Does the board slot into the box to form a lid? Or is it open?

The lid sits in the top of the box when not in use.it does not fasten, so if it tipped the contents would fall out.

Is this suitable for a two year old?

With supervision as the pieces are only small and therefore will also need help identifying some of the parts. The box is smaller than I thought it would be and the white board is small for a 2year old to draw on as they tend to scribble all over the place at that age.
