When i recieved the tablets they were a purple colour and after 2 months they have turned orange.. is this normal ?

Well mine are a beige colour and I have have been taking them since Jan 5th 2021 and they are still the same ! This is the second bottle of them I have had and never have I seen them change colour, if I was you I would be sending them back!

Why do they contain vitamin D2 rather than the much less toxic and more potent D3?

D2 is derived from plants and D3 from animals. D2 is vegan friendly.
