Awesome HiDPI display for a very affordable price
I ordered seven of these and plugged them into a Mac Pro (2013) with a pair of GTX960 graphics cards. I actually ordered enough of these that Amazon assumed I was doing business ordering for IT (laughs). But I can say that I am quite happy with them. The monitors are bright, and the resolution is crisp. I am not a color freak, but the colors look very good to my untrained eye. What I got these for was the HiDPI text rendering, and for that it delivers in spades. I was able to mount these on NavePoint NavePoint Dual Vertical LCD Monitor Mount Stand Free Standing Holds 2 Stacked Screens Up To 24-Inches and NavePoint Triple LCD Monitor Desk Stand/Mount Free Standing Vertical 3 Screens up to 27-Inches Black monitor stands without issue, and ended up with an array of screens to do my programming work on that are both spacious and easy on the eyes. Depending on viewing distance, I recommend running the displays "Scaled" and at 2560x1440 under MacOS [note that MacOS does HiDPI by using a fake "lower" resolution, and smoothing it back up to the native resolution, so this isn't "wasting" the UHD, it's setting how much the UI is scaled. The "best for display" default will do 1920x1080 smoothed out using the extra pixels.]A couple of quibbles:1) the VESA mount is at the very top of the display. This didn't cause me any grief (and I knew about it when I ordered), but it would be annoying if I didn't have a homogenous setup.2) One of the monitors detected as being a 6400x3600 102" display when plugged into the HDMI 2.0 port. I have not played with it enough to know if that is a monitor problem or a MacOS problem, but I am currently running that one at 30Hz on the HDMI 1.4 port because of it. When I have a chance I will try switching cables around to see if it's the monitor (this one happens to be where I put windows to view but not interact with, so 30Hz isn't annoying me).

You Should Probably Buy This
The Origin Story: I'm a mid-twenty-something with computing proclivities including (but not limited to) video editing, music production, PC gaming, Unity/Unreal game development, and media streaming. Despite my compulsion to work from home even when I'm off the clock, I seem to always lean on the 'broke' side. If you fit any of these descriptors, this monitor is absolutely FOR YOU. I purchased one Used-Like New via Amazon Warehouse for $235, and another New at Best Buy for $250 over Black Friday weekend. Now, every time I enter my nerd den at home, I feel as fancy as a posh poodle in pearls. The Pros:- Stellar. Graphics.- Superior. Connectivity.- Sleek. Design.- Simple. Usability. As most other 24-year-old white girls would say, "I can't even right now." It's so great. I play mainly RPG games like The Witcher, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, etc., and this monitor pulls you into those magnificent worlds. The color fidelity and the greyscale seem spectacular, whether on Steam or Netflix. I am not a serious online FPS gamer, so I can't tell you just how perfect this monitor is for attaining otherworldly kill streaks in a high-intensity CS:GO or Overwatch death match, but I can tell you this monitor's refresh rate is a dramatic upgrade from the 2011 Samsung monitor I had been using. The product's design and user-friendliness are very intuitive; I was ready to go after about 10 minutes assembly and set-up. There is a small 'knob' (joystick? fiddlestick? I'm not sure of the technical term) on the back right side that is maneuvered and pressed to go through the various menus. Maybe it's just easy because I took out thousands of dollars of loans to achieve a satisfactory college education. Maybe I'm just projecting. I'm sure it will be easy for you, too, with or without the student loans. The Cons:- Brightness, I guess.- Limited maneuverability, I suppose. It isn't very easy to adjust this monitor; you can't move it vertically up or down, the tilt angles cannot go too extreme. The colors seemed a bit washed out when I first turned it on, which I easily adjusted via the brightness and contrast menus. Honestly, my biggest complaint is that occasionally non-4K images and programs look a bit pixelated, but that is a problem I can live with given the trade-offs.Final Opinion:If you are multitasker who needs the screen space, buy this. If you are gamer anywhere between casual and advanced who wants a more immersive experience, buy this. If you want to impress friends with pictures of your "crazy-cool set-up," buy this. If you are a broke twenty-something who wants a monitor that screams "Does not regularly eat ramen to avoid buying groceries," buy this.

