Liberty 9G HDX-150 MICRO Biometric Safe - Safely secure your valuables or handgun in the new Home Defender - desertcart.com Review: Buy two of these - First one I got didn't work, but manufacturer, Liberty Safe, worked above and beyond to help. I ended up getting another new one, direct from Liberty Safe. Works great. Get two, one for bedside, one for living area. Review: Could be great but... - A lot of changes could be made to make this a great product. I've tried contacting manufacturer several times to no avail. I had to adjust/modify the lock mechanism to get it to work properly. The lock would open but the latch was still getting hooked on the lock due to misalignment and unfinished cuts on the metal. I had to de-burr and make minor placement adjustments to get it to open all the time. The biometrics work fine but if not on the power adapter it does take a couple seconds to 'wake up'. I'll be getting a power adapter. I knew the interior layout when purchasing and hoped it would have enough space for two firearms but it's tight with a Walthers P99 and Ruger LC9. The hinges are bolted to the end of the box with huge self locking nuts which take up space and scratch the firearms - especially those with flat finishes are left with marks. I had to coat them with rubber paint. I'll replace them with lower profile hardware. Oh, and I still have not had a response from Liberty...

Save your money, get a different safe that actually works
So the safe itself is nice and works pretty well once you get the hang of the finger print scanner. I would have given it 4 stars, but it stopped working after 6 months and I had to send it back in . Unfortunately I had to pay the postage (~$20) to get to back to liberty which isn't all that great. I will say that when I called, they were very helpful and responsive. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the customer service was. Took about 2 weeks to repair and send back which is pretty reasonable. Overall, quality is so-so, but the customer service was good. Update 12/13/20 The safe has essentially become unusable. The biometric fingerprint reader never works which defeats the entire purpose of this particular safe..save your money, go get something that is better designed and much more reliable..if you need to get your firearm out quickly in emergency, this safe is not what you want

Very heavy duty!
Very heavy because of the heavy steel used which is what I was looking for . Get the A/C adapter. It opens much quicker that way. I reccomend that each users finger be imprinted at least 3 times. Once I did that it never failed to open. The only negative is as described by another reviewer. The bolts are exposed which can scratch you gun . It's easily fixed with some Liqui-tape or electrical tape.

the biometric scanner works great and the safe is doing its intended job
Would have given five stars, however.....there was a "rattling noise" when first removing the safe from the shipping box. This turned out to be a loose rivet. Unable to find any place where a rivet was missing. Surmised it was dropped during manufacture [but not retrieved]. Also, a "programming pin" was supposed to have been included, but was not. While registering the safe on-line with Liberty, I mentioned the missing programming pin and selected an option requesting a Liberty representative contact me or simply send the programming pin to me. Weeks have passed and no one has contacted me nor sent a programming pin. Needed the safe to be operational right away. Improvised by straightening a paperclip and used it to depress the biometric scanner activation button. A common nail or other thin, rigid instrument would also accomplish this task. In summary, less than stellar quality control during the manufacturing process and inadequate customer service after the sale. To be fair, the biometric scanner works great and the safe is doing its intended job.

fingerprint would not set
This is the second purchase. We bought one from a gun dealer and had to return it and get another one for the fingerprint to work. That replacement works great with the adapter. I can't find the adapter this time and will need to try another vault. Hopefully, the second one will work this time, too.

Get a ten year battery!
This is a great safe. A little more spendy that some others, but it uses your finger prints - takes up to 15 I think, so you can use finger, thumb on both hands, and your family can also add theirs. Quick access in an emergency. No code to remember, no key to fumble with. Speaking of keys...one word of advice: get a 10 year smoke alarm battery. Our regular 9v battery died after about a year, and we DID need the key to open the safe. We noticed it just doing a routine check. That would Not have been a cool thing to "discover" when if we needed quick access in an emergency - which is kinda the whole point of the safe!

Fancy new electronic / biometric lock is not a superior solution for emergency handgun storage. Period.
The biometric fingerprint reader is VERY subject to dust and dirt contamination, we had to cover the lock / reader area with masking tape to make it reliable. It also needs to have you swipe your print across the sensor in a certain way, this is a learned skill which might throw you off in an emergency. The final straw is during this over 19 months time of ownership, it needed a new battery TWICE. Not worth the trouble, especially when there is such a better solution available ( The simplex combination lock ). The simplex is easier to use in the dark, and in an emergency. The simplex doesn't eat batteries to the point I lost confidence I could get the pistol out in an emergency. My wife also had to learn a different finger swipe technique my technique didn't work for her. We BOTH lost confidence this was a good emergency storage solution. I'll put it on eBay.
