Works well. Whetstone aren't my cup of tea, but still a good sharpening tool to have in the sharpener collection.

Nice sharpening stone! wish it was labeled (or explained) more clearly
LONG STORY SHORT I bought this with a WATL throwing axe that I bought for my wife and I to throw in the back yard. My main complaint is this...it just kinda shows up...by itself. No instructions or clarifications. I know how to use a whetstone, but some tips on best practices for a throwing axe specifically might be nice. Furthermore, supposedly it's 400 grit and 1000 grit, but there's nothing there to tell you which is which, so you just have to do an educated guess, or try to find info elsewhere. So here you go: GRAY SIDE: 400 Grit TAN SIDE: 1000 Grit Also, it's not mentioned, but you should WET your whetstone. I actually just soak it in water for 15-20 mins before using it. Much better results, and doesn't seem to take as much material off the stone itself. Happy sharpening.

Wow!
Wow! Just Wow! Axe was very dull. With just a few runs across the blade with the stone, the blade was razor sharp! Best sharpening stone I've ever used!!

Works, but very poor durability
I bought this stone as a compliment to the Lansky puck since this is advertised as 400/1000 grit compared to the 120/240? Of the Lansky. I hoped it would give me a finer finish and let me get a sharper edge. So far, it has done that. However - the stone seems very soft, I get a lot of fine grit dust from it and if you change angle too much the edge will easily cut away some of the stone resulting in a large pile of dust. The Lansky stone, in contrast, only leaves metal behind and shows no signs of use otherwise. I can’t deny this stone has done the job I wanted it to but I don’t expect to get much life out of it and will look elsewhere for a finer grit when it comes time to replace it. Especially considering this stone was $8 more expensive than the Lansky and I think the Lansky will last many times longer.