The wonderful world of ultra hi-def. Good luck getting there.
About a year ago, I bought a Lumix GH4 that shoots 4k video. While 4k taking over the world is years away, I wanted a monitor that could handle my files. I also wanted a desktop monitor to replace my aging Mac. I'm an editor - an OLD editor, so if my critiques sound like those of an old guy bringing up the rear of the technological revolution, you'd be correct. First of all - I knew that using an older Mac Pro was going to need some hot-rodding to make it fast enough to handle the files. What I didn't know was how mind-bogglingly confusing the internet was going to be just figuring out what that would entail. In a nutshell - after buying a high performance video card (a domain owned by gamers whose techno-speak made my eyes glaze over,) many more gigs of ram and upgrading to the latest mac operating system, buying this monitor was the easiest, least expensive component of the saga. All that said:The road to "plug and play" didn't end there. First of all - the manual that came in my box is entirely in Asian/Indonesian as were the on-screen settings. I'd gladly have changed the menu to English if I read Korean to find the selection. Which brings up another point - no remote control? Seriously? A $500 appliance & they couldn't toss in a 35 cent remote? To adjust the set, you use a small toggle wheel on the back of the chassis. Welcome to the 20th century. Secondly - setting up the preferences of my computer to accommodate the new monitor (more tons of fun) continued to offer only 30Hz refresh rate at "low resolution" using both HDMI ports. In the info section of the set, there is this: "Enjoy upgraded HDMI support with an upgraded HDMI (v2.0) that supports UHD resolutions at a 60Hz refresh rate." What? Where? How? After reading some of the Q&A in the reviews, it became evident (I think) that the only way to get full 60Hz refresh is by using the "DP" display port input. "Hello Amazon, I need a new cable overnighted to me." If there's a way to make the HDMI outputs jump through a different hoop, I'm all ears. Also - contrary to some reviews, the stand does indeed tilt forward & back. This is fine for me, but actually making it tilt was a bit nerve wracking because you have to exert pressure on what seems to be a solid piece of not all that substantial plastic until it "gives."The good news: now that I have apparently solved the Rubik's Cube riddle of how the thing works - the thing looks fantastic. Amazing what ten times the dots can do for resolution. I finally see how great my photos look, 4k videos on YouTube (which aren't even full 4k) are stunning and even my standard definition video projects absolutely pop. It's also nice to have a brilliant every day computer monitor. So, the Samsung gets 5+ stars for what it does. But I'm (generously) taking off a star because the set, along with all of the other massive headaches that went into graduating to the world of ultra hi-def is a minefield of expensive trial and error inconveniences & frustrations with very little in the way of simple information and instruction available on the web or from manufacturers.

Awesome Monitor - Ensure you use DP cable This monitor ...
TLDR: Awesome Monitor - Ensure you use DP cableThis monitor is by far the best monitor I've ever owned! The picture quality is amazing and it even handles fast action games no problem***. The screen size and picture quality literally makes games feel revamped and new. I set monitor to "Game Mode" or something similar and it crisped up screen a bit more. I am however running a high end set up for my PC and is why I wanted a 4k monitor - i7 6700k quad core processor, 32g ripsaw ram, asus maximus hero alpha MB, 1TB SSD samsung hard drive, with a asus 1080 GTX card and this all together is screaming bliss. The angle problem I saw some folks complaining about made me leary but I can assure you that it does not seem a problem at all for me... I don't know about how other folks use PC's but when I do I'm sitting.. and not walking back and forth to see different angles.. leaning one way or the other in your chair does not affect it at all.. BUT if you take a few steps to one side and then the other, yes, it does change.***The only thing you have to do and is REQUIRED for this monitor to work in all its glory (for no screen tearing when moving fast in a circle or something in a video game) is to use the DP cable and ports. The cord comes with the monitor so no sweat there.I was a day away from returning this monitor while using the HDMI cable as it was still gloriously beautiful but if moved to quickly it would screen tear along the top 1/3 and the bottom 1/3 of screen. However once I heard that DP cables are the champion right now and swapped I am insanely happy with my purchase right now and what a great price.

