Non-greasy, great fragrance
This is a very pleasant way to start the day. The fragrance is delicious and it does not leave my hair greasy.

All other tonics are going in the trash
I love this stuff! I used to use hair tonic from Japan - it's a lot more common there and they make some very good products. After trying the Eau de Quinine, though, there's no way I'm going back because the fragrance is so much better. Let me dispel some myths about this product. I have a very fair complexion and light, graying hair. The dark purple color of the tonic looks like it ought to stain my skin or hair, but it doesn't at all. Weird--the color just disappears. After showering, I splash a little in my palm and spread it in my hands, then rub it into my hair. I can then use a hair dryer (or not). The result is that my very fine hair stays in place a noticeably better than if I didn't use a tonic. You can't tell by looking at me that I put anything in my hair at all. It's not oily, greasy, or sticky in the least, and my hair is every bit as soft as if I didn't use the tonic. All that is great, but what really hooked me on this tonic was the fragrance. It was a little strange at first; it hit me like a chemical kind of smell when I splashed it on, but then it dissipated very quickly. It soon took on a more organic fragrance, subtle and delicious--almost like the flavor of black currants. I soon began to really like it and now I truly look forward to using it every morning. I honestly didn't expect that. Others have described it as addictive and I would have to say they're right!

Works well, decent price
Middle aged guy here, still blessed with straight/thick hair. Tried many hair products thru the years. This hair tonic works well for what it's being advertised to do. My scalp tends to get dry and slightly flakey in the winter. A few splashes of this massaged into hair and scalp, then combed thru removes most noticeable dandruff and helps prevent dry scalp and flakes for the day. Also works well as a base for pomades and gels if your going for a wet-look style for your hair. Smells cosmetic and medicinal (like old chapstick and cough syrup mixed together). It's not a strong or unpleasant smell, lasts maybe 1-2 hours tops. Wife actually likes the smell! Word of caution: If you're going to wear white or light colored shirts, best to throw a towel over your shoulders to catch any drips until this tonic is combed thoroughly thru your hair. Could temporarily stain.

Performance is 10/10 for a tonic, scent is no bueno adios
Scent is old school barber shop. 1920's barbershop. Nobody in 2026 should be smelling like this, in my subjective opinion. Scent will last as a bubble around your hair for hours. It can be worn only with an aftershave and cologne to neutralize this scent out. Otherwise the scent of Eau De Quinine will remind people around you of an old person. Not cool at all. Back in 1997 I remember old man Larry driving me and my mother downtown to Brickell's Hyatt Regency for a convention. Picture a big old Lincoln Town Car, big like a land yacht, and Larry in his 90s. Old guy smelled exactly like Quinine Compound Hair Tonic! It's flowery. It's almost basic alkaline. It lacks freshness that you get with modern scents. Performance. If you use it directly as intended, rub it into your hair like a shampoo, sort of after-shave for your hair, then the hold is there. Gust of wind might disturb the hold, but that is to be expected with hair tonics. Your hair becomes soft and delightful to touch. You don't get shine with this tonic. As time goes by, performance disappears, especially if your hair is disturbed by you, someone else, or the wind. I use this in a spray bottle, 50/50 with water. Hold is still there, but some stubborn hairs won't stay with this mix. I imagine myself adding more pure hair tonic once I use up half the hair spray bottle. I don't recommend this product because of the scent. Smell is subjective sense, however, I don't think anyone should be smelling like this in 2026. Other clubman hair tonics are as good in performance as this one, I imagine, I'd go for the classic next time, because I do like Clubman aftershave smell. I bought this one, because shipping was fast.

Not the oily version
My husband used this product in Brazil in the early 80’s. He has a lot of hair, and liked the wet “just-out-of-the-shower” look this product provided. He moved to the US after that and only now thought about it, as his hair grows in the pandemic. However, he found out later that there’s another version with oil (apparently only available in Europe), which is probably the one he was familiar with 40 years ago. So the hair dries out, but the scent is nice and the hair stays wet a while longer.

Excellent produit !

Like a lot of guys I'm fond of most of the Clubman products. Usually very decent products at a relatively low price, the Eau de Quinine Hair Tonic seems to continue that trend. Certainly leaves my hair shiny (but not greasy), thicker and easy to style (I usually use a water based medium hold pomade) but it certainly has an interesting scent. There's no hiding from the fact there's quinine in the tonic, so you end up smelling like a gin & tonic.

Lo acabo de recibir y lo use solo una vez, deja el pelo muy suave y lindo, no se a largo plazo si hace crecer el pelo y lo fortalece, así que eso lo sabré más adelante

First I want to say. Clubman has some amazing products. But this one is not for me. Not the greatest smell. This product is not an aftershave or cologne. The best way I can describe it is. Smells like black licorice and medicine.
