First of all, the product really seems to work as intended. My cat has been using it a few weeks now with no birds caught and she was getting them pretty regularly before, about once a week if I didn’t restrict her outdoor access. She is much easier for me to see now too, so it makes sense it would work for birds. She had no problem wearing it, accepted it right away. I take her collar off when she comes in at night anyway so she gets a break when she isn’t outside. I use a non breakaway because those clasps wear out when taken on and off each day. Another solution would be to use the beastie bands brand collar that you could slip over the head on and off and not have to remove the birdsbesafe sleeve. The bird safe collar is like a scrunchie that is open on both ends. You slip the fabric tube over the collar and then put the collar on the cat. It’s kind of tricky and time consuming to slip over the collar the first time, so be patient. I washed it before wear as it had a new clothes chemical smell, and I have washed it once since. Easy to hand wash in the sink and it dries completely overnight hanging on the dish drainer. I am just so happy that I can feel relaxed when she goes outside now, and I don’t have to keep her inside in order for birds to be safe. I was getting sickened by all the bird funerals, but making her an indoor cat was also not going to be sustainable. This is an awesome product, an inexpensive solution, and I’m so glad it exists! Also, it’s a bonus how entertained I am when I see her innocently showing up at the door wearing an Elizabethan/clown collar. Makes me smile every time!

I live near (and have volunteered at) a wildlife rescue. One of my cats is a savvy hunter and I was sick with guilt whenever she caught a bird 🐦. January of last year the intake person suggested I try a BirdsBeSafe collar available on Amazon. The minute I got home from dropping off the injured bird I ordered up a couple BirdsBeSafe collars and elastic safety collars to use with them.This was the best purchase ever! My cats haven’t caught any birds since I put those collars on! It was easy to set them up, the cats weren’t bothered either. It is good to wash the collars every so often to keep the collar colors bright. They work by making the cats more visible to the birds so they see the cat lurking! Their cat camouflage doesn’t work!

This collar cover works phenomenally well for our fluffy little bird murderer, but of course it's not a foolproof solution. You have to think about it in relative terms. We were typically seeing one or two dead songbirds per day on our doorstep, but in the past four months since buying the collar cover we have seen a total of six. Four of those were in fledgling season, with baby birds that hadn't quite gotten their wits about them. When we realized this, we kept our cat indoors for two weeks until the little ones were mostly out of their nests.I'm really surprised at some of the reviewers rated the product badly just because their cats continued to kill a few birds. Even if the benefit is small for those cats, isn't it worthwhile? The collars aren't expensive and the cats don't seem to mind wearing them. The only 100% foolproof solution is to keep the cats indoors, which is often not a good option.A few more comments: We live in an area with a lot of ticks, and our cat is allergic to flea and tick medication so she attracts about four or five per day. The ticks love to hide under the collar so we have to examine our cat quite carefully, and remove the collar every couple of days to make sure we are not missing any of the nasty little buggers.The collar cover gets a bit dirty so I recommend hand washing it every 2-3 weeks. We have just purchased a second cover so we have a spare while the other is being washed and dried.Our cat has short hair, so the collar is quite visible. I imagine that it might not be as effective on a very fluffy cat.We are seeing more dead mice and voles on our doorstep since using the collar cover – I think our cat has figured out that she now has an easier time pursuing rodents.The quality is excellent - we are not seeing any wear and tear. The colors have begun to fade slightly, but that's not surprising after four months of constant use outdoors and several washings.If I could afford it, I would buy 1000 of these and give them away to everyone I know with an outdoor cat. Think of the difference we can all make if we use these collar covers and spread the word.

Noticeable decrease in dead birds and other critters brought in. Cat doesn’t seem to mind wearing it at all. I also like the reflective strip that makes him more visible. Only downside is it gets lost regularly.

I see they've changed the picture.. which is good - because what i got was wildly different than the image used. What was advertised before was much deeper cut (more fabric width that would extend further from the neck). I spent 15$ on it (thinking it was a fully ready collar) - my mistake.. The value for money i got for this tube to go around another collar is insanely poor. Note- I see in the review summary people were already questioning value for money at $10. The idiot I am, I spent 15.95 (plus tax). And I now see they are selling it for 16.99?!?! ..this little fabric tube.. with no structure, no reflective elements, no bell.. And they want 17$ ..for something that I'd bet money was made in China. Terrible

Works, however its wildly expensive for what it is. It's quite literally a piece of bright fabric sewn in half like a tube that you thread on to a collar. My cat is indoor outdoor and kills birds every. Single. Day. I put this on him coupled with a sperately purchased collar with a bell and I've watched birds get away. Three days, no birds caught so the product does work. He'll eventually lose it since he's a farm cat, that much is expected. Going to get a yard of bright fabric for the next one since someone is making a killing on roughly 50 cents worth of tubed fabric. You should get a five pack of these for the price they are asking.

