Christmas Extraordinaire

This isn't a bad album...but for me, it falls short of what I have come to expect from Mannheim Steamroller's holiday music. I spent some time trying to figure out why I found it rather disappointing. The best I have been able to come up with is that to my ear, the instrumentation, the harmonies, and the counterpoint are more conventional than what is in the earlier collections, such as A Fresh Aire Christmas and Christmas in the Aire. The earlier albums took holiday favorites and somehow made them fresh and new. By comparison, I didn't find anything particularly memorable in Christmas Extraordinaire. I'm not being critical just for the sake of negativity. It's ok as background music...but I found it all too easy to mentally tune it out rather than to actually listen to it.

I love Mannheim Steamroller and this was advertised as a DVD, it's not ! I love the music but there's just one picture that is shown while the music is playing. I was very disappointed. I kept it because of the music.

Probably my favorite Christmas album of all time. There is an angelic chorus in many of the songs which is delightful. Chip Davis has a way with adding or modifying the instrumental music that superbly goes with and enhances the human voice, and this album is a prime example of that. A superb collection.

Delightful! I bought the cd’s for my vehicle during the holidays. They really got me in the Christmas spirit without sounding like the carols playing on the radio.

I have always enjoyed this album during the holidays. Always a great tradition! Not sure why it appears these have gone out of print.

This is one of my favorites of the Manheim Steamroller Christmas albums. When I realized that I had left the CD in my car's CD player when I traded it in I was so sad... Until I found a replacement on Amazon, and for a decent price! My Christmas music collection is complete again! Thanks!

Another really good Manheim Steamroller Christmas CD. Christmas music wouldn't be the same w o their music.

I think that this Christmas Album was one of the best ever. It is great! Especially "Hallelujah - From 'The Messiah'", "Faeries - From 'The Nutcracker'", "Silver Bells", "Fum, Fum, Fum", and "Winter Wonderland". Those were the best songs, but the most best of all I think is "Hallelujah - From 'The Messiah". I listened to this music a lot. It rocked my Christmas.A couple of even the best songs sounded like they were borrowed instrument sounds from a couple of Chip Davis CDs."Hallelujah - From 'The Messiah'" sounded like it had a lot of rhythm borrowed from the song "Chocolate Coffee" based on the Album "Sunday Morning Coffee II", on Track 14."Fum, Fum, Fum" sounded like it had a lot of rhythms borrowed from "Mere Image" based on the Summer Album "Fresh Aire III", on Track 4, with the harpsichord rhythm and the high flute.

A great little CD for the holidays. A bit of a twist on the traditional christmas songs; all the songs have beautiful instrumentation. Some are energetic and others are beautiful melodies in a softer note. I play this one year after year. Never get tired of it.

Da ich bereits Christmas CDs von Mannheim Steamroller besitze, wollte ich unbedingt diese Weihnachts CD auch noch haben. Mir gefallen die modernisierten Versionen der einzelnen Lieder sowohl wie auch die klassischen Stücke, auch Block-Flöten sind zu hören, was mir sehr gut gefällt.CD einwandfrei, Lieferung sehr gut und schnell.

We have enjoyed the music from this group for avery long time.We expected the DVD to be a concert style video. All you have is the image of the tree as you see on the cover, and that's it. Then the various selections of music. B*O*R*I*N*G!!!Yes, you do get the CD along with the DVD. But this package is definitely NOT worth the price.Conclusion: Bitter Disappointment EXTRAORDINAIRE!
