Pete the Cat Saves Christmas: A Christmas Holiday Book for Kids

Bought this for my grandson for St Nick. He really loves Pete the Cat so we just had to get him the Christmas book. This book is easy to read and the illustrations are amazing!

Educational and Entertaining for children

The teacher I bought this for had every one of Pete's adventures but this one. Well, I did not know a happier lady than the teacher that I gave this to. Thank you so much. The children were 5years old and in what we in Australia call, Prep. Their most favourite time was reading books and, they HAD to read about Pete in every session. They sing the songs, they say the repetitive sentences with the teacher and, LOVE Pete the Cat! This is for anyone who loves books and loves that they will give children an enthusiastic, wonderful experience in a story about a character who has lots of different adventures. PLEASE, when you buy this book, buy ALL the adventures of Pete the Cat. I promise you, if you read this with expression and a joy of how the text is presented, you will never read another book to young children a different way again. My friend even took on an accent (American) when she read and made it jazzy in delivery. The children learned how to read with loads of expression because of this lady, she passed on a joy of what books can give them. The repetitiveness of the text taught 5yearolds words they could take into Year One before their time was due. I can only say wonderful things about this book, it is not just a story........

As expected. Great as a holiday gift. Good books with educational content, age-appropriate.

I love all the Pete the Cat books and this one is no different. The writing style always has a great rhythm, the songs are fun and catchy and the artwork is beautiful and fun. I think some of the reviewers are reacting to the fact that this book has a slightly different (although still wonderful) style than the other 3 Pete the Cat books. It is doing a parody on the traditional Christmas story, Pete the Cat style, so it is taking the Pete the Cat magic and putting it into the traditional Christmas story format, with a twist. The writing is still great and you can tell it comes from someone who knows how to tell a story in front of an audience. There is a great, kind of cheesy (as Christmas songs should be), song and as always a sweet story that shows what a great attitude Pete has about... everything. I think this a great twist on the typical Christmas story and as always the writing, the song and artwork are a wonderful combination.

I'm of two minds about this book. Mind one says "hurray! Another Pete book! My children will be so happy!" Mind two says, "Christmas themed? Hmm. I dunno. This is starting to be a bit over-marketed." So, I ordered the book with a bit of trepidation. The trepidation was all mine. My children did not care at all what the book was about other than it was another Eric Litwin book with James Dean's beautiful illustrations of Pete. It came today. My children (both age 4) already love it. My daughter has declared it her favorite of the Pete books thus far (we'll see if she still feels that way in the years to come). My son is in love with all the new illustrations. I'm a bit disappointed that a new video has not yet been released by Harper Collins to accompany the book as that has been a major part of their love for previous Pete books. Perhaps there will be one closer to the actual Christmas season. This is important as all Pete books have had songs that you sing parts of the books to. Without the video, it's hard to know how to sing the song. These sung words are really an integral part of children's love for the books. With no sing-along part, the books are still beautiful, but not the amazing experience they can be. So there's that, aside from that, it's a sweet book. The basic plot is what you would expect from a "xxx saves Christmas" story. Pete replaces a sick Santa on Christmas Eve and gets the job done. The central aspect of this story is that Christmas is for giving, and that you give your all no matter how small you are. All Pete books have a moral, this one feels a bit unfinished and hurried to me (my children do not agree). What does not feel the least bit unfinished or hurried are James Dean's beautiful Pete illustrations. As usual they are absolutely lush, fun, imaginative and evocative. Generally Litwin's amazing ability to inspire and create music that touches children combined with James Dean's painting prowess combine to create a full experience unlike other books for young children. If Harper Collins gets behind this book and Litwin creates a video with song to go with it, it will be as big a hit as the previous three Pete books. Until they do that, I would hold off on getting Pete the Cat Saves Christmas unless you have diehard Pete lovers in your home as we do. If you're really looking to further explore the vein I would instead recommend The Big Silly With Mr.Eric , one of Litwin's music releases.

As a retired elementary teacher, mom, g-ma, aunt, and great aunt I say, “PLEASE introduce your young ones to Pete the Cat books”. This likable character, Pete, meets challenges and questions in life and in his own way takes on those challenges and find answers to those questions. This world could possibly be a better place if everyone read and knew the wisdom of Pete the Cat.☺️ Seriously, I am a Pete the Cat fan. I paired this book with a stuffed Pete the Cat toy for a young one and both the book and stuffed toy were a hit this past Christmas.

Super cute, as usual with Pete the Cat. Good rhymes, good pacing (even for my ADHD fidgeting-all-the-time kiddo), and a somewhat unexpected bit of fun to the happy ending.

Such an awesome Christmas one for Pete the cat fans! And bonus if you go to the site to see the little video they have animating parts of the book! A HUGE holiday season reading treat!