Poor quality build, bad mac support.
In the 10 years that I have used Amazon, I have only written 2 reviews - but I feel I had to share my experience with this monitor.First, I bought this 12 months ago - the first one that came seemed to have a bad connection/port/display. I tried it on multiple machines, using both the HDMI port and the DisplayPort (both 1.2 and 1.1 protocol) - after troubleshooting with the support team, they had me send it in for repair. Sure -No problem.June 2017 - They replaced a component and sent it back to me.July 2017 - Same problem. I returned the monitor again. Again, they replaced a component and sent it back to me.August 2017 - Same problem again. I yet again sent it back, this time they were going to send a new unit.Sept 2017 - They sent me back the wrong unit (the same monitor with no mounting holes). so I sent it back again.Nov 2017 - They again, sent me the wrong unit! I sent it back yet again.Nov 2017 - Finally, they sent me the right monitor (many months of back and forth). Now, the monitor appeared to not have the issue and all was fine, however about a few weeks later - I started getting connection issues again. Every time I plug my machine in (Macbook Pro) it would flicker a white screen for about 10 min, then start working normally. After some research, It appears that OSX - High Sierra has problems with these 4k monitors over HDMI - but DisplayPort (1.2 and 1.1 protocol) both have issues with this monitor.I finally picked up a Dell 4k monitor with DisplayPort and had a perfect connection every time, leading me to believe this model is flawed - at least with Mac devices.Last, I should also point out if you plan to mount this panel to a swingarm in the vertical position - make sure your swingarm can lock the side to side tight because the mounting plate is at the top of the monitor so when its vertical all the weight is on one side - causing it to slightly tilt. (I am using the Amazon Basic Swing Arm)

Bad viewing angles, Eye Fatigue especially with whites
I've been using this monitor for about 2 years now for both gaming and music production.1. Gaming I have no complaints. Minimal Latency and great picture quality using the PS4 Pro. I play MLB the show a lot, and if you dont know swing timing is so finely tuned that every millisecond counts. Instantly I noticed a much greater percentage of perfectly timed swings on this monitor vs others. Dirt Rally 2.0 also looked great and was always clear.2. For working on Mac... Over 2 years I've tweaked settings, searched forums, changed seated and monitor positions, adjusted lighting, added true white bias lighting, just about everything to ease the eye fatigue I get from the Whites on this monitor. It's hard to explain but it seems as if Whites are always TOO bright no matter the contrast, brightness, or color settings. To make matters worse, as you move windows around the screen there's significant changes in color and brightness making it impossible for my eyes to stay adjusted.I produce music so I'm constantly switching between different views, windows, font sizes, etc. The fact that my eyes have to readjust depending where I'm looking on the monitor makes is so difficult to work.. Like I said, I've tried just about everything and the best solutions I've come up defeat the purpose of even having a 4k monitor. Either increase the distance from the monitor and downscale resolution, Turn down brightness and contrast settings so that you always have a dim screen, Or just avoid whites all together.Maybe I'm an idiot and have all the settings wrong. Maybe there are others who are having the same exact issues as me and got a new monitor instead. Either way, I tried to make it work for this long but I'm finally throwing in the towel on this one and switching out.

