Incredible value and premium feel, but has a bit of feedback
I am incredibly impressed with the Hongdian 1851 Black Forest (Apple Green Ice Flowers). For the price, the value for money is absolutely perfect. It completely outperforms its budget price point and feels like a luxury writing instrument. Design & Build Quality (10/10): The "Ice Flowers" finish is gorgeous and unique, giving the pen a beautiful texture and appearance. The build quality is excellent. It is an all-metal pen, so it has a very substantial, heavy weight to it. For me, the weight is excellent but right "on the limit"—if you prefer a feather-light pen, this might feel a bit heavy for long writing sessions, but I love how important and solid it feels in the hand. Performance & Ink Flow: The functionality has been perfect so far, and the ink flow is consistently good with the included converter. The Fine nib writes well, though it does have a "little rough" feeling right out of the box. It gives you a bit of pencil-like feedback on the paper rather than a buttery-smooth glide. It isn't scratchy or tearing the paper, just a bit rigid, which is typical for a sturdy extra-fine/fine steel nib. Pros: Stunning, unique look and finish Outstanding value for money Solid, premium weight Reliable ink flow and flawless functionality Cons: The metal body makes it heavy (might tire some hands over time) Nib has a bit of feedback/roughness Overall, this is an excellent starter or everyday carry fountain pen that punches way above its weight class. Highly recommended!

Unbelievable value. If you like fountain pens you've got to try one of these!
I love this pen! I have been adding pens to my rotation collection that included low-to-high end Sailor, Waterman, Pelikan and Cross. I also use a beautiful old Parker "45", a Papermate made by Montblanc and even an inexpensive English "Panache" calligraphy pen with multiple nibs. Some of these are terrific and beautiful writers. Some are okay and very functional. But I didn't have any Chinese sourced pens and was curious. I happened to see a YouTube video of someone using the Hong Dian Silver Birch Forest and was really taken by it. I loved its look, but had no idea how it felt to use one, so I ordered up. This pen writes every bit as good as it looks! I bought a Fine nib, along with a batch of Hong Dian's black ink cartridges. I understand that Hong Dian is part of Asvine. That's not a familiar name for me, but if my Silver Birch is any indication of what this company can create and make then I want to see more of what they offer. I have to be honest, I like how my Silver Birch writes much more than my collectible Sailor ProGear Commemorative "Kanreki" which cost hundreds more than most of my other pens. For the price of this pen I think the value is unbelievable! The pen never skips, no hard starts, seems to simply not care what paper I'm writing on and puts down beautiful script! I went into this expecting to be thoroughly disappointed, but I am happy to say my expectations were not met! This is a great pen that writes and functions beautifully. Also, I find this pen comfortable to hold and write with. it's smooth, the line it lays down is tight and controlled and it isn't tiring to use. Even the black Hong Dian ink I ordered looks great on my different papers and dries quickly and without any lack of lubricity or scratchiness. If you haven't got it by now, I really like this pen, a lot!

Exceptional quality for the money
I could offer bona fides, but rather I'll just say that while it might not be a Visconti or Mont Blanc nib, the pen came clean and wrote effortlessly, without cleaning. Many pens, at all price ranges, seem to have issues that require a thorough cleaning out of the box. This pen didn't. The machining is quite nice and it's substantial without being heavy. Honest, if you don't post, the pen is a tad light for my tastes, and posting puts that weight pretty far back. However, the actual work of the pen is remarkable at the price. I do wish the section had some sort of machining to make the grip a little more tacky. Metal sections are always slippery for me and this pen continued that trend. The pen came with a converter, which is a big plus in my book. Sometimes, Chinese manufacturers don't include the converter and you have to guess. Hongdian took my preferred path and included it in the package. The pen also came in a hinged metal case. There's a foam interior to hold the pen. While slightly bulky for a single pen, it offers a good case for travel. Props on the packaging as well. So, what's my niggle? Primarily that the line is heavier than a typical fine, more akin to a fine-medium, if such a thing exists. My comparison here is my Sailor Pro Gear F (yes, I do realize that Japanese nibs are finer at each size). This is a pretty thick line for a fine. HOWEVER, The nib was smooth, with excellent tooth and good ink delivery. Honestly, some of these Chinese fountain pens are approaching the point where spending hundreds for a better writing experience is artifice, at best. My SO, who is not a fountain pen person, tried this pen and really loved it. This is a home run. Why not five stars, then? Because, simply put, a five star item has to change my life. It's a high bar, and it's high for a reason. This is an amazing deal, and it's really a cool design, but it's still just a fountain pen. If it was identical to my beloved Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze (original model) and cost this price? That's five stars.

