very protected. Best of all, they wore well from the remote volcanic areas of Iceland with my athletic wear, to the streets of Reykjavik with a pair of jeans and a sweater. Also, I have flat feet with a very strong pronation (see photo), and my feet and ankles didnโt tire out in these boots at all. If Iโd had the time, I would have added some inserts for arch support (and will do so for the next hike), but I was pleasantly surprised at how well these were able to support my poorly designed feet without them. For those wondering about sizing, I typically wear a size 7.5 to 8, depending on the shoe. I got these in 8 and they fit perfectly. I was worried because with hiking socks, it felt like my big toe might be too close to the front of the boot, but it turned out to be totally fine and no issues at all. My toes never slid or hit the front.

Waterproof. True To Size. Great traction. Squeezes the ankle bone
I'm taking these on a big vacation and will update after. I thought the 10 was too long until I measured the insole, so dont judge a book by it's cover! I sprayed it in my sink and didnt feel water inside the shoe, including the tongue! It was initially comfy to walk in BUT the boot shaft has thick padding, which is NOT ergonomic to the human ankle, causing significant pressure to the lateral malleoli (the bump on the outside of the ankle joint). I am more sensitive to pressure than most and it drove me mad! If you arent, it will still be uncomfy. BUT I found a way to tie it so that it doesn't squeeze the area: when you get to the last 2 hooks, put the laces on IN REVERSE! So loop it to the top hooks then to the 2nd loops, then cross them, double wrap the laces (to reduce the lengh), and do a double loop knot! VOILA! But ideally, they should carve out that section to accommodate the joint. The insole itself is thin. Not painful but not super padded either. I added a slim insole on top of it.

Worth the money! Buy this pair for your next hike
Worth the money! I have wide feet and these were still comfy on a 12-mile hike. These were a lifesaver on our trip to Yosemite. We walked through streams, rocks, loose gravel, and mud. These boots felt like a lifesaver on the tougher trails. Definitely provided grip and stayed waterproof.

My favorite hiking boots!
The great quality of Columbia gear shines through in this hiking boot! I've worn them for several mid-distance hikes (5-10 miles), and they are supportive, durable, well-fitting shoes. I love that I can clean them off and they still look new! They are also good looking enough that I can wear them on the trail and then out to lunch with a cute sweater over my hiking shirt. :-) I liked them so much after a few months, ordered a second pair!

Good fit and comfortable.
I couldn't be happier with these. I took a chance buying these a couple months ago for a camping / light hiking trip. I was afraid they'd be the wrong fit for hiking. I normally wear a size 10 or 10Wide sometimes. These are very comfy, not loose and not tight. They provide lots of cushion and support while keeping my ankles stable. I actually wear them all the time now to walk the dogs and such. They're warm too, I wore them to my Church's trunk or treat this year where it gets pretty chilly for a couple hours outside. They kept my feet warm and comfy.i would buy them again in a heart beat. Not a bad price for such comfy hiking shoes. If you're a long distance hiker and really hard on your boots I imagine they would wear out a lot sooner since they're not leather. They're a Faux leather plastic vinyl. Again not a bad price point for someone like me that hikes a couple times a year and mostly walks her dogs lol.

Comfortable!!!!
They're incredibly comfortable! The soles are springy and there's no pressure anywhere. The key is to lace them correctly. I've already walked many kilometers over rough terrain with ravines. My feet don't get tired at all. They're dry and warm. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.