An Excellent Investment for the Future.
***Please note that this is the UPGRADED U28-E-590D model, over the identical U28-D-590D model. The main differences is, the HDMI 1 input(the first one, nearest to the DisplayPort input) has been upgraded to HDMI version 2.0(from version 1.4). Also, this new version includes AMD's FREESYNC technology for PC gaming. The older model only includes a GAME mode picture setting, which this newer version also includes.***I was lucky to purchase this during the Prime Day promotion, which discounted this monitor to $300, so at that price, this is my 5-star rating review. Even at $400, I still think it deserves 5 stars. One of the key things you should notice is, this monitor has a TN panel, not an IPS(or PLS) panel. For the most part, the general consensus agrees that TN panels are better for gaming because of decreased input lag, and better color accuracy, while IPS panels offer better black levels and contrast, and viewing angle. To my average, unprofessional, and untrained eyes, I can sense some of those things.I used to have an LG 34 IPS monitor, LG Electronics UM65 34UM65 34-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor, which I bought for $600 almost two years ago. Now, there is a newer version, LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor with FreeSync, for about $450(you can find a deal sometimes for under $400). At that time, the LG by far had the best image quality I have ever seen in any monitor or television. The images seem to literally pop out of the panel, and the black levels and contrast were superb. Overall, I would say that the LG has a little better image quality. But what I love about this Samsung monitor, is its scorching brightness - if you set the brightness to the maximum 100, you might just go blind - it has a brightness level of 370cd/m2. It also has Freesync, which is awesome for gaming if you have a Freesync AMD graphics card. And then finally, it has 4K resolution. You might not think you can tell the difference when you set a resolution this high for a monitor that only has a screen size of 28 inches, and to be honest when I was using the older version of this monitor on a Windows 8 computer, I was not impressed either, as Windows 8 didn't do a good job of scaling like Windows 10 does, so everything looked tiny and really hard to read. But with Windows 10's scaling options in the display settings, you can easily bump up the size of app icons, text, etc., making great use of the 4K resolution. Once you see how crisp and fine text and high resolution elements look in comparison between 4K and 1080p, you will never want to go back.So if you can find this monitor at a great deal as I did, or even at up to $400, I think it is a great investment for the future. With the DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 ports running at 60Hz, you are future-proofed for when you upgrade your computer for the future. This technology should last you at least 5 years into the future. Now, all we have to do is wait another 2-3 years until those 31/32-inch 4K monitors from Samsung and LG drop down into the $500-600 price range....**UPDATE: July 29, 2016 - As I just finished this review, Amazon has them in stock again for $400.****UPDATE: July 29, 2016 - If you want a good IPS alternative, there is this 27" 4K monitor from LG: LG 27UD68-P 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync, and the white version: LG Electronics 4K UHD 27UD68-W 27" Screen LED-Lit Monitor****UPDATE: August 13th, 2016 - As I have had more time with this monitor, I must say the viewing angles are not as good as the LG 31" 4K IPS monitor. If you are not in a magic spot of only a foot, the color shifts are glaring, especially the vertical angles, which add a red hue to the screen. To be honest, with the lowering of prices of 4K monitors, I am now more inclined to advise you that this is only a 5-star product up to $400.**

Everything I wanted it to be. Very pleased.
Carefully researched and ordered for enjoying UHD programming and 4K home videos.I can't really understand the big deal people are making about the stand on this item. If installed properly it is as solid (or better) than any I've had before. I never move my monitor anyway because it is carefully set at my eye-level and the proper distance.I like the easy operation of the joy-stick control on the back... much simpler and easier than the push buttons that always have me grumbling.Very bright, very clear, but not a wide viewing angle at all, which again does not matter to me unless I'm trying to show something to someone else, which seldom happens.I spend at least 10 hours each and every day on this computer and I decided I deserve a good, large screen with good color and brightness. I'm just getting into 4K movies and ultra high quality photography (don't expect me to impress you with knowledge I have yet to obtain) and of course need the best resolution I can afford. This is the one. Half the price it used to be, certainly better quality than my own vision. My setup:Desktop: ASUS M32HD with GTX750Ti graphics, displayport connection to this monitor.Camera: Panasonic Lumix G7HKIt's a happy Christmas for me!UPDATE 12/26/15: I too had the same problem many other buyers had, that letting the computer sleep caused problems. My problem manifested itself by losing the taskbar. I read the complaints here and ABOUT OTHER BRANDS OF MONITORS having the same problem. It seemed to me that the difficulty was with the displayport cable that was included. I ordered a better cable and hooked in my HDMI cable while I wait for it to arrive. Using HDMI 2.0 straight out of the graphics card works just fine for everything I tried and worked fine with my 4K G7 camera... positively stunning. I will let you know what happens with the new displayport cable.INFO 12/30/15: New displayport cable did not fix any issues. I'm not convinced enough to order a really expensive one as suggested. Could be the graphics card causing the problem, but since things work well otherwise, I will just not use the sleep option at all... it has been a habit just because I can quickly press a keyboard button and head off to bed at night. I'll just turn things off instead. The HDMI 2.0 setup worked ok but caused jitter at times on the simple windows frames. No other input at this time... happy new year.Summarized Revisit: Now halfway through 2018 I know that almost all of the battles I had with this monitor and dozens of other things have ALL been caused by flaws in Windows 10 and attempted updates for those. The big updates left me with the biggest problems, some lasting for months until another update suddenly made them go away. Nothing was wrong with the monitor, graphics card upgrade or any cables.

