***Quick update for the review below. As of March 2021 this still turns over without any issues. It has been a great starter and even better value. I'll be honest, I thought I would have some type of issue by now but it has been rock solid!*** After reading all of the mixed reviews I wanted to add mine to the mix since it seems like there are good ones and bad ones coming from the manufacturer. Out of the box it was very clean, appears well made and machining, fit, etc. was above average (especially for a price of $65). Bolted in/wired up in no time and cranked without issue first try and every after. Have cranked it over 50+ times in the past week and will get a work out this summer with all the starting and stopping while pulling tubes & skis. Will update at the end of the 2019 season and adjust my review accordingly. Hoping this is one of the good ones.

I had a very tough time trying to find out if what the correct starter was for my 2004 Bayline bowrider boat. This starter was in-fact the exact fit. I'm sure my old starter just needed new brushes, but this was a far more rapid and cost effective solution. Boat cranked over immediately on the fist try. I was between 4 and 5 start, just because it did not come with new mounting bolts or new nylon nut for a wire lead. Some others out there do. But not that big a deal.

Brand new, fast shipping, great fit, started at the house, started at the port, went to the flats, had a great day,when ready to head back to the port, roughly 20miles away from shore, had one click and sparks coming out of the starter,though was the batteries since we had the stereo blasting, switched to two battery power, one click more sparks,super dangerous in an inboard carbed boat. I have a 1500a booster alway at the ready just in case, applied it, boom bigger spark one click in the starter no start. Lasted me 4 days installed and 3 attempted starts before it went bad. Good thing I got a return and it was refunded other than that, STAY AWAY FROM IT, NOT QUALITY MADE!!!!. Bought OEM and so far boat starts every time, and yes it was $250, but the say " you get what you paid for" STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! No Bueno

I ordered the SAEJ1171 model that was on my 1997 Wellcraft Excel 175ssx (3.0 4 cylinder), but the body does not bolt on - this model requires 2 long bolts, not 1 short. So, since my original body was ok, I removed the solenoid from this one and installed on my original body, worked as designed. In the future, I'll just purchase a few solenoids to shelf until needed - as I understand, this is a common failure where the solenoid freezes up without warning.

It was an exact fit. The install and value I rate a 5. Longevity I gave a 3 only because it's only been on 2 days? Only time will tell on that. But it fits perfectly and started on the first turn of the key.

Thought it was for a smaller engine at first. But took my calipers and measured all the dimensions, it matches up just the same as the original. I used the original hardware as the new starter didn't come with any, which was ok but the housing of the old starter was .36" bigger so I did have to use a spacer. The old housing was 3.582" and the new starter was 3.222". Started on the first try, my boat has been sitting almost 2 years with old gas, so I was surprised at that. I have a 1990 larson lazer dc200 with a mercruiser 5.7 alpha one and this starter works. Also took me 2 maybe 3 hours to remove old starter, and only 1 hour to install new starter including hooking up all battery cables and wiring as well.

This starter was just what the doctor ordered. Fit my 2008 Mercruiser 3.0 perfectly with only a small modification to get the back mounting bracket on.. I was able to re-use the original bolts and the bracket (which the picture doesn't show) but the bracket did bolt onto the back bolt with a simple tweak. The price was amazing for a quality product, and shipping was fast. Good fit and finish. I don't care if it's not the Mercury OEM, it fits and it works and looks like a very high quality build. Time will tell, but so far I've used the boat 5 times this spring with the new starter, and it cranked right over each time. Who would believe how much money you just saved me from starter replacement at my local marina.

Installed with no issues in a MerCruiser. It's been starting fine for a month. We will find out next year if it lasts. Looks very similar to the original.
