Excellent vacuum, but buy a better battery right away
I purchased the used version of this vacuum which Amazon termed used - very good. It was indistinguishable from brand new except that it was not in the original packaging. This is an excellent vacuum cleaner in all respects. It picks up all kinds of dirt, cat litter and even pine needles on the floor. It comes with attachments suitable for picking up pet hair on furniture, as well as a crevice tool with it built-in brush which is very handy. Let me give you a few tips. People sometimes complain about battery life. Shame on Black+Decker for their bogus battery life claims. Their claims are based on running the vacuum at low speed and also without the floor attachment. Who would do that? They're out of their minds. The low setting is a gimmick. For a reasonable amount of suction, you must use the high setting. Obviously you also want to use the floor attachment. My suggestion is to purchase a 7 amp hour Black+ Decker battery and take the 2 ampere hour battery they give you and find some other use for it such as in a electric drill or something. Compatible batteries are available from Amazon at a very low price. With a 7 ampere hour battery you can do the whole house instead of maybe one room or two. The second suggestion has to do with the dust canister. When you remove it from the vacuum to empty it pull out the center part so you can shake the dust off of it completely. Just opening the little door does not empty it. When putting it back, align the three stripes on the part you removed with the notch on the outer canister. Otherwise it will not fit. One more tip. While you have the center part out, they suggest rotating the large knob to get rid of dust trapped in the pleated filter. Nonsense. Pull that knob completely out of the canister. The pleated filter will come with it. Now go outdoors somewhere and tap it against something flat. This will remove all of the dust from the pleated filter and give you more suction next time you use it.

Excellent Performance from a Cordless Vac
My wife and I have a real problem with the current generation of vacuums. While bagless vacuums have become the "thing" we have always preferred those that required bags. It has just seemed for years now that the performance of bagless vacs just could not match traditional models. But the traditional models are just about extinct. We went through several full sized bagless vacs before we found one that could actually handle the hair from our Golden Retriever and Sheltie (the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Lift Off Bagless Upright Vacuum, which I've also reviewed). But I wanted to add a cordless stick vac to our arsenal that I could use in places such as the workshop in our old barn where electric supply is hard to come by. Persuaded by some good reviews and the fact that it takes the same battery as other B&D tools I own I decided to try this one. It turns out to be great. Great run time, plenty of power and thoroughly satisfying performance. I love that if I do need to use it beyond the capacity of its battery I can just swap it out for the battery from my B&D drill and keep on going. Yes, it is frustrating that the dust canister only holds 750 ml - but consider that this is almost twice as much volume as a Dyson that will set you back three times the price - or more! Contrary to the reports of several reviewers I have not had a single problem with the dust canister falling off or getting knocked off. And it's very easy to empty and clean. When the filter gets too dusty I just take the top of the canister out to the front porch, bang it on the steps a few times and a vast majority of the dust trapped in the filter falls right out. I was also surprised that it handles pet hair at least as well as the Bissell I mentioned earlier. And the design of the brush roller makes it a piece of cake to clear anything that gets wound around the roller. As a matter of fact, the entire thing is incredibly easy to clean and maintain. One day early on I was vacuuming away on the carpet and not yet used to the limited capacity of the dust canister. After a while it seemed like the vac was humming merrily along but wasn't picking things up very well. I stopped to investigate and discovered that not only had the canister filled up, but it kept on sucking away, filling the entire shaft clear down the the intake port...and still churning its little heart out trying to pick up more. Worried that I'd have to spend the next hour disassembling everything to get up and running again, I soon found that the process was unbelievably easy - no tools necessary other than a stick to push the accumulation out of the shaft once I disconnected it - and I was back up and running in minutes. Outstanding! Once upon a time B&D made some reasonably decent tools. Then - for years - the quality of their products (in my opinion) got progressively worse and worse. But in the last several years I believe they have come out with a general line of tools that now rival the best names out there. This stick vac continues that revival and I believe this was an excellent purchase - and on the first try, no less!