This is the best monitor you can get for a low price
First of all I'd like to say that the picture quality is just beautiful. It is completely crisp, detailed and natural plus the colors are realistic and accurate. With the 1 billion colors the display has a 10-bit bpc meaning everything (especially movies and videos) are more detailed and clear, more natural looking, less noise, and better blacks. Everything is crystal clear and sharp. You can say the quality can be compared to an IPS, OLED or Retina display. Plus the 4K is a treat, once you experience 4K you can never go back. Overall, the picture quality is satisfying for your eyes and is what you would expect on more expensive monitors.Gaming is perfectly smooth. Of course, this monitor will do it's best on AMD cards because of FreeSync. With the 1ms response time and FreeSync enabled, gaming is so satisfying that it feels like you're playing it in double the fps. No tearing, no blurring of image, no delays, no frame drops, just perfectly smooth gaming. But, best of all, this monitor does not strain your eyes because of it being flicker free. Not only that, but it's built eye saver mode (which can me manually turned on in display settings) can be useful at night. Combine it with night light in your OS and it becomes even better. This monitor is the perfect choice for people who want good quality but also want to save their eyes. If you have glasses or contact lenses I highly recommend getting this monitor. It's build quality is premium and strong. Although it's not fully made of metal, it's material is still premium feeling and the monitor looks modern and appealing. The main disadvantages of this monitor is that it's stand is not adjustable. It also doesn't have HDCP 2.2, so you cannot watch 4K content if you connect a console like Xbox. This monitor is highly recommended if you are on a budget, it's worth every dollar it costs.Tips:If you want 4K@60 fps, use DisplayPort or the HDMI2 port, not the HDMI1 port. For the best experience, go to settings as set the display response time to fastest.Make sure to use it in RGB 4:4:4:4 and 10 bpc mode in 4K@60 fps for best quality and smoothness. To get the best out of 4K, use Rec.2020 color profile instead of sRGB, although any color profile will look great.

Sharp, Bright. Excellent monitor that rivals many more expensive ones.
I bought this as an Amazon returned item so it was a little bit cheaper than retail price, if you can live with a few inconspicuous scratches and a banged up box.The monitor picture quality is superbly crisp. Very bright (I have to turn down the brightness to about 50% to use it). Color can be easily calibrated through the extensive built in menu. The buttons take a bit of getting used to, but generally you calibrate your monitor once every several months, then set it and forget it, so that is not a real issue.Plenty of screen real estate for engineering design and photo editing. The sharpness of the image makes it a joy to use.I don't use it for video games so can't comment on latency, but for CAD and general web/productivity use it is a fantastic monitor.I have a 27" Dell P2719Q, and I can tell you that the colors and brightness on this Samsung are better. The Dell's stand, looks and ergonomics are better though.Cons: The stand is quite basic and not fully adjustable, so you may need to buy a separate VESA stand if adjustability is important to you.Overall, highly recommended.

Big improvement over 10 year old monitor
I upgraded from an 10 year old monitor and wow, what a difference in picture quality. In working from home I have two computers plugged into the monitor for work and home use. For work, screen is big enough that I can have two pages side-by-side and no longer need a 2nd monitor. For home, use I can watch movies and process pictures in CaptureOne/Photoshop. As for complaints, switching the monitor between computers can sometimes take a couple tries (minor) and I found the PIP not that useful due to the loss of screen real-estate in some modes or the split screens not that readable in side by side mode due to scaling. Otherwise I would highly recommend this monitor.