I have ordered five or six of these collars. I have two cats and once in a while they'll come home without it on having caught it in a branch or something else . I always keep a couple extras on hand. It has cut down on the bird kill drastically. What seemed like a daily occurrence is now maybe once or twice a month. I also sew the largest bells I can find that are made with a separate sodered piece on top of them. They ring the best and the loudest but they're hard to find. I have to order them online because I can't find them in any store. The stores carries very cheap bells where you just put the string through a piece that they have bulged out from the actual bell . I prefer the ones that have the separate added piece that is sodered on the top of the bell as they hang better and they make much more noise. I can't say enough good about this collar . I never let my cats go outside without them. I also make sure I use a breakaway collar inside these collar covers so they won't hang themselves on it. You will not regret this purchase. Because they roll in the street so much I have to wash them sometimes at night when they're not allowed out. They both sit at the door and wait every morning knowing that they have to get their collars on them.They seem very proud with this bright red polkadotted collar and they sure look cute. All of the neighbors have commented about how cute they look and ask why they're wearing them. I try and educate as many people as I can about how much and how well they down on the killing of birds.Unfortunately they don't work and lizards so I still get my gifts every once in a while. Luckily they bring him to me unharmed.

Mamadoodle is outdoor kitty. I generally don't like having cats outside, but in this instance I took in a mama and two babies to keep them from going to the pound. They are great kitties. Mostly stay on my front porch, and the babies (now full grown) don't bother the birds. But Mamadoodle does-- not for food, for entertainment. I tried a soaker squirt gun -- didn't slow her down. So it's a battle all day to keep her away from the birds. I noticed the birds just didn't seem to see her. I tried the collar with bells. Again, it didn't help. Then I saw this and it began to make sense. Cats - especially tabbies, have such good natural camouflage the birds are not seeing her. Between grass, mulch, tree bark and bushes, she just becomes invisible. I was skeptical about this item, but at this juncture, I was desperate.I had a breakaway collar on her already (with the useless bells). I slid this one figuring she would have it off in two minutes. Instead, she seems to like it. It doesn't bother her. She eats, sleeps, scratches and grooms the same as she always did. She just has a costume on now...lol. She looks adorable. And immediately, I saw the difference in the birds. For a chance they saw her, and would move to higher limbs. She hasn't gotten near a big in over a week.I will update this changes, but so far it's been the first real chance to slow her down. She still goes on the mighty hunter routine, but the birds are able to stay far out of reach now. The collar has a glow in the dark piping that helps the birds see her right at dusk, too.

Didn't have it long but no birds dead when he had it on. Then 1 day off and a magpie in the house. He looks ridiculous but maybe it worked? He constantly loses collars so need a better stay on collar but with quick release.. hard to find the balance. Now going to cut his claws as my last resort...

Our cat wears her collar at all times outdoors. In the 3 months she has been wearing it her two bird a day habit has disappeared. This is a great piece of equipment if you have an outdoor cat but still want birds in your garden.

This works well to keep my cat from getting birds. I was finding 3-4 a week and haven't found any since getting the collar cover. Only issue is I used a collar that breaks away and she came home tonight and it was all gone! I suggest getting a tracking tag so you can find it if it slips off. I like the reflective strip as it makes it easier to spot my cat. I think the shipping seems a bit steep to Canada and it is also a little annoying that you need to provide your own collar, but it also allows for some choice on the owners part. I ordered two more collars, again a little surprised that shipping went up for two when they are such a small item to ship.

Our cat‘s nickname was birderer…one a day, sometimes 2. we were devastated and ready to try anything. 2 bells didn’t work so we gave this collar cover a chance. A bit pricey with the added shipping cost to Canada but as mentioned before, we were desperate to try anything!Birdsbesafe collar was worth every dollar!!! He has been wearing it for 3 weeks and we only had one fatality in the first week. That’s it!It’s amazing! So grateful that we found it.

These collars are well made and do really seem to make a difference. I just wish I could find them made closer to home so I would have to pay the extra shipping. My cat has lost one already with his releasable collar.