Replaceable battery
I bought this to replace another stick vacuum with a built in battery. Did not come out. After a year it started losing power quickly and eventually stopped charging. This Black and Decker uses the same battery my other products do such as the hedge trimmer and weed eater so I go out to the garage and put on another fully charged. It works for hours. Super good suction and they developed a brush that does not collect hair so no need to take it apart to clean it out. However, when you do want to use just the wand without the brush head to get corners and crevices it is extremely hard to remove. As is the stick from the motor portion. I can't believe in testing they didn't find another, easier way, to get the pieces off because I like that about stick vacuums. I want to use only the wand all the time, but this is a major deal to get them apart. The other reason to drop a star is the collection tube is small. It pops off easily and you can vacuum for as long as you have charged batteries but are always having to dump it out. Plus it is all plastic so carefully insert the top portion first then line up the hooks at the bottom. My husband has to bring it to me if he is vacuuming because he's afraid to break it. Good part is they put a turning mechanism on the filter to clean it from accumulated dirt. Overall I really like this vacuum and it was less expensive than the other brands with removable batteries.

I Love This Vacuum!
I researched this vacuum heavily before purchasing it. I was drawn to it because I already have a bunch of Black & Decker batteries and my first cordless vacuum was useless because of the internal battery having a short life. I figured with this one having removable batteries I could vacuum until the cows came home if I so desired... and I was right. I'd also like to point out that if the battery dies completely you can just buy a new battery rather than a whole new vacuum. Because I am not fighting with a cord I vacuum every single day now. Maybe some of you do that anyway but I HATE fighting with the cord so before this vacuum I would be lucky to vacuum once a week and I have 4 furry friends so it wasn't a good situation. The pros: - The suction on carpet is amazing. As others have said it may be too strong so I don't use the highest setting with the floorhead attached. It is actually better than my corded big name brand vacuum. (And I do love that name brand vacuum I just hate its cord & price tag.) - I have a small house so I can do my whole house on one charge with the 2AH batter that is included. - It does stand on its own on a flat surface. It does feel more stable on carpet though. - You can charge it multiple ways. You can mount the charging base to the wall and put the vacuum on it, or just the battery. Additionally you can pull the charger out of the base (or if you have other B+D products you may have one out already) that you can use on the vacuum or pull the battery off and put it on the charger. - Because its cordless it so much easier to pull it out really quick to just do a small area or mess. - Some may see this as a con but I don't: it will not pick up large items on the floor like cheerios or marbles because the floorhead is so close to the floor. This works out better for me because I can just push the cat toys out of my way without sucking them up on accident. Cons: - I don't like the canister. It is easy enough to remove & replace but the design makes it difficult to empty the hair completely without sticking your hand up in it. Considering this is the pet model they should have taken that into consideration when designing it. - I am hoping this will get easier with age but the sections are difficult to remove. I remove the floor head but use the wand to get into corners but it doesn't want to come off easily. I have to set it down and use two hands to yank it off whereas with my old vacuum I could easily hold the top with one hand and use the other hand to pop off the floorhead while standing and go. - It doesn't like cat litter. It sticks to the bristles in the floorhead and then the moment the suction turns off it will drop back onto the floor. So I make it a habit to hold the floor head over the garbage before turning it off & shake it a little after. Seems to do the trick. Opinion based Cons: - The lights on the floorhead turn off if you turn off the floorhead. I only need the lights in areas that have hardwood so I really would prefer if they had separate on/off buttons. - There is no light for using attachments. Please Black+Decker, give us the option to buy a flashlight that will mount onto the attachment holder! - Did it really need to be purple, Black+Decker? Maybe it's just me but I would like my Black+Decker tools to be ... I don't know... black? It would be great if it matched my black & orange batteries. Again, I love this vacuum and I would highly recommend anyone buying it.

