Shady subscription service model
Update: Skytrak has since reinstated their original subscription model. The launch monitor is good, works for the price point it's sold. Perfect it is not but good enough that you can play/practice indoors. However be aware, their service is a subscription based model if you want to actually play any sort of simulation software. Recently Skygolf decided to hike their base subscription by 100%, without any warnings to any of their customers. All comments regarding this tactic was immediately deleted from their Facebook page. Customer support is non-existent.

Didn't live up to the hype
Let me start by saying that I really wanted to like this monitor. I researched it for 3 months and read as much as i could on it. I built a great screen in my garage and was all set. I ended up buying it directly from SkyTrak on the fathers day special back in June. I had already bought a short throw projector and I was ready to go. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to get it set up. I had watched many of the set up videos so i feel like I knew what to expect. Even with that, it was still a struggle. You have to turn off your wifi and then connect directly to the skytrak unit. That part is easy bu then if you want to run the WGT that I also purchased you have to turn back on the wifi and launch the WGT app. This always took forever to get started. Between the inability to pick up the wifi, to the logging in it always seemed to take about 20 minutes. If the unit worked as i expected, I would have been able to look beyond that. Problem is once it got going, the unit just didn't deliver. For some reason the yardages and ball flight was always off. I know my game fairly well and have a swing speed of about 100mph and hit about a 150 yard 8 iron. I've had my swing on the trackman and I also have the Sport Sensors swing speed analyzer so I'm pretty sure where it falls. Problem is on the SkyTrak my 8 iron flies about 120 yards and a good drive about 190 or so. And I fade or slice everything when in reality I play a draw. I tried everything. I made sure the unit was even with the mat surface and was aligned properly and even took it outside to make sure I wasn't crazy. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the yardages to be accurate and I couldn't seem to live with seeing my great drives go 200 yards. It made me swing harder and wasn't helping my game. That and I thought if the swing speed metrics were this far off, could i trust the other numbers? The graphics are great and playing the courses is fun, even if the yardages are so far off. One thing i would recommend is fixing the short game. Most chips don't get recognized and when you hit them hard enough to get picked up, they go over the green. This can get a little frustrating so I wish they made an auto chip mode like they do for putting, it would make things much easier. In the end, I just didn't use it near as much as i thought I would. The combination of being difficult to get online and the inaccurate results left me little motivation to regularly use the unit. And this from a die-hard golfer who plays all the time. If I had 15-20 minutes, I would just hit balls into the cool screen I built because I didn't want to struggle getting it online and then be disappointed to see my 120 yard 8 iron. In the end I sold it and will wait until a better product comes out. For now I have a great screen to watch movies and a cool net to hit balls into.

Works pretty damn well
Works pretty damn well! Sometimes it doesn't register the shot, but that's ok. Should be able to replicate that perfect swing more than once! I suggest buying the protective case as this device seems to be a magnet to the ball coming back from the net. Also I've toed the ball a couple times and sent it straight into the thing, but the case kept it alive.

Launch monitor
Its a great price but was not accurate and had a ton of missed shots. I ended up sending back. Company did refund me so they did the right thing. Maybe I had a bad one not sure if they all work in this manner. It just did not work for me.

Great start to a home range
I’ve been fairly impressed with my unit so far. I get maybe 1/75 as a misread, the direction and spin match my on course ball flight no connection problems with an old computer at all, and initial setup is super easy. The only problem I’m having are distances from the monitor to the course. The monitor is consistent with what its reading, just not accurate to what I see on the course. I play at just above sea level in florida with about 90-95 degree weather. If i plug this in to the algorithm the stats are about 20 yards off, even with an eight iron.

Does What it Says
This is an awesome product.I did a lot of research prior to purchasing the SkyTrak, and am glad I decided to go with it. I have it setup in my garage with the Net Return Pro Series and their 6' x 10' hitting mat. I utilize my wifi network at home for the iPad and SkyTrak, although I have tested it out on what is called "Direct Connection", and it works fine.I have had a few issues, but at least one of them was my fault. I was having trouble one night with it not projecting the laser for my golf ball, but after researching the three light communication system I realized it was due to the SkyTrak not being perfectly level. Now when it does that, I know just to adjust it until it's in a spot it likes.Another issue I have been having recently is the SkyTrak app abruptly closing while I'm trying to use it. I honestly don't know if this is due to the SkyTrak, or my iPad (I have a brand 2017 iPad, by the way). Since I'm not sure what the cause of this has been, I'll be hesitant in blaming the SkyTrak unit. Whatever the cause, I was able to remedy the problem by deleting the SkyTrak app from my iPad, then reinstalling it. Why this worked, I have no idea, but I have used the setup multiple times since the issue with no further problems. In terms of the SkyTrak's ability to accurately track your golf shots, I think it does a great job. When I mishit, it tracks it exactly as I would have expected. The distances, club speed, ball speed, ball apex, and overall flight do seem to mimic my game, so to the best of my knowledge it is accurately reading my shots. If you are considering this unit, you need to understand it does not come with anything at the base price other than the driving range. If you want any of the challenges software, or shot history perks you will need to subscribe to their "improvement package", which I believe is around $100 per year. If you want actual golf courses, they have several software packages that range from yearly subscription amounts, to their package called The Golf Club, which you can outright buy for around $900. I haven't made my mind up on any of these additional purchases, as the main reason for my purchase was to have the driving range and be able to practice at home.Overall, I think this product does what it says it will do. I have really enjoyed being able to go out to my garage and hit 40-60 golf balls whenever I feel like it, and I know it will be a great benefit in improving my golf game.