Amazing Fountain Pen
What an amazing pen! This is only my second fountain pen, I am not an expert on them by any means. One day when I threw away several standard pens that were done, I realized that I throw a ton of these plastic things away. They are probably going to sit in a landfill forever or end up in the ocean and choke a dolphin to death or something. So, I started looking at refillable pens because I couldn't find a better way to recycle or reuse standard pens. I tried a few standard refillable pens, and they were OK, but I wasn't getting the same line results as I was with my higher-end Pilot pens. I bought the Black Forest because the price was excellent and the reviews were incredibly good. The quality and build are fantastic, the weight is really nice and the lines it produces are crisp and concise. The nurling is very comfortable and much softer than it appears. I bought the Asvine Hongdian Fountain Pen Bottled Ink Black (Non-carbon) to use with it, because I am just getting into the world of fountain pens and that ink was inexpensive (I will write a separate review on that, but so far, I love that ink as well). So far, the pen has never dripped or exploded a bunch of ink all over my page. I am honestly shocked with how much I enjoy drawing and writing with this pen. Because it is so much cheaper than other nice fountain pens, I thought it was going to be garbage. Not knowing much about fountain pens, I thought it would be a good first run (my first fountain pen was very inexpensive and disposable. I bought it just to make sure I could actually draw with a fountain pen before I dropped money on a "real" one). Man, I love this thing. Very easy to refill as well! Time will tell how it holds up, but after using this heavily for a few weeks, I have zero complaints or issues with it. I am sure there are many, many nicer fountain pens out there, but I can't imagine you can beat this one for the price (I paid under $20 USD for it in 2026).

Good weight, writes smoothly
I am new to fountain pens, but immediately fell in love the first time I used one. This pen has a comfortable weight without causing fatigue and writes very smoothly. The tip doesn’t flex too much and it doesn’t scratch. The ink flows evenly and doesn’t build up in the tip so there’s no splotching. I haven’t had any leaking ink issues either. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to insert the ink cartridge, (mine didn’t come with one) but the ones the manufacturer says to buy fit perfectly and are reasonably priced. I’m very happy with it and will probably buy more to keep around the house.

Ease of use, amazing quality
I have been obsessed with this pen since I got it, its my third fountain pen and by far the best I've ever had. It writes so smoothly, the nib is beautifully made and no issues of weird metal work you sometimes get, not scratchy at all, and the quality of the casing is phenomenal. It isn't uncomfortable to hold at all and i know it could survive a little tough love with no issues. When I can, I'll be buying more of this specific one. Its ease of use is great from beginners or everyday writers and the ink converter is easy to use and clean although sometimes I do find the spinner on it to need a little more effort than just a simple twist. But thats such a minor issue overall that I wouldn't even complain about it.

A great addition to any regularly used pens you own!
What can I say, this pen is a WORKHORSE! I bought it in 2020 at $16 and it still works to this day. It's full metal design is fantastic. Honestly, probably better than some of the $100+ pens. For the price, it's an absolute steal. Mild issued with ink leaks onto hands and while I love the extra fine writing size, the fine writes better. To be honest, the only reason I'm replacing it (again, six years later for a $16 pen) is the cap is loose and the pen has fallen multiple times. It even bent the nib and I bent it back, cleaned up the ink, and it's still wrote! I've bought a few others for x2-3 the price and none of them really compare to this pen. I'll be honest, I've cleaned it (like really well) about 5 times total. No issues with flow or writability. May dry out a bit after about a week of not being used but I usually lick the tip and it starts flowing again.

Ok pen
It has a nice heft to it and looks good. I haven't used the refillable cartridge yet, just a put a regular cartridge in it. The tip friction is a little annoying - not smooth, but doesn't affect my handwriting too much. What is odd is that I tend to write larger with this pen. It must be a weight and balance thing. I just don't seem to be able to write small with it... but overall, a decent oen fir such a low price. No leaking so far either.

Simplesmente maravilhosa!
A entrega do CORREIOS é sofrível!

Finished are good, it is metal painted, not plastic, and the writing is very nice and fluent, very good for the price, totally recommend.

Great value for money
I had some doubts about this pen since it’s a Chinese brand and there are too many that I don’t know and never heard of, but the product is amazing. The body weights in a way that feels like a high quality pen and the way it flows in the paper is amazing. Highly recommended.

Lovely little pen
Lovely little pen. Write beautifully. After writing digitally for a long time, I bought this pen to motivate my writing on paper again. Couldn't be happier.