Horrible
I would like to give zero stars. I got this vacuum and expected it to be great..based on the star ratings it has. Unfortunately, this vacuum is horrible and I am warning you to NOT get it. First off, the battery life is the absolute worst. You get about 20 mins and it takes more than an hour of charging to get a full 20 minutes out it. It's suction power isn't great and it gets clogged easily. You have to clean the filter often and the spinning brush as well. I had contacted customer service for a replacement due to the vacuum no longer spinning where the debris is held. They sent me out a new one and shortly after I had even more problems woth the replacement one. I had to contact them again and wanted a refund. They denied me a refund and said I could choose any one of their vacuums of my liking. I looked through all the vacuums and none of them were up to par for my expectations. I also seen on the black and decker website that ALL of the vacuums had 3 stars or less which was a big red flag and another reason why I did not want one the vacuums. They asked me to send in the replacement vacuum and so I did.. in order for them to find a solution for me. Then after I sent it back to them they told me it could take up to TWO weeks for them to evaluate the problem with said vacuum. The customer service is no help and so is the supervisor. They do not care about their customers. I did not want another replacement because the black and decker vacuums are not worth my money or time. Now I have an inconvenience of having no vacuum and waisting my time and money on this company. I highly recommend no one to purchase any of the vacuums, especially this exact one.

4 years and still going strong
I had this vacuum for 4 years now and I love it. I've been living in a camper for the last 4 years, so it's worked perfect for me. It doesn't take up a lot of room and stores nicely in my pantry so that was a big win. I don't have a huge area to vacuum so the battery life isn't a big issue. I have the charger mounted on the wall and hang it up after each use so I never have a dead battery. But what I love the most is if I needed more battery, all I have to do is put a freshly charged one on it. That was the main reason I purchased this vacuum, my previous stick vacuum was always dying before I would get done (back when I had a much larger home) and I hate waiting on it to charge. I don't have carpet but I do have 4 rugs. If I've just emptied the canister and cleaned the filter it will "eat" my rugs even on low because the suction is strong. You have to be careful around the corners of the rugs, but it does vacuum them very well. I find the suction to be phenomenal especially right after cleaning the filter. I ordered a pack of replacement filters a couple of years ago and I still have some new ones. When one gets really dirty or starts smelling like a dog I wash it in Lysol water and pop in a clean one and let the wet one dry out really well. The whole vacuum is very easy to clean which I appreciate. Probably my only complaint about this vacuum is when you take it apart to use as a handheld vacuum the attachment isn't long enough to get into some of my nooks and crannies, so for that I just use a shop vac. I havent had any issues at all with this vacuum and I use it at least once daily to vacuum all my floors and rugs. I have one large dog and 2 cats who are in and out all day, plus a teenage son, so there is plenty to vacuum every evening. When this vacuum eventually gives up the ghost I'll probably replace it with a HEPA vacuum because I just learned my dog has a dust mite allergy, but if not for that I'd be getting another one of these!

Good for smooth floors or a quick surface clean on carpets. Not a replacement for a real vacuum.
First, I strongly recommend a second battery. I Use the LB2x4020 20V 5.0Ah 100Wh. It's great for this vacuum and also powers my Black-and-Decker drill and other 20vMax tools. The included battery is small, doesn't last long, and you're done when the battery dies. A second battery gets you more time at a higher power, which you're going to need. Power: This vacuum has three power levels I'll call Low, Med, Hi. The low power setting uses the least battery but is almost useless. It'll pick up very light material on a smooth surface if it's directly below the suction area. You know when you're using a standard corded vacuum and you get close to something on the floor and the vacuum pulls it in and sucks it up? Or when there's a tuft of hair against a wall and you can push the vacuum against the wall to pull it in? Or when you're vacuuming on a textured floor or floor mat that has crevices about 1/4 inch deep and the vacuum pulls the dirt up and out of the crevices? This vacuum won't do any of that. It's low suction even at the highest setting. For smooth floors, or very low pile mats and throw rugs on hard floors, you'll more often be using the med power. It does a better at pulling loose dirt and hair from the full width of the floor brush head (though still nothing from outside of that direct coverage). For very low pile carpet or medium pile floor mats directly on a hard surface, you'll need the high power setting. This is a great reason to have a larger and/or second battery like the one I mentioned above. It does a good job pulling surface hair and dirt. For furniture with pet hair, this works pretty well. The center tube can be removed, placing the floor head on the shorter upper vacuum so that you have a functional hand-held vac with a good rubber brush head to pull hairs. Again, not great for crevices or corners where arms meet cushions because there's not enough suction, but the included accessories do an okay (not great) job there. For smooth floors like tile or hard wood, this is great, especially with a second battery. For regular carpet, this is great for a quick, guests-are-coming, surface clean. It will NOT replace a regular vacuum for a deep vacuum clean. Mostly I use this for regular touch ups on the Ruggables floor mats, Purgo floors where the dogs track in dirt daily. Also good for quick surface cleaning on stairs and standard carpeting. Oh, and the dirt container fills up FAST if you have any pets. It's not bad but remember to check and empty after every room to maximize the moderate suction it has. I don't regret the purchase. I do love being able to grab and quickly clean without messing with cords. I'm a little disappointed in the suction given the reviews I read before purchasing.

