Updated 2009 edition of this evergreen punk classicโwith a new chapter, additional photos, and other original material! โA truly compelling narrative . . . a powerful piece of cultural reporting.โ โ Washington Post Washington, DCโs creative, politically insurgent punk scene is studied for the first time by local activist Mark Andersen and arts writer Mark Jenkins. The nationโs capital gave birth to the most influential punk underground of the โ80s and โ90s. Dance of Days recounts the rise of trailblazing artists such as Bad Brains, Henry Rollins, Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Fugazi, and Bikini Kill, while examining the roots of PMA, straight edge, Dischord Records, Revolution Summer, Positive Force, and Riot Grrrl. This book provides a window on the hidden history of a grassroots rock revolution that burst into the mainstream in the early โ90s following the success of Nirvana and its groundbreaking album, Nevermind . Review: Essential Reading for DC Hardcore fans - This books is crucial for fans of the DC scene and all of the people and bands involved with Dischord Records. Reading this book I learned about the context in which the lyrics of those bands were written. This book is like the glue that pulls all of the DC puzzle pieces together. NOW I understand the situations that gave birth to the way so many of those people were thinking. This book clears up a lot of mysteries for me. Seriously, I had a hard time stopping once I started reading. I can't recommend this book enough for people who are true fans of all things Dischord. The authors did an amazing job pulling all the pieces together. I'm so happy that I got this book. Review: Great to See Old Friends, Bands & Venues Again - This book is an excellent overview of the DC Metro Area punk movement in the early years. I was pleased to see so many of the original local bands included. Lots of photos and gig posters. Great book!

Must Read
I moved to DC because of the music, plain and simple. And this is a wonderful reminder of how great it was to be in a community of incredible creative people who were also passionate about politics and social change.

Lacking in 90's info
This is a cool book, but I bought it for info on Ulysses, Slant 6 and Circus Lupus and was very disappointed. Ok, fair enough, they weren't huge bands but I think they rate as much as crap like Ignition and Fidelity Jones/Beefeater. The other problem is that in this book the late 90's period there is so focused on Bikini Kill and Nirvana that it get's really frustrating because even in 2000 this must have been somewhat of a retread (especially Nirvana, fuhrkristsakes!). However, this gets a three for the coverage of Bad Brains alone. This guy should right a book about Bad Brains cuz I've never seen this much in depth info anywhere else. Obviously tons of great stuff on Fugazi/MT and Rites of Spring. Plus there's tons of s*** about Positive Force which may be interesting to some but not I... couldnt cut a few paragraphs to talk to "a very important woman in the scene" Christina Billotte?

So much info in one book
Only a local guy could have gathered that much information about the D.C. hardcore scene. This book is an incredible journey inside one of the most influential scene that ever existed.