Great vacuum, uses my B&D Batteries
Great vacuum. Very handy for quick pickups. Uses same batteries as my drill, yard blower, hedge trimmer, reciprocating saw, and light duty pressure washer. Better charger than for all other products. Hangs on wall for easy access. Well balanced and easy to handle. Canister on top to lay flat on floor. A big pluse.

Well thought out and works great!
I researched cordless vacs on Consumer Reports and while none were actually recommended, this one got a very good rating when compared to the higher priced Dyson and Shark models. When it came in, I was extremely pleased by the ease of assembly. Everything snaps together securely and comes apart just as easily to use the other attachments. The dirt cup was what really impressed me. It's so easy to remove, take apart and reassemble. When disassembled, there a dial that you can turn to remove excess dust from the filter. Said filter can also be washed and reused after being left to dry. Replacements are available if required. I primarily use this on a bare floor which was why I decided on a cordless model in the first place. I see many people complaining that these vacuums, in general, will not clean their deep carpets. Well, that's not what they were designed for. Do your research and establish your needs before buying. This unit, on high suction, stuck itself to the bare floor. Plenty of suction on low power to pick up dust and debris. I tried the beater bar and found it wasn't really necessary on bare floors. When I did try it, I found I had to go slowly or it would kick some dirt forward. I have a small, ridged area carpet which I cleaned using the beater bar and high suction setting. It was in the basement and covered with sawdust. Again, I was very impressed. It cleaned it very well. The only negative, according to Consumer Reports, was in the edge cleaning. Well I decided to test that before I wrote this and I had no issues picking up dirt when I ran the unit parallel to the wall. I just looked up replacement batteries. The Black and Decker brand, at the time of writing, is about 80 dollars. There are aftermarket ones for about half that price although there might be differences in durability. I probably won't have the opportunity to see how long the battery lasts before needing a recharge as the area I clean doesn't take that long. I thing it's advertised as 20 minutes. I turn it on and off as required when I use it. I didn't install the wall mount but I find that it stands on it's own very well and with the handle locked in the upright position, it has no tendency to want to fall over on it's own. I have no hesitation recommending this particular unit. I did, however, buy the insurance from Assurion, because....well, you never know. It was reasonable and about 35 dollars for 3 years after the manufacturer warranty expires. Happy cleaning!!

Seems to have good power
Just received this today and have started vacuuming! I have another B&D product with same batteries so am able to charge multiple batteries to have at the ready - which is a huge bonus. I highly suggest having at least 2 batteries. I have found the highest speed to be best, so far, as I have lots of dirt and dog/cat hair. You have to change the canister frequently due to pet hair, but I'm impressed so far that the vacuum is actually picking it up off my laminate floors and not blowing it around. Also, it is pulling hair off the carpet quite nicely. Wish it was lighter as it is a bit top-heavy. Easy to assemble, and easy to change from stick vacuum to hand-held. Like most rechargeables, it does lose power as the battery runs down. I have a two-floor home so will need at least 3 batteries to do the job well. Battery does not come fully charged. High speed also has lights which is a nice feature especially with dark floors. Hoping it will last as it's so much easier than a corded upright vacuum. Not sure how it would fare against a Dyson, but so far I'm quite happy with what it does for the price.

Excelente aspiradora
